will be interesting to see if this gets to SCOTUS before Gorsuch gets seated. Having a nominee going through the confirmation process while the administration is gearing up for a huge court fight feels p unusual.

DOJ just filed an amicus brief in a case involving the CFPB and said its unconstitutional.. fuck.

The Roberts Way is to puncture legislation and programs he dislikes with enough holes such that their enforcement powers are nullified.

What's this about a laptop being stolen containing plans for trump tower

Never changed username before (cardamon), Friday, 17 March 2017 23:19 (seven years ago) link

Unless that story turns into a heist movie (preferably with Tom Cruise hanging from a harness, speaking in hushed tones into a headset to a wisecracking demolition expert, preferably played by Mos Def) it's probably a nothingburger. They can wipe the laptop remotely and nothing will come of it, alas.

sure, if it was your run of the mill thieves who stole it for the resale value of the fucking laptop itself. alternatively, giant USSS fuckup symptomatic of a broader trend I don't like to think about, and now some more competent professionals who knew exactly what they were after have gotten what they wanted. PS if we're lucky it was some NATO member state hedging their bets.

Jesus that fucking poem thing. It's not so much the gaffe or the crap Googling, but the way Trump has to immediately wrap an obvious lie around it ("This is a good one, this is one I like. I've heard it for many, many years and I love it.").

One of Judge Napolitano's sources? Larry C. Johnson, who once propagated a hoax about Michelle Obama

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 18 March 2017 04:53 (seven years ago) link

Mr. Napolitano, who keeps a residence in Manhattan at Trump International Hotel & Tower on Central Park West, did not respond to inquiries on Friday.

But Mr. Johnson, who was himself once a Fox News contributor, said in a telephone interview that Mr. Napolitano called him on Friday and requested that he speak to The New York Times. Mr. Johnson said he was one of the sources for Mr. Napolitano’s claim about British intelligence.

Mr. Johnson became infamous in political circles after he spread false rumors in 2008 that Michelle Obama had been videotaped using a slur against Caucasians. In the interview on Friday, Mr. Johnson acknowledged his notoriety, but said that his knowledge of surveillance of Mr. Trump came from sources in the American intelligence community. Mr. Napolitano, he said, heard about his information through an intermediary.

“It sounds like a Frederick Forsythe novel,” Mr. Johnson said.

Turns out ol' Larry is also kinda notorious for one of the most ill-timed op-eds ever.

Appearing at a luncheon with Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny on Thursday, Trump said: "As we stand together with our Irish friends, I'm reminded of that proverb -- and this is a good one, this is one I like. I've heard it for many, many years and I love it. 'Always remember to forget the friends that proved untrue. But never forget to remember those that have stuck by you.'"
"We know that, politically speaking. A lot of us know that, we know it well. It's a great phrase," Trump added.

also, when has trump ever remembered to forget anyone he thought proved untrue
