Was not really rooting for either team, but I did want to see a game 5. Can't believe how predictably bad the Giants were in the 9th though, after 8 incredible innings by Moore.

They are who we thought they were

Ouch.

Managing the pitching/bullpen has been one of the Bochy/Righetti's forte, so much that they were confident about trading for Moore and paying good money to Samardzija. I don't know what they could have done to prevent his implosion, it does seem like since the end of August they have tried everything, I'm sure they'll have the ressources to fix this. They still have a lot of very good elements, and they gave us great moments this season.

Rooting for the Nats now, because you know.

Also the Cubs are really really good, jesus.

i know anything can happen in 7 games blah blah but it's really hard to imagine the nats beating this team

dodgers maybe

Giants are pretty much death by a thousand cuts and this stadium with the pitching kinda neutralizes big power teams in a short series.

lol

slept from the 6th inning on here, of course

Even Year: Bullshit!

go Cubs go, at least through the LCS

@SamMillerBB Oct 10

Another manager wishing he'd brought in Zach Britton

I went to bed early with a headache last night so this was a pleasant surprise when I woke up. Watching the ninth inning now, I'd blame the SF defense before their relievers. There were a lot of ground balls past diving infielders, plus the botched double play.

Baez was obviously the MVP for this series

"Bochy is walking out to the mound. Still walking. He just walked past it? Now he's climbing the arcade. He's... yes, he's in the Bay now."

can't imagine watching that as a Giants fan. brutal. in obvious hindsight, felt like you needed to leave one of those relievers in there. Like they would each throw 3 balls right away... needed to settle in a bit. props to the cubbies who I will hate all postseason & until i perish from the earth.

bnw, Wednesday, 12 October 2016 17:13 (seven years ago) link

i would have left law in but whatever

Spottie, Wednesday, 12 October 2016 17:16 (seven years ago) link

Should have put Cueto in for an inning, ha.

Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 12 October 2016 17:17 (seven years ago) link

I was kind of looking forward to a game 5 and the Cueto/Bumgarner two-headed monster taking on the Cubs (obv. MadBum was coming in to save that if they had a lead).

Really only Zobrist's ball was hit hard in that inning, so yeah, maybe Bochy should have left one of his guys in to get settled.

This bit from Schoenfield's column really blew my mind:

We've never seen this happen before -- at least not in the postseason. Only three times in playoff history had a team rallied from a three-run deficit in the ninth inning, and all three of those games, amazingly, were in 1986. Those teams (the Angels in Game 4 of the ALCS, the Red Sox in Game 5 of the ALCS and the Mets over the Astros in Game 6 of the NLCS) all needed extra innings to pull off a win.

this would hurt so much worse for me if i hadn't just gone through the NBA finals
