and just really one of the best rock albums ever made imo

Simon, are you from Ottawa? I'm trying to work out if I might have seen your hardcore band.

Also Compound Red's record would have been my ballot/nomination. Feel like they're mostly forgotten. But there's a SDRE vibe to them, maybe Fireside (from what I remember, haven't listened to Fireside inawhile)

And with that, Brad persuades me to give this a chance.
I should give it a listen too.

this album does indeed rock

true story: i wrote an email to Jim Adkins asking him if "goodbye sky harbor" was about A Prayer for Owen Meany bc it was my favorite book and he replied about a month later thanking me for writing and confirmed that yes it was about A Prayer for Owen Meany and it was his favorite book too

i know this is the masterpiece but i still like static prevails and bleed american better
― gr8080, Friday, 10 March 2017 17:21 (seven years ago) link
I don't mind Bleed American tbh, although "Sweetness" is the real standout.

i meant to tell this story when static prevails placed, but i took my then eleven-year-old brother to see JEW play to a crowd of about 25ppl on a school night in 1997.
when clarity was all his freshman-year friends' favorite album a few years later he had major cool points
nice
― Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Friday, 10 March 2017 17:28 (seven years ago) link
Heh, there's going to be an all-90s cover band show tonight, with my friend playing in a Fugazi cover band, but I probably can't make it since I'm leaving Ottawa tomorrow.

I have a stronger emotional connection to TITWIGAGAG but I think I now agree with the apparent consensus that this is the better album, they seem to have just pushed right up to every limit

I voted for the other Juno album based on one listen. I couldn't find all of this one.

I can't take all the credit but this is definitely my most substantive contribution to ILM, and indeed perhaps life itself

I only listened to the other one and voted for it. Excited to check this out soon.

Oh man I've got soooo much listening to do after this poll.
Wish I hadn't clicked that abysmal Rob Mitchum review tho

honestly not much better than the Brent D rave for the first album where he calls them "the Radiohead of punk"

i should have voted. frame & canvas and desaparecidos should have been way higher! come on those are like top 5 emo classics. along with appleseed cast's LLO. hmm, turns out that what should have happened aligns very closely with my personal held opinions, pretty odd!

fuck yeah jets to brazil, i revisited that album a few months back and was really surprised at how well it stood the test of time. since we're sharing JTB memories, the only time i saw them was at this local festival, written about here by one of ILM's own: http://www.popmatters.com/review/more-than-music-festival-2002/
also, thanks for the years in the countdown and recap!
