Separately, I'm sure Kellyanne would like to ask you to get your pre-orders in, as patriotic Americans:

I think the wisest thing Trump could do right now is impose extreme vetting for every single person arriving in or returning to America - that's only fair - and demand the ACA be 100% repealed with no replacement. Also, he should insist that coal be the single, exclusive fuel in America - America's fuel - and that every thing should run on coal, especially cars. I think if he did all those things that would solve all his problems.

All his problems, of course, stemming from the fundamental problem of being president.

lol at Trump calling this "judicial overreach". it's almost like he doesn't know what judges actually do.

waht, I am true black metal worrior (Neanderthal), Thursday, 16 March 2017 01:27 (seven years ago) link

Almost?

Trump more accustomed to judicial reach around.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 16 March 2017 01:37 (seven years ago) link

See, this all goes back to Trump's historic assholery. If he could even make a pretense of being reasonable, polite, gracious, accommodating, empathetic, I truly believe he could have pushed through some sort of travel ban with a lot of support. But because he has to be an asshole in the most asshole way possible, he will never get more people on his side. Which means he will never get more people on his side.

Meanwhile, in multitasking congress:

Tensions between congressional Republicans and the Trump administration are rising over Russia, as lawmakers probing alleged ties between the president’s team and the Kremlin accused officials of trying to block their efforts.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa), whose committee is one of several where investigations are fully underway, accused Justice Department officials Wednesday of lying when they promised to share information about ongoing department probes with lawmakers conducting oversight.

“It doesn’t matter whether you have a Republican or Democrat president, every time they come up here for their nomination hearing . . . I ask them, ‘Are you going to answer phone calls and our letters, and are you going to give us the documents we want?’ And every time we get a real positive ‘yes’! And then they end up being liars!” Grassley said, screaming into the phone during an interview with The Washington Post. “It’s not if they’re treating us differently than another committee. It’s if they’re responding at all.”

Yeah the courts opposing it isn't the concern, it's whether the people implementing it are given orders, explicit or otherwise, to ignore the courts.

Dershowitz otm

Wednesday night’s ruling could also impact the Supreme Court confirmation process for Judge Neil Gorsuch — one of the most smooth-sailing initiatives launched by the administration — because Democrats may now have a greater incentive to stall his appointment.

“He can’t change it again,” Dershowitz said in an interview. “That would be embarrassing. He’s going to seek an expedited appeal from the Ninth Circuit, and the Democrats will try to slow down the Gorsuch nomination so he won’t be there in time to break a four-four tie.”

Οὖτις, Thursday, 16 March 2017 01:54 (seven years ago) link

Altho I'm not so sure it would be a tie at this point

Chief Justice Roberts seems to have retained a shred of self-respect that he still wishes to preserve. One may hope this would be operative when this case arrives.

at this point, I hope Trump never dies, just forced to sit there at 173 years old reliving the "nelsonlaugh.jpg" that was his Presidency over and over, Ludovico-stylez in prison

I'm surprised there's no pro-ban litigation trying to claw its way to the fifth circuit but I guess you would need to prove damages to do so

So that speech was hot for about two or three hours after the speech was made, because they came up with other things, having to do with other people, that they shouldn't have been able to do and they shouldn't have done, but they did it. And you know exactly what I'm talking about.
