Trump's America, March 2017: Using His Inside VOICE

Both Susan Collins and Tom Cotton (Senate Intel members) said this morning "We've seen no evidence at all" and are pretty much saying the WH has to give it up if it exists. Also on the roffle front: Mike Rogers, former House Intel chairman as well as Trump transition guy -- much like, say, Nunes, said this:

"(Trump) just put another quarter in the conspiracy parking meter."

wh now calling for congressional investigation into potential abuses of power by the Obama administration

Will this come before or after the investigation into voter fraud? Or before or after Melania's anti-bullying measures?

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 5 March 2017 16:27 (seven years ago) link

let's say it was confirmed that Trump campaign had established a quid-pro-quo w/ Russia that they would leak hacked DNC & Clinton campaign emails in exchange for removing sanctions. what's the probability of Trump actually being impeached?

if this were actually demonstrated in the public record they would have to impeach him, especially if it were also demonstrated the pence was somehow blameless

i don't have a lot of confidence in a republican controlled congress but a quid pro quo that involved election tampering would be tough to wave off

jason waterfalls (gbx), Sunday, 5 March 2017 16:27 (seven years ago) link

This is a guy who was about to call for a nationwide recount to prove he won the popular vote, until McConnell talked him down. Now he wants to go on the road, leave all the staff behind and make his own decisions.

oh good -- another week distracting the Congress from ACA repeal and a budget.

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 5 March 2017 16:32 (seven years ago) link

“Reports concerning potentially politically motivated investigations immediately ahead of the 2016 election are very troubling,” Spicer said. “President Donald J. Trump is requesting that as part of their investigation into Russian activity, the congressional intelligence committees exercise their oversight authority to determine whether executive branch investigative powers were abused in 2016.”

Hold up, if Trump demands an investigation into Trump Tower wiretapping, then ... doesn't he invite congressional investigators to expand their search to include Trump, his staff, their phone records, etc?

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 5 March 2017 16:33 (seven years ago) link

OTM this is exactly what I've been saying to ppl myself

Οὖτις, Sunday, 5 March 2017 16:53 (seven years ago) link

Despite the distractions, it looks like wh and congress are starting to coalesce around a health care plan. Whether it can pass is another question, but I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing this move forward faster.

Moodles, Sunday, 5 March 2017 16:55 (seven years ago) link

Thats the one thing i worry about with a President Pence. Less distraction from passing shitty legislation.

He and Flynn both look like leprechauns, Flynn a demonic one and Sessions a seemingly more benign one

― Treeship, Sunday, March 5, 2017 3:19 PM (three hours ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

I've been trying to think what exactly Flynn reminds me of. I think there's a specific Orc from the LOTR series that he always reminded me of.
Also some kind of Henson or Anderson portrayal of a witch.

Did wonder if there was more to the Ron Moody as Fagin thing than being reminded of the song from Oliver by what Trump said, but not sure. Reviewing the situation like.

Stevolende, Sunday, 5 March 2017 18:55 (seven years ago) link

Flynn is totally hatchet faced. He looks like Mickey Rourke's guy from "Sin City." Or Dick Tracy.

1/ trump’s hunger for news-like sources that confirm his worldview is building a conspiracy theory feedback loop that will get stronger

2/ if you thought the incentives for clickbait headlines were bad, imagine the incentives for trumpbait news...

3/ if i’m an alt-right writer in trump’s orbit, the last 48 hours show that trump will lavish valuable attention on theories w/o evidence

4/ it is the perfect marriage of convenience: right-wing media sources provide ersatz “intel,” and trump rewards them with publicity

5/ … and the best stories hit the media jackpot: not just attn, but influence. congress is launching an investigation based on tweets!

6/ you don’t need a media dictatorship to build 21st-c Pravda; in the right conditions, it will self-construct under attn-driven economics

frankie r. failson (bizarro gazzara), Sunday, 5 March 2017 21:42 (seven years ago) link

The original source of the rumour that Trump / Trump Tower were bugged appears to have been Louise Mensch (something she now seems to deny saying). This was picked up by Breitbart and then on to Trump - whose reaction triggered more Heat Street speculation. You have a feedback loop of people who should lock themselves in an airtight room and lose the key.

if fuckin' only

frankie r. failson (bizarro gazzara), Sunday, 5 March 2017 21:51 (seven years ago) link

Louise Mensch must be made up that someone is treating her as something other than a posh troll.

syzygy stardust (suzy), Sunday, 5 March 2017 21:54 (seven years ago) link

The feedback loop might grow stronger but it is not getting bigger. If anything it is shrinking and getting denser, like a black hole.

The F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, asked the Justice Department this weekend to publicly reject President Trump’s assertion that President Barack Obama ordered the tapping of Mr. Trump’s phones, senior American officials said on Sunday. Mr. Comey has argued that the highly charged claim is false and must be corrected, they said, but the department has not released any such statement.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 5 March 2017 22:03 (seven years ago) link

how could he watch so much tv but never have seen an episode of law & order that makes it clear how wiretapping works

he probably thinks that if you're the president you just get some guys, and say to the guys, go in there and tap this, and they install some whatevers, super covertly, and then the president sits there in his office with special headphones

j., Sunday, 5 March 2017 22:04 (seven years ago) link

That was my theory months ago: that's probably exactly how he thinks it works! Like an episode of "24" or some shitty Hollywood movie. He probably walks around pointing to pixelating images demanding "enhance!!!"

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 5 March 2017 22:07 (seven years ago) link

oh good -- another week distracting the Congress from ACA repeal and a budget.

Not meant as a rhetorical question: if the entire country were focused on ACA repeal and the budget, would that actually slow whatever's going to happen down any? I thought the Republicans have safe majorities in both houses.

Well, once you delete something from the internet, it never happened and there's no way for anyone to prove otherwise. Everybody over the age of sixty knows that.
