wonder how long pravda has been waiting to hit publish on this? http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2017/03/24/ryancare-shifts-voters-against-gop-poll/

Hahah was just about to link that. Fun fact of course is that it's a Democratic poll they're citing.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 24 March 2017 17:47 (seven years ago) link

Ned are you licking your chops for Darrel Issa's 2018 house campaign? Not sure if you're closer to OC than LA but I want this fucker to squirm.

Issa's toast, he barely held on last time and this time there'll be a shit-ton of anti-Trump animus

Οὖτις, Friday, 24 March 2017 17:50 (seven years ago) link

Oh he was already squirming last year. Next time around will be ridiculous. (Currently in SF and Issa was never my rep, but I'll happily watch him twist in the wind.)

Another no vote from Dave Joyce, meaning:

https://twitter.com/stevenportnoy/status/845331426065219586

With @RepDaveJoyce's announcement, CBS News counts 38 GOP "no" votes for repeal/replace

Ned Raggett, Friday, 24 March 2017 17:52 (seven years ago) link

h8 to indulge in 5th-dimensional chess about these dingbats but i'm nervous

is there any possibility that the republicans are, essentially, faking the 'no' votes and that there will be a sea change at the last minute -- a move designed to demoralize the left / shore up trump's image as a last-minute dealmaker?

or am i just giving everyone way too much credit

jason waterfalls (gbx), Friday, 24 March 2017 17:53 (seven years ago) link

so does Ryan lose the speakership over this?

generally speaking, a Rep that publicly commits to vote one way and then actually votes another on the floor will get pilloried/laughed out of office

Οὖτις, Friday, 24 March 2017 17:54 (seven years ago) link

like Trump admin actually thinks no Congressmen will be brazen enough to vote "no" when that's, like, a thing they do, and often.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 24 March 2017 17:56 (seven years ago) link

man the wheels are really coming off now

According to [new Quinnipiac] poll, which surveyed 1,056 voters nationwide from March 16-21, 66 percent of respondents said they wanted an independent commission to investigate the links between Trump campaign advisers and the Russian government, compared to 29 percent who did not think so. Sixty-five percent of respondents think alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election is either “very important” or “somewhat important,” and 63 percent said they were “very concerned” or “somewhat concerned” about Trump’s relationship with Russia.

i think this thing is going down. i share your hesitance to celebrate early, though.

my real fear is that they'll just turn around and push tons of tax cuts in a few weeks, it'll pass easily, and the amnesiac americans will push trump's favorability back to where it was 2 weeks ago

Imagine what Paul Ryan must think. First, Trump goads him into rushing a bill into existence, then pledges 100% support for a couple of days, then he cuts him off at the knees in the most public way possible. If Ryan holds the vote and the bill goes down in flames, he's humiliated. If Ryan defies Trump and asserts his power as Speaker to delay the vote, he and Trump will be locked in a death match and the party explodes. Interesting times.

Party unity is fucked after this, is the problem. FC will be emboldened to push for totally insane shit, moderates will balk, Speaker will have no credibility, Trump will be awol.

Relax on that point -- pretty much everyone says things like AHCA are nowhere near as complicated as tax reform.

And were it not for gerrymandering, voter suppression and maybe Russian collusion, you wouldn't be good at winning elections either.

big diff between millions of civilian voters and a coupla hundred Congressmen who could lose even by faking a "no" vote for a day.

anything's possible but seems like a sitcom-y approach

Comey now reported to being in th WH. This is sitcom Friends stuff where in the final scene everyone's in the same room. Silent.

Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 24 March 2017 18:39 (seven years ago) link

I kinda want all this to come together. Comey announces universal health care, Ryan sent on secret mission to stop Russia with his bro workout routine.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 24 March 2017 18:39 (seven years ago) link

I can see it now, Trump's like "I gotta distract from this health care thing. Think I'll fire Comey, that'll be typical no-one-cares late Friday afternoon stuff."

Ned Raggett, Friday, 24 March 2017 18:40 (seven years ago) link

Ryan getting lost in Siberia... Now there's a nice scene.

I have no idea why Comey would be needed at the WH, apart from Trump is bonkers and indeed, like Ned indicates, he'll need a decoy or is just and idiot.

Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 24 March 2017 18:42 (seven years ago) link
