call all destroyer, Friday, 10 March 2017 21:03 (seven years ago) link

lol I'm dumb

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 10 March 2017 21:03 (seven years ago) link

o shit i was wrong on my 90s/00s breakdown :-0

gr8080, Friday, 10 March 2017 21:03 (seven years ago) link

lol i also think change is much better but voted for this cause it felt more emo

devvvine, Friday, 10 March 2017 21:04 (seven years ago) link

p much every one of my friends was berzerk over this when it came out

I saw them in like 95-96 touring for "!" & hated them, then when E&I came out couldn't believe it was the same band

I want to change my display name (dan m), Friday, 10 March 2017 21:05 (seven years ago) link

I voted for this one

Odysseus, Friday, 10 March 2017 21:05 (seven years ago) link

Yeah I find a few of these songs grate on me like "You Are Invited" or "What Do You Want Me To Say." I like them but "Face Of The Earth" and especially "Superpowers" are songs I can enjoy anytime.

billstevejim, Friday, 10 March 2017 21:06 (seven years ago) link

i adopted my dog when she was 8 weeks old & the family that had the dog that had the litter she was a part of let their pre-teen girls name all the puppies. mine was named Charlotte for what i could only assume was a GC ref.

i named her Charlie

gr8080, Friday, 10 March 2017 21:06 (seven years ago) link

xp But maybe that's because the former are more traditionally emo.

billstevejim, Friday, 10 March 2017 21:06 (seven years ago) link

"you are invited" still rules

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 10 March 2017 21:07 (seven years ago) link

imo emergency and i doesn't fit any of the genre parameters established but whatev

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Friday, 10 March 2017 21:07 (seven years ago) link

never was a huge fan of emergency &i but it made my ballot - "the city" is so crazy and awesome

gr8080, Friday, 10 March 2017 21:08 (seven years ago) link

that song still rules

call all destroyer, Friday, 10 March 2017 21:08 (seven years ago) link

they were/are in insanely tight band but travis's schtick just did not hold up

call all destroyer, Friday, 10 March 2017 21:09 (seven years ago) link

one of my favorite rhythm sections for sure

I want to change my display name (dan m), Friday, 10 March 2017 21:09 (seven years ago) link

also remember Travistan? his schtick didn't last past the dissolution of the band

I want to change my display name (dan m), Friday, 10 March 2017 21:09 (seven years ago) link

I've actually never heard this. I have no idea what it even sounds like. Excited to find out!

tangenttangent, Friday, 10 March 2017 21:10 (seven years ago) link

I still love that album to bits. the last 4 tracks are unbelievable.

josh az (2011nostalgia), Friday, 10 March 2017 21:10 (seven years ago) link

^e&i, not travistan. Good luck making it through that one.

josh az (2011nostalgia), Friday, 10 March 2017 21:10 (seven years ago) link

ugh fuck travis

mookieproof, Friday, 10 March 2017 21:10 (seven years ago) link

"a life full of possibilities" is still such a weird/ballsy opener

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 10 March 2017 21:11 (seven years ago) link

i definitely remember hearing it for the first time and wondering what i had gotten myself into

call all destroyer, Friday, 10 March 2017 21:13 (seven years ago) link

Top 3 is pretty obvious at this point.

billstevejim, Friday, 10 March 2017 21:14 (seven years ago) link

plums (a hoy hoy), Friday, 10 March 2017 21:15 (seven years ago) link

I dunno I know his shtick wears on people but I admire travis for taking a shit ton of risks both lyrically and vocally

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 10 March 2017 21:15 (seven years ago) link

fingers crossed 6-7 ppl voted for PMFS s/t debut as #1, c'moonnnnnnnnn

I want to change my display name (dan m), Friday, 10 March 2017 21:15 (seven years ago) link

I didn't mind Travistan when I finally got around to hearing it although I never felt the need to give it a second listen...

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 10 March 2017 21:16 (seven years ago) link

rip black parade

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Friday, 10 March 2017 21:20 (seven years ago) link

more shockingly, RIP city by the light divided

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 10 March 2017 21:20 (seven years ago) link

Promise ring is one of my two guesses. The other is infinity on high.

plums (a hoy hoy), Friday, 10 March 2017 21:21 (seven years ago) link

TOO LOW

gr8080, Friday, 10 March 2017 21:22 (seven years ago) link

nothing feels good was my #1 without even a second thought, some days it feels like my #1 album of all time

WARNING: TMI/EMO:
i just listened to NFG on my morning commute in anticipation of its placing today (walking in 30°weather lol). this week’s rollout has beautifully coincided with an emotionally heavy period for me at work and the result was some legit fighting back exhaustion-tears from behind my sunglasses

END OF EMO

contrasting with simon’s description of domestica:

one of the starkest and most stressful rock albums ever, no relief or release at all (or when it comes it feels mocking)

NFG swerves and crashes between stress and relief at such a rapid clip that the result is a dizzying euphoria.

if the loud-quiet-loud formula the pixes perfected is emotional arithmetic , promise ring’s sonics feel like emotional chaos theory

i could go on but I’ll just defy thread convention and instead link to a brilliant pitchfork review for a change, ian cohen’s writeup of the 2015 re-release: http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/21125-nothing-feels-good/
