Can't think of much to articulate about this yet but I deffo like it, majorly for 'The Long Way Home' when it just *ascends* (deej said the same thing a while back I guess?)

i have zero use for anything I've heard from this guy before this, but i'll definitely be buying this album. after one listen i'd say it has some serious 'classic' potential for me.

i like (not being sarcastic) when ppl get so excited about a record that they start telling everyone what they are doing when they listen to it.

"I was eating slices of cheese and watching maury on mute ... this record is so dope!!!"

this record really lends itself to that kind of shit tho--its so consciously (esp the title piece) a 'soundtrack' joint that it makes the setting in which you listen to it really important.

max, Friday, 11 July 2008 20:21 (fifteen years ago) link

the first record i think of when i think about music doing that is 'right here, right now' by fatboy slim

deej, Friday, 11 July 2008 20:24 (fifteen years ago) link

Oh yeah totally - he's self-consciously gone for the Trans Europe Express/Tour De France big widescreen travelogue soundtrack atmosphere, right down to the panting noises. But unlike those albums there are no concrete references, it's so evocative while devoid of actual connotations that you can project it onto anything and it just *works*.

Starting to think this might turn out to be the album of the year.

i was trying to figure where Lindstrom got the inspiration for those double time arpeggios that lead into the slo-mo balearic groove in the third part of the album and then i gave Michael Shrieve - Transfer Station Blue another listen... strikingly similar.

san frandisco, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 16:46 (fifteen years ago) link

GUYS

i had another amazing listening to lindstrøm while travelling in the czech republic moment!!!

and it beats all the rest!!!

i was in a bus from cesky krumlov.. like just a couple of hours ago, and i was listening to "i feel space." i was thinking about that boards of canada video with the archival footage of the dude parachuting from really high, and about how it would make a much better video for IFS.

the sun was setting but it was kind of overcast with those glorious shafts of light coming through, all god-style. i look out the window and the sky is FULL of skydivers, at various heights, all descending to land in a field just up ahead!

it was GLORIOUS!!!!!!

the table is the table, Thursday, 17 July 2008 19:10 (fifteen years ago) link

Nevermind It's soulseekable now. Normally I'm not so eager, but this seems like something I'd very much want to actually buy when it comes out, which is when by the way? early august?

mehlt, Thursday, 17 July 2008 19:15 (fifteen years ago) link

Xpost, thanks for the offer though!

mehlt, Thursday, 17 July 2008 19:16 (fifteen years ago) link

x-post When's it coming out officially?

Neil S, Thursday, 17 July 2008 19:17 (fifteen years ago) link

August 18th. and by the way, all this stuff about him splitting up one long track into three is, according to him, utter BS. rumor started at SXSW.

the table is the table, Thursday, 17 July 2008 19:26 (fifteen years ago) link

what does that mean? that the CD will only have one track?

gr8080, Thursday, 17 July 2008 19:38 (fifteen years ago) link

yes and it will be beamed directly into your brain from a zeppelin that he will fly around the world

max, Thursday, 17 July 2008 19:44 (fifteen years ago) link

carne asada, Thursday, 17 July 2008 19:47 (fifteen years ago) link

no no no. my language was poor-- people originally thought that the record was going to be one long track, and that the label and him decided to split it into three. not that way at all-- he originally planned it as three tracks that flow into each other quite well.

the table is the table, Thursday, 17 July 2008 19:50 (fifteen years ago) link

phew i started freaking out there for a sec

gr8080, Thursday, 17 July 2008 19:51 (fifteen years ago) link

so glad he is putting this pernicious rumour to rest.

i can't find a torrent of this, got the promo/EP thing tho

blueski, Thursday, 17 July 2008 20:15 (fifteen years ago) link

Oh God, halfway through the title track, this is immense. Could this be (contemporary) disco's tubular bells?

p.s. e2-24 (While I feel the comparison is too easy, I do really think that Lindstrom is, and doing a great job, of balling up these grand epic pieces, like tubular bells, e2-e4, and perhaps even some works by Steve Reich, Philip Glass etc. and making something that would fit in well in the 70's but with a present day feel. Thus I mention it).

mehlt, Friday, 18 July 2008 02:18 (fifteen years ago) link

Actually, no, this doesn't feel very contemporary at all, come to think about it.

mehlt, Friday, 18 July 2008 02:21 (fifteen years ago) link

ok i like this too but lets chill a bit here

deej, Friday, 18 July 2008 02:22 (fifteen years ago) link
