I like both these moves, though obviously I hope there's a few more to come. as for Gallardo...he comes super cheap and I think there is some precedent for struggling pitchers finding renewed success with their old teams - Jeffress was a total bust in Texas last year, but he did well in Milwaukee

Stearns' track record is good enough at this point that I give even his most suspect decisions the benefit of the doubt. He doesn't fall for pricey, shiny objects the way Melvin used to.

The implicit messaging in these moves is "we're NOT contending, everybody chill out," which is a little disappointing, but I do like that they leave open the option of making bigger moves if the window opens.
