forgot parsons is now on the grizz. i keep waiting for them to blow it up. i guess they did fight really hard in the first round last year while missing a bunch of dudes.

brimstead, Wednesday, 12 October 2016 19:53 (seven years ago) link

grizz def should have blown it up after last year. they can still be like the 5 seed but what does it even matter

ciderpress, Wednesday, 12 October 2016 19:59 (seven years ago) link

hard to blow it up when u have an injured player on the first year of a max deal

lag∞n, Wednesday, 12 October 2016 20:05 (seven years ago) link

i don't think they should have blown it up but giving chandler parson's knees a max deal could end up being very bad

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 12 October 2016 20:06 (seven years ago) link

aldo giving conley the biggest contract in nba history

Spottie, Wednesday, 12 October 2016 20:11 (seven years ago) link

some dubious contract on that team for sure

lag∞n, Wednesday, 12 October 2016 20:27 (seven years ago) link

I can't wait for the first Hawks/Celtics game. The over/under should be like 125. Both teams should be ridic on D

Heez, Wednesday, 12 October 2016 20:58 (seven years ago) link

they also downgraded their coach idk how big a factor that is

lol

if by some miracle the grizz are healthy it's a great starting 5 imo

brimstead, Thursday, 13 October 2016 01:25 (seven years ago) link

he's 35 and i know my wheels fell off in the last year

Clay, Thursday, 13 October 2016 01:50 (seven years ago) link

he'll come off the bench right

micah, Thursday, 13 October 2016 03:27 (seven years ago) link

Reading through that Kennedy story and that place where the karaoke bar is right down the street from me! lol i think i know which subdivision he's in. i gotta hunt him down and shake his hand. might catch him at the fish fry. good story.

Suns came back from 30 down last night to beat the jazz on a dunk by goodwin

the bledsoe/knight/booker/warren/len lineup has been fun to watch

Spottie, Thursday, 13 October 2016 16:26 (seven years ago) link

i just have this premonition now that lin is going to drop 30 on the celtics in the season opener

i can actually see that happening and the nets still losing by at least 8 points

Cle
Tor
Ind
Bos
Atl
NY
Det
Chi

I think Charlotte barely misses, they lost some depth and marvin williams / nic batum were on contract years last year so i think they regress

agree w/ most of the teams in that list altho in slightly diff order: CLE/BOS/TOR/IND/ATL/DET/CHA/CHI

i think clifford's coaching intellect will make enough lemonade out of certain lemons (like hibbert) to keep them right at the threshold

NYK would make the offs, all things being equal, over chicago - but i'd bet on butler/rondo/wade staying healthier than rose/noah

disappointed in all these non-believers of the orlando magic theory

ciderpress, Thursday, 13 October 2016 17:35 (seven years ago) link

think they'll be more competitive but they have some major issues w that roster. really deep at the 4/5 with four guys that could start. they are talking about moving gordon to the 3 but that's not ideal.

elfrid, fournier, gordon, ibaka, vooch is an interesting starting 5 but that bench looks thin on paper

Spottie, Thursday, 13 October 2016 17:43 (seven years ago) link

the bledsoe/knight/booker/warren/len lineup has been fun to watch

I bought a ticket to the one game the Bulls come to Phoenix this season and I'm more excited to see Suns than my Bulls. Trying to decide if I want to buy Knicks/Suns tix too. They're cheap!

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 13 October 2016 17:45 (seven years ago) link

nice, i want to buy tix to the knix game too. i went in on some season tix with some friends and got 8 games. i won the first pick (warriors obv), some other highlights include both yungwolves games, okc and the pacers. missed out on cavs and knicks. kinda pumped for 2016-17 suns for sure, should be a fun team.

Spottie, Thursday, 13 October 2016 17:51 (seven years ago) link

hopefully PHX crowd will improve too. kinda cool to be able to take over their arena w/fellow Bulls fans but depressing in the long run.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 13 October 2016 17:58 (seven years ago) link

i need to get some tickets this year but im worried its gonna be impossible

marcos, Thursday, 13 October 2016 18:00 (seven years ago) link

yeah i think the booker hype train is gaining some steam. i am p embarrassed as a warriors fan at the suns/dubs games here now. used to just be like 40 of us spread out giving polite nods of respect to each-other, now its a home game. xp

Spottie, Thursday, 13 October 2016 18:03 (seven years ago) link

i still havent seen lebro in person so i might try and get into that one anyway.

Spottie, Thursday, 13 October 2016 18:03 (seven years ago) link

to boo him obv

Spottie, Thursday, 13 October 2016 18:04 (seven years ago) link

i've seen all the active Great Players live except the ones on the dubs but the dubs-celtics home game is really soon and i suspect tix will be not worth the pain to get

ciderpress, Thursday, 13 October 2016 18:15 (seven years ago) link

we should do an official predictions thread but i think the bulls will be a borderline disaster

J0rdan S., Thursday, 13 October 2016 18:27 (seven years ago) link

i'm not sure the bulls have much to look forward to on either end of the ball. notable offensive issues aside, their defense will depend a lot on how engaged wade/butler are (because rondo has proven that his solid defense days are behind him). it is hard to conceive of an outcome for the bulls that isn't a total shitshow

geometry-stabilized craft (art), Thursday, 13 October 2016 18:34 (seven years ago) link

i mean they have a lot of like solid vets or w/e but I'm just not seeing how the pieces will fit together?

Spottie, Thursday, 13 October 2016 18:37 (seven years ago) link

mcbuckets may have to play 40 minutes a game to help warp the defense a bit

Spottie, Thursday, 13 October 2016 18:37 (seven years ago) link

they will be in bottom 5 for 3pters and you just won't win many games in today's nba if that happens. not unless you are utterly dominant in at least a couple other areas and they aren't even close to that.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 13 October 2016 18:50 (seven years ago) link

bulls will the the rockets of the East imo, maybe the 8th seed. maybe.

nomar, Thursday, 13 October 2016 18:52 (seven years ago) link

rockets will be quite a bit better than the bulls

ciderpress, Thursday, 13 October 2016 18:55 (seven years ago) link

on offense, certainly, but on the defensive end it's going to be bad for houston

geometry-stabilized craft (art), Thursday, 13 October 2016 18:59 (seven years ago) link

i'm actually kind of excited to see houston's offense this yr, if harden gets dialed in this could be a fun team to watch

geometry-stabilized craft (art), Thursday, 13 October 2016 19:01 (seven years ago) link

bulls will be boring as usual but probably less so with wade. nowhere near as fun in a shitshow way as the '15-'16 rockets.

nomar, Thursday, 13 October 2016 19:05 (seven years ago) link

yeah obvs feel like houston has a lot of variance with a new coach/new players/injury history but i think their ceilings pretty high particularly if they can get harden playing unselfish basketball they cld ba an absolute juggernaut on offense

lag∞n, Thursday, 13 October 2016 20:02 (seven years ago) link

agree w everyone that the bulls will be dire, bunch of grumpy guys who like having the ball and cant shoot

lag∞n, Thursday, 13 October 2016 20:02 (seven years ago) link

wade's transition to old man career has been better than expected but i just don't see him/it holding up this year

Spottie, Thursday, 13 October 2016 20:07 (seven years ago) link

rondo is awful and is going to make everyone miserable, jimmy butler was already miserable last year... it all seems very bad to me

J0rdan S., Thursday, 13 October 2016 20:24 (seven years ago) link

maybe they cn assemble the banana boat next year

lag∞n, Thursday, 13 October 2016 20:35 (seven years ago) link

i hope so.

Spottie, Thursday, 13 October 2016 20:36 (seven years ago) link

maybe philly will sell their soul for it and that was the process all along

Spottie, Thursday, 13 October 2016 20:37 (seven years ago) link

poor Hoiberg, gets almost a totally new roster and it still is the opposite of what his "system" needs

Paul Pierce on SiriusXM NBA Radio:

I’m an old-school guy. I’m a competitor. I never believed that – when you want to be the best, you’ve to beat the best. That’s always been something that’s driven me. Today’s day and age, a lot of these guys are friends. That’s like if Bird decided to go play with Magic or something. These guys, I think the competition makes the game what is.

And Oklahoma, I felt like, was a contending team. They had Golden State on the ropes. I understand when you have great players on losing teams who are tired of losing, struggling in the playoffs every year. You’re the lone star. I’ve been in that position. I could have left Boston years ago, but I stuck it out. I just feel like when you’re that close, as a competitor, you don’t go join the team that just put you out.

That’s just me personally, but we’re living in a day and time where there’s a new generation. Guys I don’t think they are as hungry or competitive as my generation was, and that’s why you’ll probably see more of that.

Draymond:

What are your thoughts on the continued rhetoric surrounding Durant’s decision?

GREEN: “I just wonder at what point do they get bored talking about the same thing. You got all these guys talking. Like (Paul) Pierce today, like, dude nobody care what you did or who you did it for. Just give it a break. Everybody got something to say and want to take everything he say and twist it. Like, he play with the Warriors. OKC has their team, we have our team. He left there. Nobody complain when somebody leave Apple and go to Google. Aren’t they in competition with each other? Nobody talk junk about the CEO who leaves Apple and goes to Google. As a basketball player, you are the CEO of a business. You are a business. Kevin Durant is a big business. He is the CEO of that business. So him going to play basketball for a different team, the CEO decided to leave where he was at and go somewhere else.”

“But there’s so many guys in this league that are so stupid they don’t think like that. They don’t think business wise. It happens every day in the world. But in basketball it’s a problem. Aren’t you competitive in your day job if you work for Apple? Don’t you want to outdo Google? What’s the difference on the basketball court. It’s your day job. You want to do what’s better for you. If it’s better for your family life, better for your happiness. Ain’t no one criticizing them. I don’t understand it. I’ll never understand it. So that’s just me. And I’d be willing to bet my salary ain’t many guys in this league more competitive than me.”

How has Kevin been behind the scenes with this stuff?

GREEN: “He’s been himself. No one is worried about that. He laugh at it the times I’ve seen it. It’s a joke for real. Like these dudes got kids and they worried about what this grown man is doing with his life? Give it a break.”
