This Senate hearing is fun:

Stunning exchange at Senate Intel:

Q: GOP Sen - ‘Why do #Russia active measures work?

A: [Clinton Watts]- “Because #Trump embraces them."

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 30 March 2017 16:26 (seven years ago) link

what's the over/under on the senate russian investigation committee pinning putin's motives to collude with obama/#crookedhillary on making 'real americans' doubt the legitimacy of our duly-elected president, mr. trump? only the POTUS stands between us and the soviets, kenyans, and feminazis!

reggie (qualmsley), Thursday, 30 March 2017 16:28 (seven years ago) link

His name is CLINTON Watts

It's so obvious!

I feel like whatever happened wrt Russia is less important than patching the holes (in terms of intelligence gathering, vetting of presidential candidates, education of the electorate, etc.) that allowed attempts of foreign interference to even have an impact in the first place. But on a more personal level, I just want Trump and everyone who supports him to suffer the consequences of being just the worst on every conceivable level. I'll take whatever little bit of justice we can get in that regard, in whatever form it chooses to manifest itself.

The article cited a 2002 story in the Hill in which Mike Pence said that “he never eats alone with a woman other than his wife and that he won’t attend events featuring alcohol without her by his side, either.”
Have any of the Clash of Civilizations people glommed on to a future where fundamentalist Christians and fundamentalist Muslims unite against the rest of us infidels?

I just want Trump and everyone who supports him to suffer the consequences of being just the worst on every conceivable level.

indeed. I don't see this leading to impeachment necessarily, but between this, getting smacked down by the courts, the hilariously botched attempt to deliver on an ACA replacement, the Republican infighting, his administration blowing all their credibility on day one, and his historically awful approval ratings, this is definitely on track to be the most incompetent and toothless administration in modern history

if trump stays true to form (and he does so 98% of the time) there's going to be a lot of churning of WH staff. he loves to fire people, pit people against one another, and create a storm of chaos with himself at the unruffled center. it's one of his primary tools for managing people who are much smarter than he is.

Not the first to do this -- I admit I love the logic of "We totally support him! But we don't want to be near him."

https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/03/30/us/politics/devin-nunes-intelligence-reports.html?_r=0&referer=

Several current American officials identified the White House officials as Ezra Cohen-Watnick, the senior director for intelligence at the National Security Council, and Michael Ellis, a lawyer who works on national security issues at the White House Counsel’s Office and formerly worked on the staff of the House Intelligence Committee.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Thursday, 30 March 2017 17:22 (seven years ago) link

lol....did Nunes seriously not think the sources would get out anyway

Neanderthal, Thursday, 30 March 2017 17:24 (seven years ago) link

after reading the article, it's fairly clear that the White House found an opportunity to make the multiple controversies subside, and leaned on Nunes to go to the press to muddy the waters. which didn't work as well as either of them hoped.

sounds like there may have indeed been unmasking issues (though none of that is verified for sure) but even so, hardly the bombshell Trump alleged and kind of proves they're interfering in the investigation.

Neanderthal, Thursday, 30 March 2017 17:29 (seven years ago) link

so obv Nunes briefed the WH on what it already knew making it pure theatre as suspected. yeah this will go well.

time to ramp up the recusal calls. other networks haven't gotten it yet but Schiff needs to be on this like Mark Sanchez on an offensive lineman's butt

Neanderthal, Thursday, 30 March 2017 17:35 (seven years ago) link

lol because of Nunes' repeat refusal to ever divulge his sources, his spokesman's reply to the NYT story a minute ago was "he will not confirm or deny" the sources, so now he's not able to actually say the story isn't credible or else he'd be going back on his word.

Also, re the two people leaking to Nunes:

https://twitter.com/christinawilkie/status/847504180772253696

Trump personally intervened to keep one of the two Nunes leakers, 30 yr old Ezra Cohen-Watnick, in the NSC, against NSA McMaster’s advice.

Rubio on the hacking charges today:

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2017/03/30/marco-rubio-was-targeted-by-russian-infowar-ex-fbi-agent-reveals.html

"In July of 2016, shortly after I announced I would seek reelection to the United States Senate, former members of my presidential campaign team, who had access to the information of my presidential campaign, were targeted by IP addresses with an unknown location within Russia," Rubio said. "That effort was unsuccessful. I would also inform the committee that within the last 24 hours, at 10:45 a.m. yesterday, a second attempt was made against former members of my presidential campaign team… again targeted from an IP address from an unknown location in Russia. That effort was also unsuccessful."

FOX: Were you paid by the Russians?

Oh and:

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/spicer-announces-new-information-intelligence-committees

White House press secretary Sean Spicer announced Thursday that it would invite the chairs and ranking members of the House and Senate Intelligence Committees to review information discovered “in the ordinary course of business” related to a request two weeks ago.

The announcement came minutes after the New York Times reported that two White House officials provided House Intelligence Committee Chair Devin Nunes (R-CA) with material that purportedly showed that information related to President Donald Trump and his associates was incidentally collected by U.S. intelligence officials.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 30 March 2017 19:42 (seven years ago) link
