i have something to say about the offseason THE 2016 NBA OFFSEASON

Paul Pierce on SiriusXM NBA Radio:

I’m an old-school guy. I’m a competitor. I never believed that – when you want to be the best, you’ve to beat the best. That’s always been something that’s driven me. Today’s day and age, a lot of these guys are friends. That’s like if Bird decided to go play with Magic or something. These guys, I think the competition makes the game what is.

And Oklahoma, I felt like, was a contending team. They had Golden State on the ropes. I understand when you have great players on losing teams who are tired of losing, struggling in the playoffs every year. You’re the lone star. I’ve been in that position. I could have left Boston years ago, but I stuck it out. I just feel like when you’re that close, as a competitor, you don’t go join the team that just put you out.

That’s just me personally, but we’re living in a day and time where there’s a new generation. Guys I don’t think they are as hungry or competitive as my generation was, and that’s why you’ll probably see more of that.

Draymond:

What are your thoughts on the continued rhetoric surrounding Durant’s decision?

GREEN: “I just wonder at what point do they get bored talking about the same thing. You got all these guys talking. Like (Paul) Pierce today, like, dude nobody care what you did or who you did it for. Just give it a break. Everybody got something to say and want to take everything he say and twist it. Like, he play with the Warriors. OKC has their team, we have our team. He left there. Nobody complain when somebody leave Apple and go to Google. Aren’t they in competition with each other? Nobody talk junk about the CEO who leaves Apple and goes to Google. As a basketball player, you are the CEO of a business. You are a business. Kevin Durant is a big business. He is the CEO of that business. So him going to play basketball for a different team, the CEO decided to leave where he was at and go somewhere else.”

“But there’s so many guys in this league that are so stupid they don’t think like that. They don’t think business wise. It happens every day in the world. But in basketball it’s a problem. Aren’t you competitive in your day job if you work for Apple? Don’t you want to outdo Google? What’s the difference on the basketball court. It’s your day job. You want to do what’s better for you. If it’s better for your family life, better for your happiness. Ain’t no one criticizing them. I don’t understand it. I’ll never understand it. So that’s just me. And I’d be willing to bet my salary ain’t many guys in this league more competitive than me.”

How has Kevin been behind the scenes with this stuff?

GREEN: “He’s been himself. No one is worried about that. He laugh at it the times I’ve seen it. It’s a joke for real. Like these dudes got kids and they worried about what this grown man is doing with his life? Give it a break.”

didn't paul pierce's teams go nowhere for a decade until his gm got a perennial mvp contender for a song from an old teammate and picked up another annual all-star (and the best shooter in the league) the same summer. hmm.

boston power moves 2k7 was the trend-setter for sure, kd going to gsw just the logical endpoint of that

i dont blame kd going to gsw to get open shots and play with ppl who consume a smaller amount of juice than russy westbrook. i just still think its boring and it sucks.

the idea that expansion to seattle is a possibility is interesting given the stuff about vivek's ownership group that just came out, where some ppl were suggesting that seattle serves the league better as a stick to get arena deals and stuff done in existing markets.

thats true, but lots of cities have been in that role and still got a team eventually (new orleans comes to mind)

naw rondo is way better

tony snell has some utility but the bulls won't let that stop them from acquiring every guard who can't shoot.

Hard to know how good rondo is any more since all he's done since his knee injury is stat hunt on mediocre/bad teams, but their 2016 per 36 #s were pretty similar outside of assists.

Had no idea rondo shot 36.5% from 3 tho, that's pretty remarkable for someone who can't shoot.

The model home thing is hilarious

I thought i posted about it but guess not. So within that first paragraph they reveal that he lives within a quarter mile from where I live. That IronWorks bar/restaurant is down the street from me and the neighborhood he has a home in just across the block. Was really weird and surreal to see those pics and read that cos I've eaten the all you can eat fish fry and done the karaoke there a handful of times. I want to meet him now, shake his hand.
