o in that case since its unprovable i wade in fearlessly and say battier is better than kobe

Be fair: Battier is good, but Kobe is one of the best 20 -- maybe even 15 -- players in the league.

Indeed.

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 14 May 2009 00:58 (fifteen years ago) link

agreed tho kobe is totally top 20 material when he asserts himself

ice cr?m, Thursday, 14 May 2009 01:01 (fifteen years ago) link

LOL. Yeah, he's pretty good.

I'll be relying on this thread for periodic game updates, since I'm forced to watch a toxic stew of True Jackson, VP and iCarly with my daughter.

Associated Press

INDIANAPOLIS -- Danny Granger told a storybook tale of how he learned he'd been selected the NBA's Most Improved Player.

The Indiana Pacers star offered a picturesque image of riding in a gondola in Venice, Italy, with one hand in the water and the wind blowing through his hair.

Much of that was indeed a story -- he was in Venice, but in his hotel room instead of a boat when he heard the news. Upon coming clean at a news conference on Tuesday, those in the room broke into laughter.

"I can honestly say it really did come as a surprise," he said. "I really had it out of my mind for a while. I was on vacation, enjoying Italy, and all of a sudden, I'm winning the award."

I'm in Hong Kong right now and I get by through justin.tv and zomse.com; you can always find some dude streaming the game, even if it's in Spanish. Always annoying when the NBA cops force them to shut off the stream when it's 40 seconds left to play in the fourth quarter, though.

do they show the yao 'eat the head' commercial on tv over there

Dr. Phil, Thursday, 14 May 2009 01:40 (fifteen years ago) link

haha no, for some weird licensing reason whenever a local TV station shows a game, they just show the "Where will amazing happen" commercials over...and over...and over...

Can't stop the dancing chickens (dyao), Thursday, 14 May 2009 01:43 (fifteen years ago) link

kobe certainly not the best player

stfu

Haha yeah that was what I was thinking about when the C's came back the other night - if you're down 15 in the 4th but you're playing at home, anything can happen

Can't stop the dancing chickens (dyao), Thursday, 14 May 2009 04:03 (fifteen years ago) link

Someone pointed out to me the incredibly appropriate and great fact that Kobe will have to play at least two games in Denver for the WCF

Dr. Phil, Thursday, 14 May 2009 04:37 (fifteen years ago) link

but srsly carmelo will never reach peak kobe status - he has more paul pierce one step removed from mvp style potential - still carmelo is improving and kobe is declining so it wont be long before that statement is true indeed

Report: Woman dated Banks before Nowitzki

Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki was not the first professional athlete to have a relationship with Cristal Taylor, The Dallas Morning News reported Wednesday.

Tony Banks, a former NFL quarterback, told The News that Taylor tried to turn his life upside down in 1997.

"This is unbelievable," Banks told The News. "This is wild. I can't believe it's the same chick."

I will gladly watch Melo take a jumper over Kobe taking a jumper - there's something about Kobe's form that bugs me, something not quite right.

Melo being Paul Pierce on step removed is a very good descript - both big guys with ropey limbs who always seems to be one step quicker than the guys guarding them. xp

The Nuggets should rename the Pepsi Center to The Lodge and Spa at Cordillera

kobe along w/a lot of big scorers (you joe johnson) has fallen in love w/the fade away - to a certain extent because hes so good at hitting tough shots kobe takes too many - hes obv a v efficient player especially considering the volume hes dealing in - but i think he could prob do better

ice cr?m, Thursday, 14 May 2009 05:16 (fifteen years ago) link

barkley didn't say melo is better than kobe

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 14 May 2009 05:29 (fifteen years ago) link

Guys guys I don't care what Charles said about Melo and Kobe. I just want to know how few pushups he was able to do.

Alex in SF, Thursday, 14 May 2009 12:46 (fifteen years ago) link

barkley didn't say melo is better than kobe

yeah he did at halftime. better shooter anyway, same shit. stfu

he managed like 18 real pushups before he started doing fake half-assed ones

Dr. Phil, Thursday, 14 May 2009 13:30 (fifteen years ago) link

18 is not bad for a huge fat man

ice cr?m, Thursday, 14 May 2009 13:32 (fifteen years ago) link

she did 28 ;)

Chuck's pushup form only slightly better than his golf swing

Can't stop the dancing chickens (dyao), Thursday, 14 May 2009 14:09 (fifteen years ago) link

he said lebron is #1, kobe is right behind him...and that melo is the best "pure scorer".

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 14 May 2009 14:16 (fifteen years ago) link

i totally agree w/charles barkley when he says "carmelo is better than kobe"

ice cr?m, Thursday, 14 May 2009 14:20 (fifteen years ago) link

that's not what he said. he said caramello is better than kobe. cause like he's a fattey ya see.

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 14 May 2009 14:37 (fifteen years ago) link

o in that case since its unprovable i wade in fearlessly and say battier is better than kobe

I almost put my fist through the monitor. I have hated Battier for the better part of a decade.

Be fair: Battier is good, but Kobe is one of the best 20 -- maybe even 15 -- players in the league.

Name 14 players better than Kobe. Go ahead. You MAY be able to name 3. Maybe.

Lakers in 6 is a good call, both for Houston, and then again for Denver.

Geez Lakers fans have a sense of humor.

Totally took it that way, my man. Curious - I have three players in mind that I'd consider in the "best in the league" discussion, along with Kobe - who do you think they are? I'll be honest.

BLAM, what kinda Angelenos are Clips fans? (genuinely curious)

As far as I am able to surmise, there are not a lot, and those that are fans are fans because they want to be able to see NBA games without paying Lakers prices. Another group might be those that are a little contrarian, a la Mets fans, and yet a third might just prefer the red, white and blue instead of purple and gold color palates.

It was the contrarian element about which I was making that analogy. I went to school in the NYC area, and am WELL aware of the Mets large and vocal fan base.

Not following the NBA much this year, but . . . LJ, D. Wade, and . . . Hmm. Hard after that. I'm bias toward the significance of big-men, but I'm not sure who I'd put into the last slot of the Top Four. Also, I'm not sure how I'd rank them. Obv., Bryant is very -- very -- good.

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 14 May 2009 15:37 (fifteen years ago) link

Is Dwight Howard at that level yet? Yao Ming seems too fragile. Just not sure.

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 14 May 2009 15:39 (fifteen years ago) link

1 lebron
2 paul
3 wade
4 howard
5 who the fuck cares

ice cr?m, Thursday, 14 May 2009 15:45 (fifteen years ago) link

I was actually thinking LBJ, Howard, and Chris Paul. You give me them, kobe, and a power forward who can play defense, and I'm taking the championship 5 straight.

D Wade is great, but his defense is suspect to me. Yao is good, but I agree on the fragility assessment.
