I hope not. Recently saw gameplay trailers for a new Lord Of The Rings game complete with dialogue determined to make the experience mundane. Made me sad even after all the insane merchandising LotR has had.

Yeah is it concievable they could go as fast as planes? In which case the flight would've taken 5-6 hours, based on GRRM saying Westeros is about the size of South America. There have been far more egregious plot holes.

Maybe they exude a forcefield that would protect the rider from the resulting G Force or whatever you call the pressure resulting from air hitting you in the face at that speed.

& I thought that everybody up to thhe invention of the steam train thought that there were limits to how fast you could travel healthily.

People are speculating that GRRM is pretty cold on what's happening this season. Probably spending all his time revising to make sure all character mileage and travel expenses are documented.

No, it's not inconceivable. But they would have to show it. Anything is possible if we just say 'a wizard did it'. But that makes a worse show.

We're not saying 'a wizard dd it'. We're saying, 'these dragons, which have already been shown as being able to fly quite fast, can fly really fast'.

Did we ever get any hint at how fast the ravens travel? Messages sent by Raven always seemed to get around pretty fast. I would assume a dragon is faster.

Damn I forgot about the raven having to get to Dragonstone too. I contend a dragon would travel much faster than a raven though.

I think it was dumb, but I think it can be waved away just about convincingly. And I enjoy wasting time figuring out the speed of fictional animals and stuff. Other things bother me far more about GoT at the moment, eg terrible dialogue and really weird pacing.

yeah, all the logistics of these things can be explained away and I don't think the show necessarily has to explain it to the viewer.

What bothers me way more is a bunch of characters who are supposed to be smart making a series of dumb decisions just so the show can introduce an ice dragon. This is the kind of stuff that did not happen in seasons 1-4.

I mean, above all my issue is that the dialogue has gotten fucking awful, or I've only just started noticing that it's awful. The opening 10 mins of Sunday's ep were painful.

probably just remaking the same points but i think point is the show taught us to care about these minutiae for 4-5 seasons then told us to piss in the wind for the last 2

xp i have no idea tbh but the guy who finished those is decent in his own right at least. jokes aside i am sure they would get someone passable in.

re: the dragons, it also feels like HBO paid $20 million for a dragon model they can insert to any scene at will and the people who did it for them said "if you think that's cool, check out this skin that makes it look like an ice dragon - we just need to flip this switch" and HBO said cool how can we get this onto the show.

looking on the bright side, I fucking love the Beric actor's voice so much. It's a kind of voice you don't hear onscreen anymore; he sounds like he could be delivering the omens in some late Hammer or Tigon pastoral horror film.

yeah Beric's voice is pretty awesome, hope he hangs onto that one life for awhile.

given that there's not much logic or consistency with accents on the show it's lame when irish actors can't use their own accents (roose the only exception i think?) but funny that beric & davos have two of the best accents

Davos' Geordie twang is excellent, but makes zero sense as every other poor King's Landinger has a cockney-ish accent.

that scene posted above is really good but also reminds me that those were/are two of the best actors on the show--and most of the younger cast really falls flat for me. i can't remember if i liked the actor who played robb or not. i know it was necessary but they killed off so many of the best actors: charles dance, diana rigg, the guy who played stannis, even oberyn and joffrey! that kid was great.

of course this sort of thing would matter far less if the plotting/narrative was more satisfying.

the characters that i enjoy at this point are basically the hound and davos. cersei was great until recently but it feels like her arc ended last season and now she's just big boss.

Is the only reason they are wrapping things up so quickly that they don't want to have to renegotiate contracts? Seems like this show would have benefited from another season or two.

is s2 of Fortitude any good? I liked s1 but felt it might have been better off as a mini.
