Apologizing for doing something shitty and possibly illegal but most of all blatant and illegal is the sort of thing the sweaty guy in the movie says when he shows up somewhere right before a bomb someone is forcing him to carry blows up. [opens shirt to reveal explosives] "I'm sorry ... "

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 23 March 2017 14:56 (seven years ago) link

this is both thoroughly unsurprising and depressing:

https://twitter.com/ddale8/status/844726595726327808

kinda makes you wish the news media had just said "there's no evidence of this and we're not covering it any further until there is." instead of, y'know, conducting endless interviews and roundtables with talking heads about something that was utter bullshit fantasy.

ugh stop reformatting. anyway Nunes "apologized"

nobody knew about Russia until Trump started talking about it

Whip count is who is voting ... no?

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 23 March 2017 15:35 (seven years ago) link

Per Alfred's joke -- exactly who besides Ryan is coming out saying the bill is great, anyway?

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 23 March 2017 15:36 (seven years ago) link

the tommy wiseau / trump thing is kind of blowing my mind

Karl Malone, Thursday, 23 March 2017 15:42 (seven years ago) link

what that they're so similar? or is there an actual "thing" out there on the web that I need to see?

Evan, Thursday, 23 March 2017 15:43 (seven years ago) link

I need to pull away from the news for the day. I'm getting myself into one of those pointless holes where it actually seems possible (and not just wishful-thinking hype) that the bill fails completely... or, equally, that at the 11th hour a few fence-sitters fold and it passes and suddenly it's "beating expectations, a huge win for Trump and Ryan as deal-makers..." even if it's a bill that's DOA in the Senate. Very easy to obsess over these twin possibilities and refresh the news sites over and over until the thing is actually voted on. Probably not a healthy use of my time.

tales of a scorched-earth nothing (Doctor Casino), Thursday, 23 March 2017 15:43 (seven years ago) link

oh, just the similarities. this part of what frogbs posted especially - But you can see very clearly the mainstream media, they donā€™t see that. They prefer bullshit like Jimmy Kimmelā€™s show, a redneck asshole, basically, Iā€™m sorry to say that, okay? Because they put Crystal Bell (Kristen Bell) on the program, and she advertised The Room and sheā€™s supposed to be a fan of The Room, this is ridiculous stuff! So for example Blu-ray. Nobody talk about Blu-ray. Thereā€™s only one Blu-ray you have in the entire world. Even Sony, now Iā€™m working with them, so weā€™ll see how weā€™re doing.

in the mid-2000s i was at my personal peak of pessimism about the future, but never once did i consider that the president of the U.S. would be indistinguishable from tommy wiseau in certain ways

"This bill is collapsing," one House Republican who declined to speak on the record told CNN.

xpost About to leave the country for a couple of weeks to a radically different time zone, looking forward to being completely out of sync/the loop with the news cycle.

I need to pull away from the news for the day.

same here, except i have the sinking feeling i'm not going to pull away. i just found myself thinking "where can i go to get good constant coverage of this all day until the vote happens?"

Karl Malone, Thursday, 23 March 2017 15:48 (seven years ago) link

xpost to myself But until then, I've got 24 hours of 24 hour news to absorb!

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 23 March 2017 15:50 (seven years ago) link

how familiar does this sound right now

So basically, long story short: I submitted ā€œThe Roomā€ to the Academy Awards ā€” you can check that, itā€™s a fact. We followed all the rules by doing a two-week run in Los Angeles and Iā€™m proud to be in the Academy database. After two weeksā€™ screening, I pulled it from circulation. But then we got all these requests from the audience demanding to screen it again. Thatā€™s a fact. We got several phone calls from the theater that people were campaigning because they wanted to see ā€œThe Room.ā€ I said to myself, ā€œWhat the heck.ā€ We got thousands of e-mails. So I said, ā€œYou know what, letā€™s just screen ā€˜The Roomā€™ at the Wilshire screening room.ā€™ But then we got into trouble. Which is good trouble, I guess (laughs). We violated the fire marshal code. Meaning that there were too many people showing up for the film. People were literally sitting on the floor. And they said we could not do this because we triggered the fire marshal code. So again, whatever you hear or read online is misleading. Because thatā€™s exactly what happened. I called the theater back and said, ā€œCan we screen it at midnight?ā€ Because sometimes people are late. And we started screening at the Laemmle Sunset in Los Angeles. We had one screening and today ā€” I donā€™t if you know, but now you know ā€” we screen ā€œThe Roomā€ once a month there and have 800 or 900 people come. So thatā€™s the history of ā€œThe Roomā€ and how we started the midnight screenings.

ahahahaha wow

tales of a scorched-earth nothing (Doctor Casino), Thursday, 23 March 2017 15:56 (seven years ago) link

frogbs, you should really meme-ify this (wiseau quotes over pictures of trump?) or pitch it somewhere as a "Who Said It...?" quizzicle feature or SOMETHING. feel like this comparison has the chance to go big, make you a lotta clicks.

tales of a scorched-earth nothing (Doctor Casino), Thursday, 23 March 2017 15:58 (seven years ago) link

Hey look, in the mean time, I guess, I canā€™t be doing so badly, because Iā€™m president, and youā€™re not. You know. Say hello to everybody OK?

'Say hello to everybody OK?' is my new conversational trick to get out of any situation, replacing 'i have to go to the bathroom'

Don't worry, guys, even if/when A-CHA-CHA fails, he'll at least have the 'JCC bomb threats perpetrated by Jewish Israeli teen' thing to preen over and rub in the libruhls' fat faces for a news cycle or two.

Nicholas Kristof: "Iā€™m told thereā€™s a persuasive piece of intelligence on ties between Russia & member of Trump team that isnā€™t yet public."....ā€œI'm afraid i can't elaborate,ā€ Kristof tells meā€¦.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 23 March 2017 16:12 (seven years ago) link

or pitch it somewhere as a "Who Said It...?"

well, I know what the first one would be

Well first of all - if you look at background, you work hard, you make money. It's no secret, okay? You work VERY hard, you make money.

Well I work very hard, 24/7, several days a week, okay?

imagine making the removal of guaranteed coverage for preconditions your big stand in voting for the bill. how fucking evil is that. 'yeah, i'll vote for the bill - but only if you tell me that people with pre-existing conditions won't be guaranteed coverage. why? because freedom. *chews on animal flesh* *chews on human flesh*

Nunes is asked if he got the info he briefed the White House on from the White House. He doesn't dismiss it.

I kinda love the idea that Trump was the source.
