I get the sense that Indira Varma might actually be the most badly-used actor in the series but it's difficult to tell seeing as literally everything about her character and the way it's been written/directed has been entirely one-note and terrible. Superb last scene for her though, mostly down to Cersei, but what was the point of the whole Dorne plotline if that's the end of it? Either that or the showrunners finally admitted it was a turkey and did the decent thing.

The show's treatment of its non-white characters in general has been woeful, not necessarily their fates or whatever but just the sheer laziness at not bothering to give them more than one dimension. The actors playing Missandei and Grey Worm are probably better than the material allows as well.

More generally there's something faintly silly about the way in which the show has been ripping through its deadwood characters. The beginning of this season and the end of the last have been like Transformers The Movie or some shit. At least Diana Rigg got a good send-off (and the fact that the Lannisters now control the food supply, with Winterfell running out, is going to be significant).

All of which sounds like I didn't enjoy that episode but I really did, but then I've always viewed it as being hugely entertaining schlocky bollocks and don't really care whether it mirrors the author's vision or whatever.

all of that stuff was so terrible. i mean i get it's just jolly scene setting and i can forgive it but still so cringey.

it's like they spent five mins answering the question "what might the onion knight say to missandei, if they found themselves having some small talk"

the rest of the series should be Jon running into the characters he hasn't shared the screen with yet and trying to tell them about the army of the dead. Then everyone dies.

Then subsequent teasing of a mission where Dany must ride out on a dragon and destroy 8/8 enemy boats

imo talking to everyone in town is like a JRPG, but destroying 8/8 enemy boats is more like a western RPG. maybe the writers were trying to symbolize the meeting of essos and westeros in the show

The dialogue is so lazy now in this last episode; the characters kept using anachronistic phrases (the last I remember was "failure of imagination") that made it seem like the writers aren't putting much effort anymore.

they're still at winterfell. It was one of the Vale Lords who got schooled by Sansa re: leather linings on the breastplates.

This thread is like a GoT bucket brigade where everyone fills in each other with the details they missed while they were tweeting or taking a piss break during the episode.

really enjoyed bran's return. how could we string out a few eps of familial awkwardness if they didn't begin the reunion with him telling his sister "hi - btw i lack all self-awareness and am insane now. also i think you're sexy"

I understand it's a complicated web of characters and elements but sometimes it's funny to see someone notice that those particular trees have faces for the first time in 7 seasons, then the person who explains it has their own question about the whereabouts of characters that were in the episode.
