I've fixed the title - although personally I was hoping 'One Dance' clocked in at #778.

Never heard of this band, but the song is okay, though pretty generic. Reminds me of that '80s pastiche artist that got two songs in last year's top 77, can't remember her name? I guess ILM never grows tired of the synth pop + wispy indie singing combination? Anyway, this is a bit better than that last year's thing, 'cos the autotune in the chorus at least makes it sound not like a total pastiche, and the backing vocals are nice too. Bottom of the list is a fitting placement.

I voted for this! For some reason I didn't get into much new music over the first few months of the year and I had "Moth To The Flame" stuck in my head for weeks on end until I finally found something else to dislodge it. Album was boring though.

Chairlift song is cute but I admit defeat to Turrican in the sense that I haven't returned to Moth nearly as much as Something. "Crying In Public" was the highlight from the record imo. The band is formally broken up now but hopefully Caroline can ditch her disposition towards instrumental albums and fluffy experimentalism and release the pop album she is capable of

This is pretty good, clearly in the same genre as #77, but much more idiosyncratic! The backing has some cute and memorable synths, and the vocals sound like they wouldn't be out of place on some '90s singer-songwriter album, like Lisa Loeb, which is refreshing compared to the cliched breathy vocal style of the previous entry. Hard to understand why it needs to include French rapping, but that doesn't ruin it.

I googled the name, apparently the singer is French, I guess that explains it? The whole song could've been in French though.

Are you sure? In this post- "Dragostea Din Tei" and "Gangnam Style" world, is language still such a barrier? Especially French, which a lot of people think is "sexy" even if they don't understand it?

Chairlift at Roskilde this summer was nice, but I'll admit I don't remember any of the songs they played...

I usually agree on this stuff, but the Christine album is genuinely huge now. Having said that I didn't feel the need to sling any of its individual tracks a vote.

I would have thought Christine and the Queens were Swedish. I'm not sure I approve of this kind of cultural appropriation.

Like nothing is shambhala if it's familiar to people whose main engagement with music is through watching Graham Norton.

This one has nice verses, they remind me of the non-Shaggy vocals in Shaggy's "It Wasn't Me". Chorus is a bit rubbish tho.

moth to the flame was one of the best tracks on a very disappointing album

tilted is fine but maybe a bit too restrained for me, i'm not surprised she broke through in the UK this year though

its weird that starboy was such a big hit, production is fantastic sounding but it's a bit slight and i wish it had a much better bridge

I've never heard an Underworld track that wouldn't sound better as an instrumental, and this one's no exception. Well, at least here the vocals are just forgettable instead of actively irritating.

I have a lot of love for some Underworld but listening to that album was like listening to someone building a wall and this is no exception.

'Nylon Strung' and 'Low Burn' are two of their best 00s tracks easily.

Don't really get why hetero males necessarily would like "All Night" in particular. Infidelity (and by extension forgiveness of same) is like one of the very few activities that transcends pretty much all tribal identities.

Anyway in a lot of ways it's a deeply condescending song which is one of the things I like about it.

40 no problems - imo, a perfect song. first time i've watched the video but it's very charming and laid back, all the cameos very natural, it seems like they like chance. also chance's dance moves ^_^ also everyone said it but the lil wayne verse is *kiss fingers* 'hold up, i got this sewed up, my soda poured up/my woes up, I'm flippin' those bucks, they doing toe tucks'

totally agree, the song/video combo for this song just make it greater and greater, i think it was up in this thread someone said that 2 chainz voice was a breath of fresh air, very true. this, the marfox and A Change of Heart are the best finds for me from this list.
