Even though Cespedes was removed due to the score, TC brought up tendinitis for him, which isn’t great. Manageable, but not perfect.

The Mets drafted Edgardo Alfonzo's son, Daniel, in the 38th round of this year's Draft. He played at Bayside High School in Queens.

with harvey and montgomery on the mound, you know runs will be hard to come by

oh c'mon, you don't expect to offend a Mets fan with that concept?

Supercreditor (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 15 June 2017 20:44 (six years ago) link

I don't know if Alderson is taking questions at his SABR appearance... I'm trying to formulate 'polite' inquiries about Rosario/injuries.

I just read the article about the Seaver trade in the Post ... if this happened today, would people see it differently? These days, if a team knows it can't contend this year or the next, they almost have to trade a star who's signed to a team friendly contract.

So I guess it's really about how Mets management treated their biggest ever star like shit, rather than the trade itself?

NoTimeBeforeTime, Friday, 16 June 2017 13:30 (six years ago) link

He was The Franchise. It would be like the O's trading Cal Jr in his prime during a down season.

He was in the last year of his contract, right?

Supercreditor (Dr Morbius), Friday, 16 June 2017 14:19 (six years ago) link

only 6 home games left in the first half, that's daunting

Supercreditor (Dr Morbius), Friday, 16 June 2017 19:21 (six years ago) link

Nimmo and Reynolds are the moves.

Seaver signed a two year extension with a hometown discount instead of testing free agency. I guess you could point fingers at both sides there (Seaver for being naive, Mets management for taking advantage of him) but baseball fans as a whole were on the owners' side of the free agency issue, so Seaver was in a bad place, PR-wise, when his demands for a raise became public.

In the past decade, Johan Santana and Roy Halladay were franchise pitchers who were traded in their prime for players who never panned out. Of course they weren't inner circle HOF'ers like Seaver. But comparing these kinds of things across eras is (probably) pointless anyway -- every era needs to be considered within the context of its time.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Friday, 16 June 2017 20:21 (six years ago) link

I had forgotten most of the money details. It wasn't exactly a hometown discount -- the multimillion signings (Wayne Garland being the first, as the Post article says) began just after TS signed his 3-year deal.

Supercreditor (Dr Morbius), Friday, 16 June 2017 20:31 (six years ago) link

how a hitter like Reyes homers off a pitcher like Scherzer is a mystery of baseball

Supercreditor (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 17 June 2017 01:25 (six years ago) link

so after this, they face Strasburg tomorrow and Kershaw Monday. Clearing my throat to declare the season done if they don't split this series.

fuckin' Salas

I was at that dispiriting slog today. Time to cut Reyes and call up Rosario.

"Don't be surprised, be ready," whispers a 40-year-old Amed Rosario, leading the PCL with a .675/.822/1.445 line, to no one in particular.

tbh Cabrera at 2b has been ok so far (small sample size though). Can Walker play 3B/SS? His injury is the one that bums me out the most at the moment.

Jose Reyes moved into second on the Mets' all-time hits list last night with 1,420, passing Ed Kranepool. David Wright's record is 1,777.
