it was great theater at the v least - woozy 7 footer trying to hit an unguarded 15 footer

p?nico (ice cr?m), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:09 (fifteen years ago) link

"man up and hit yr free throws"

Under normal circumstances I think that's a fair answer, but it's less fair when you've been seriously clocked in the head by a guy not making a play on the ball.

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:10 (fifteen years ago) link

the slomo replay from behind the play of miller being WIDE open but having to traverse the seemingly endless 15 ft to the basket while all C's quickly converge on him was priceless

I also have no doubt that all you Celtic and Bulls fans would be arguing the exact opposite positions if the situation was reversed haha.

that's how all close games should be decided. ok your smallest guy gets to clock our biggest guy, and then we see who can make the most ft's.

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:11 (fifteen years ago) link

well duh, i'm not complaining about ray getting tossed and no c's fans are up in arms about rose never getting a call.

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:12 (fifteen years ago) link

i think the refs wouldve called the flagrant if theyd initially realized how bad the hit was but then the whole thing sort of just meandered along until millers at the free throw line all squinting and in pain

p?nico (ice cr?m), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:14 (fifteen years ago) link

but they were over there reviewing the play the whole time. according to local chi announcers, they went to the monitor once, then went back again.

Del Negro should have just told the trainer to pretend to not have any Stop Bleed or whatever, a la Steve Nash's bloody nose

DJ Khaled El-Amin (dyao), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:17 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah i didn't even realize he was bleeding at first.

i will fully admit the bulls didn't get some calls in that game (how does perk have 0 fouls for the game??) but also that ray fouled out on some tacky bullshit. in a game that close, as i stated, there's about a million things that could have broken differently and produced another result. that's just how it goes.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:18 (fifteen years ago) link

Tim Donaghy probably had a lot riding on this game and called in some favors

DJ Khaled El-Amin (dyao), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:20 (fifteen years ago) link

had there been no blood i dont think people would be as into the idea of this being a flagrant - and the presence of blood doesnt necessarily correlate w/the severity of the hit - could easily just be a weird freak cut

just to be clear by the rule book as rondo was not making a play on the ball and it was a blow to the head that was clearly a flagrant - agree w/it not being called tho

lool btw

p?nico (ice cr?m), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:23 (fifteen years ago) link

nah it should've been called for sure, absolutely. but whatever, the bulls will just get a couple of extra calls their way tonight.

~*GAME 2 SNYPA*~ (omar little), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:27 (fifteen years ago) link

ok cream, i am a huge stan for rondo, and i'm glad the Cs won, but if you agree that it was a flagrant, wtf? what are these "non 48 minutes who score the most concerns" that are going to destroy the game? we should just let 'em throw punches as long as the clock is winding down?

death from abroad (lukas), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:29 (fifteen years ago) link

great series tho huh guys. every game EXCEPT FOR THE ONE I SHELLED OUT $120 FOR.

A flagrant foul-penalty (1) is unnecessary contact committed by a player against an opponent.

the complete flagrant 1 definition from the nba rules, fwiw

well the extra game considerations are protecting player health - its obv important but has nothing to do w/the actual game of basketball

throwing punches is another issue altogether - that an obvious ejection and suspension - the player at that point isnt playing the game of basketball and is endangering people - rondo on the other hand was just trying to keep miller from scoring

should be noted too that rondos play doesnt even register as far as shit they used to let guys get away with in the golden magic/bird/jordan era

p?nico (ice cr?m), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:54 (fifteen years ago) link

rondos play was clearly necessary

p?nico (ice cr?m), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:55 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah that's my thing--seems like the refs called based on rondo's intent, not the result. obv problematic in some sense. it would help if the wording of the rule wasn't retardedly vague.

Brad Miller is like the whiter even uglier version of Bruce Bowen in terms of punchability.

I'd have loved to clear the court and let Artest, Oakley, and Miller just go at Shaq for a while. Throwing a sucker rabbit punch.

What happen to Brad Miller shirt?

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 20:35 (fifteen years ago) link

Shaq's punch is so comical looking.

I suppose if I was Brad Miller we would also be stripping naked and running away so really I can't judge.

No surprise at all. Replay pretty conclusive about the elbow to the head.

"Dwight Howard had a great game, and he's a great player, but he just lives in the 3-second lane on offense and defense," DiLeo said. "I'm just saying he's standing in the 3-second lane on offense and defense. He's a great player, and he doesn't need any advantages."

Magic coach Stan Van Gundy heard DiLeo's remarks, took the podium and defended his star center by taking a shot at DiLeo.

http://a.espncdn.com/i/headshots/nba/coaches/65/30030.jpg "Am I supposed to come up here and talk about the game. Or am I supposed to come up here and lobby for the calls I want the next game?" Van Gundy said. "Is that what it's about now? We're supposed to lobby for the calls we want the next game? Let's just play the games."

nah rong (Dr. Phil), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 21:20 (fifteen years ago) link
