dang team is looking so good... versatile offense, adequate pitching, and a home run machine. Baseball is so fun.

Seems like Villar is coming around a bit? He's getting back on base more often at least

so uh, this "Jett Bandy" guy

Evan R, Wednesday, 26 April 2017 20:31 (seven years ago) link

haha I just discovered that too, he really was a superhero over there

not sure what's going on in the game - Uecker said bloody nose (??) but then he walked that back. now looks like cramping, maybe? random mid-game drug test?

frogbs, Wednesday, 26 April 2017 20:35 (seven years ago) link

worst case a pulled hamstring maybe? Fact that he came out for the next inning is encouraging, but even if he only misses a week or so it's gonna be a shame to see his hot streak broken up like that

Evan R, Wednesday, 26 April 2017 20:39 (seven years ago) link

off day tomorrow, so that's good

think he's on the verge of breaking a bunch of April records if he stays hot for the remaining 3 games, so yeah it would suck if he has to miss time now.

frogbs, Wednesday, 26 April 2017 20:41 (seven years ago) link

Eric Thames left with left hamstring tightness. Counsell: "Not a big deal.

Evan R, Monday, 15 May 2017 16:32 (seven years ago) link

yeah, u don't get to play the Mets at their nadir all the time

Supercreditor (Dr Morbius), Monday, 15 May 2017 16:39 (seven years ago) link

4 over is definitely not where I thought we'd be in mid-May

frogbs, Monday, 15 May 2017 16:58 (seven years ago) link

nice of Sogard to go 4-for-4 the day after the Padres made his daughter cry

frogbs, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 20:33 (seven years ago) link

I know it doesn't fit Stearns' timeline, but I want to see us bring in an ace bullpen arm and just see what happens this season. We're too close not to just test the waters a little bit

Evan R, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 21:04 (seven years ago) link

first inning magic is real

NL Central or bust

Evan R, Thursday, 18 May 2017 22:56 (seven years ago) link

Chase Anderson...good????

frogbs, Thursday, 1 June 2017 20:23 (six years ago) link

Last night was the most frustrating game I've seen in quite a while. Nick Franklin at bats. And that bullpen. I really love what Stearns has done with the team and the rebuild so far, but his stubborn refusal to fortify the most obvious weak spots on this roster is really devastating. Not saying the team has to or should go all in this season, but his clear disinterest in taking advantage of the window that's opened has become maddening. How hard is it to just acquire (or even call up) a couple decent bullpen arms and see what happens?

Evan R, Tuesday, 6 June 2017 16:47 (six years ago) link

yeah as good as they've been in the 1st inning, they've been godawful in the 9th

frogbs, Tuesday, 6 June 2017 17:01 (six years ago) link

just curious - how are you all feeling about the brewers being buyers at the deadline, trading in some of that prospect depth to give it a go this season?

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 13 June 2017 15:36 (six years ago) link

if they're still over .500 in a few weeks I'd say go for it, at least grab a reliever or two. 86 wins could take this division.

frogbs, Tuesday, 13 June 2017 16:13 (six years ago) link

Wow team got hot again

I want them to be buyers. Not asking them to sell the farm, or even really give up anything in the system, but we gotta get at least one more dependable bullpen arm. Hoping we could take advantage of our low payroll and maybe buyout an expensive contract or something. I know it's too early to contend on paper but the window looks pretty open right now and I think we'll kick ourselves if we don't take advantage.

na (NA), Thursday, 22 June 2017 15:50 (six years ago) link

think it's always been obvious that his April power surge was mostly the league having not adjusted to him yet

that said, Thames is still a breakout star and one of the year's best stories, everyone knows about Harper and Trout already, plus Harper is polarizing and Trout has the personality of a wet napkin. plus Thames looks like a pro wrestler. not exactly a mystery why MLB would use him in their ads

in other news, wow @ that play by Arcia last night, also nice to see Knebel tie a (rather obscure) MLB record

I'm in the tv trailer for the brewers/marlins game, nbd

frogbs, Saturday, 1 July 2017 03:26 (six years ago) link

The brewers are a fun baseball team. Except for Braun. I hope he's injured forever.

Karl Malone, Saturday, 1 July 2017 05:10 (six years ago) link

uh....hope?

Evan R, Friday, 7 July 2017 13:20 (six years ago) link

8 games over. Nearest rivals are 1 game under. The all star break is next week. At what point is it alright to start hoping we make the playoffs?

Evan R, Friday, 7 July 2017 13:21 (six years ago) link

hopefully the front office is. I know it's not their "time" yet but they are unexpectedly hot in a year in which both the Cubs and Cardinals are underperforming. a situation like that isn't going to come along too often.

frogbs, Friday, 7 July 2017 13:37 (six years ago) link

Their BP playoff odds are up 24% in the last week, to 49%. Love to see them win the Central, fuck the Cubs for the rest of my life.

Supercreditor (Dr Morbius), Friday, 7 July 2017 14:31 (six years ago) link

Fangraphs still not optimistic but they've always been strangely bearish on the team. pre-season they were projected to have the worst record in baseball.

frogbs, Friday, 7 July 2017 14:47 (six years ago) link

Damn, looks like the team may be serious about going in

https://www.brewcrewball.com/2017/7/7/15934292/brewers-trade-rumors-sonny-gray-jose-quintana-starters

This is so exciting. This is our window, and we have the depth to make a real push. The team will likely be better in a year or two than they are now, but that's not guaranteed. What is almost certain is that the NL Central won't be so weak in a year or two.

Evan R, Friday, 7 July 2017 16:42 (six years ago) link

JESUS SAVES!!

frogbs, Saturday, 8 July 2017 02:43 (six years ago) link

gotta love the 4 run, 1 hit inning

frogbs, Saturday, 8 July 2017 02:44 (six years ago) link

At least they would get more than a playoff push rental with Quintana and Gray than they did with CC Sabathia a few years back.

earlnash, Saturday, 8 July 2017 04:18 (six years ago) link

fully hopping on the brewers bandwagon.

frogbs, Wednesday, 16 August 2017 21:26 (six years ago) link

The Pirates were 6-for-12 with RISP. The Brewers were 0-for-0. Brewers win, 7-6.
