the ghost in the shell trailer was surprisingly excellent. who knows what that suggests for the actual movie

On the other hand, Horrible Bosses was 2011, its sequel was 2014, so we've dodged some kind of bullet there.

i will prob end up seeing the kong movie, even the worst king kong movies are somehow still kinda great

The original Going in Style starred George Burns, Art Carney and Lee Strasburg. who the fuck has Zach Braff got lined up that can outdo those guys?

Logan is the first X-Men movie I've been interested in seeing since X2. considering how ill conceived his role and how off-key his performance on Narcos is, Boyd Holbrook looks shockingly amazing in the villain role

nomar, Friday, 24 February 2017 03:39 (seven years ago) link

Logan looks really, really good. and I like all the x men movies to a degree

akm, Friday, 24 February 2017 03:43 (seven years ago) link

Holbrook studied acting with the William Esper Studio's two-year Meisner Acting Program, and with Shane Ann Younts' two-year voice and speech program, and he received an SCPS Certificate in 16mm film from New York University.[1]

oh christ, one of those guys

Dead Man's Chest is the best of the Pirates films! Though mark s can put up a fight for At World's End. This one will probably be garbage though.

Top 5 looking forward to:
John Wick 2 - seeing this weekend.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Rian Johnson!
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter - This really won't be 'a retread', the good Paul Anderson has been making a great slept-on series of action horror with three great leading ladies, and this is the last of them.
The Fate of the Furious - Oddly, both this series and Resident Evil have killed off Michelle Rodriguez's character and then brought her back later, because Michelle Rodriguez.
Logan - This might break my heart? The trailer looks sooo good.

Challops: Guardians of the Galaxy 2 could be terrible.

Broadly cosign all this but u mad as Johnny depps hatter if u rep for anything other than pirates 1

Alien will probably be the most disappointing compared to the original but Prometheus softens the blow there. (if not Alien: Resurrection - I 'm still very fond of A:R but most people hate it)

King Arthur trailer looks completely awful, it might be the worst of these because it will overall be competently acted and directed but just bad (unlike Transformers or Pirates).

Alien > Alien3 > Alien: Resurrection > Aliens >>>>>>>>>> Alien vs. Predator > Alien vs. Predator 2 >>>>> that issue of X-Men that was a blatant ripoff of Alien >>>>>>>>>> Prometheus

disqualified due to your passing over the distinction between that issue where Kitty faces a lone N'Garai demon in the basement (which doubles as a blatant ripoff of Halloween), and the first storyline about the embryo-implanting Brood (which doubles as a blatant ripoff of The Thing). both are awesome btw and way better than either AVP movie so overall i find your challop poorly-researched.

is the assembly cut of Alien 3 any good

waht, I am true black metal worrior (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 1 March 2017 01:48 (seven years ago) link

Way back when I got a leaked draft of the Alien 4 script in hand, read it and wondered:WTF? Then I saw an early screening and yeah, WTF.

I didn't mind the sort of A3 directors cut.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 1 March 2017 01:48 (seven years ago) link

Assembly Cut.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 1 March 2017 01:48 (seven years ago) link

Whedon has a commentary on the A:R disc where he talks quite a lot about what in that movie is what he wrote and what isn't.

that issue where Kitty faces a lone N'Garai demon in the basement (which doubles as a blatant ripoff of Halloween)

I haven't read a superhero comic in 30 years, but this is the one I was thinking of.

Whedon also wrote the first X-Men movie and Toy Story, if you weren't aware and were looking for another shockingly late revelation.

people always defend him with this, but almost all the stuff I hated most is in his original script

Alien 3 assembly cut is actually pretty good: somewhat better than the cinema release. It's still a very flawed film, but a very interesting flawed film. It has some incredibly shoddy audio in a couple of extra scenes, though. Another plus for me is that it also features no horribly dying dogs.

I hear from this arsehole again, he's going in the river (James Morrison), Wednesday, 1 March 2017 03:57 (seven years ago) link

Whedon also did some work on "Speed."

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 1 March 2017 04:34 (seven years ago) link

He is pissy about how much of his work was cut from X-Men, and bitches about the delivery of one of the two lines that remains (lightning, frog), which suggests that he really didn't get what the excellent resulting film was about. Which is about on par for Joss Whedon.

Alien: Resurrection is also a fine Alien film, it's just an Alien film made by the people who made Delicatessen rather than the ones who made Terminator or Sesevenen.

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 1 March 2017 10:18 (seven years ago) link

Logan is basically the X-Men's Children of Men, for good or bad (mostly good!), by the way.

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 1 March 2017 21:51 (seven years ago) link

Beauty and the Beast this whole live-action Disney remake scam is so stupid, and of all the canonical Disney films this is maybe the most offensive, greeeeeat.

― tales of a scorched-earth nothing (Doctor Casino), Friday, 24 February 2017 01:44

Why is this more offensive? I suspect it was made in a hurry to keep away the Christophe Gans version (which looks like he can't stay away from cgi overkill). That would be a very Disney move.

Bad Dads & A Bad Moms Christmas? Did Bad Santa start this trend?

Bad Teachers
Bad Bosses
Bad Neighbors
Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa

And their sequels.

Old Lunch- That's what I was thinking. As if there's a huge thrill in the idea of people acting inappropriate. A bit like those chocolate and yogurt adverts where it's oh so naughty to eat some.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Friday, 3 March 2017 18:44 (seven years ago) link

Anyone see the Christophe Gans Beauty And The Beast?

Robert Adam Gilmour, Friday, 3 March 2017 18:45 (seven years ago) link

Bad Dads was a planned television series on the Fox Network that would have focused on deadbeat dads.[1] Due to a protest movement started by Glenn Sacks and several masculist groups, including Fathers & Families and the American Coalition for Fathers and Children, Fox shelved the project.[2]

jmm, Friday, 3 March 2017 18:45 (seven years ago) link

@ RAG, I just think Disney's BATB is really unsettling training in how to rationalize an abusive relationship. But I've gone on about that on this board enough before.

GITS is going to bomb imo. Some of these are even funny:

http://kotaku.com/twitter-users-troll-the-ghost-in-the-shell-hollywood-mo-1793287657

Also here's a fun fact about The Great Wall:

It joined Terminator Genisys, Warcraft and fellow 2017 film xXx: Return of Xander Cage as the only Hollywood releases to earn $100 million in China without making $100 million in the United States.

SFTGFOP (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 15 March 2017 16:06 (seven years ago) link

I can't find anything on the budget for GITS. It does look like a possible bomb.

I might just rent the anime that weekend. I haven't seen it in a decade at least.

jmm, Wednesday, 15 March 2017 16:35 (seven years ago) link

I thought the sequel is better by a long way.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Wednesday, 15 March 2017 16:48 (seven years ago) link

I thought the sequel was one of the worst films I have ever seen.

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 15 March 2017 17:31 (seven years ago) link

Really? Joke after the "worst film" thread?

Makes me think about how there used to be more really quiet and long anime like Wings Of Honneamise, Patlabor and Angel's Egg. I usually didn't like it but I don't imagine they make much like that now.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Wednesday, 15 March 2017 17:50 (seven years ago) link

Some of the reviewers giving extremely positive accounts of this travesty must have been paid off generously.
