I don't know anything about gambling though, so don't know how much money I'm going to make if I decide to bet $10 on Bronn (well, most likely $0).

Fred otm. Lots of stuff about how the royals are always fucking over the regular folks in the realm. It's called "Game" of Thrones. Maybe Dondarrion leads an uprising after Free Folk/Night's Watch, and random Northerners are forced to take on the White Walkers themselves?

if the showrunners have their say they'll probably make Lyanna Mormont the queen

should just be a disembodied set of boobs on the throne at the end imo
― Οὖτις, Thursday, 27 July 2017 18:27 (six years ago) link
Surprised at this expectancy that the show ends with the throne intact with a specific character on it. Surely its permanent destruction followed by a...Presidential election...is the more satisfying outcome.

Euron seems like a good antagonist. better to have a cackling glam pirate than a dinner table sadist like ramsay.

cautiously agree with this so far
― gbx, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 02:38
Vehemently disagree. At the the last fight I was praying please just kill this tedious Kaiser Chiefs member quickly.
I know the show has had low points before and it was never going to completely recover but I have a bad feeling it's not going right itself again. Feel like it hit a new low.
Quite enjoyed the Sam, Jorah and Broadbent stuff though.
Feel a little annoyed that Dany's story will never pay off. She never got interesting and her settings were usually the least interesting part. Would be great if Varys kills her.
My prefferred ending: everyone goes into the final battle then it cuts away to Sam bonking Gilly and writing his own Kama Sutra for 6 episodes, then GRR Martin pops up and says "wait for my version, available at all good bookstores".

Dany survives and will request of Varys and Tyrion that they invent something called "democracy" - a series of elections ensue, followed by footage of Trump's inauguration, and then

Anybody here really like Dany's scenes? I think her only interesting things was how she changed her relationship with Drogo and the dothraki tribe.

I love Clarke, and think the Khaleesi's aloofness works just fine, but I get why people would disagree. Her attendant and Greyworm are similarly stilted.
― Eallach mhór an duine leisg (dowd), Saturday, 29 July 2017 05:26 (six years ago) link
In retrospect I'm disappointed that they took one of my favorite characters, Tyrion, and exiled him to the land of bad writing, acting, and set design. He even explicitly references his plight in that one scene where he tries to get them to drink and tell a funny story
― Karl Malone, Saturday, 29 July 2017 05:32 (six years ago) link
Haven't read the books but I'm assuming it's partly martin's fault too
it's Littlefinger I want stabbed but only bcz he is so good at creeping me out merely BEING on camera let alone doing anything actually creepy
― Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 29 July 2017 05:43 (six years ago) link
yeah Gillen is probably the best actor in the whole ensemble tbh, he's had to sell a ton of dodgy dialogue
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Saturday, 29 July 2017 05:45 (six years ago) link
I loved Littlefinger until the most recent episode. I mean he was always a manipulative dick, but now it's blatant and I'm fed up with his scenes glowering in the corner.
― Stoop Crone (Trayce), Saturday, 29 July 2017 06:44 (six years ago) link
I kinda think they sold Littlefinger out when they had him deliver Sansa to Ramsay. That never made sense for the character, it undercut his arc, and he hasn't been able to really do anything since then.

tbf it is a thankless role, littlefinger on the show is what happens when you don't trust your audience to get subtlety. he's a stage whisper incarnate.
― Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 29 July 2017 10:22 (six years ago) link
now that I think about it the show does seem to have been winnowed down to focus on all the worst actors

i like onion knight as an actor. varys as well. tyrion is p good. cersei. dunno if i'm forgetting about anyone in that list.

Jim Broadbent ofc, but we haven't seen much of him

hound is decent too and the dondaryon types always seem good when on screen.
they've definitely killed off some really great actors, charles dance, michael mcelhatton. i saw stephen dillane (stannis) in faith healer at donmar warehouse last year and he was mindblowingly good. that sort of gravitas is hard to replace.
― Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Saturday, 29 July 2017 10:29 (six years ago) link
yeah I guess there a few other peripheral types (Diana Rigg too) but it's the fact that you've got Emilia Clarke, Kit Harrington, Sophie Turner, etc front and centre. Even Maisie Williams, who was good as a precocious kid, rings false to me now
― Number None, Saturday, 29 July 2017 10:32 (six years ago) link
yep, agreed. i was always surprised it was rob stark that was killed off just because kit harrington is such a bad actor, but obv that was to do with the books.
― Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Saturday, 29 July 2017 10:34 (six years ago) link
Michelle Fairley was among the best of them, too. There's def something to the "they killed off 90% of the good actors" argument
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Saturday, 29 July 2017 13:10 (six years ago) link
the older ppl dying and the younger ones sticking around isn't some kind of grievous error tho, it's the point of the story. presumably there are some good young actors out there but i imagine they are harder to find than good middle aged ones
― Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 29 July 2017 13:30 (six years ago) link
not to mention that they cast a lot of the younger actors when they were children. arya and bran were perfect in the first couple seasons, but it's hard to predict how they'll develop
― Many men scream death (voodoo chili), Saturday, 29 July 2017 13:44 (six years ago) link
well, I'm not saying it's the showrunners' fault per se but that is the reality of this tv programme now. And it's the worse for it
― Number None, Saturday, 29 July 2017 13:51 (six years ago) link
I think Gillen is good, I've liked him in a few things, but never watched the other shows he was a regular in. His sparring with Varys, all the Lysa stuff and revealing his feelings to Sansa was all great I think.
I'm not sure how much we can blame the actors for the recent performances when everything is suffering. There's only so much they can do. Tyrion used to be one of the major reasons to watch.
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Saturday, 29 July 2017 14:02 (six years ago) link
Yeah, so many of the surviving characters feel like plot cogs first and distinct personalities a distant second now. It's tough to render that into a compelling performance.
