Their breakfast sandwiches use the same potato bun as their hamburgers. Not ideal imho

Lots of talk about stock price itt; stock now trading at less than half its peak, slightly below IPO value. Sort of strange because I do feel like it's kind of ubiquitous now, I was in a mall in Scottsdale and I saw one! Maybe people thought it could be much bigger and still profitable and they were just wrong?

There is apparently a counterfeit Shake Shack in Tehran, which is intriguing.

There was a lot of talk about how it was way overvalued when it first started trading and it couldn't hit the growth needed to justify the valuation. Also, just anecdotally, yes, it is ubiquitious now, and it also seems unspecial and rarely super busy the way the old locations used to be. My whole theory about it to begin with (which seems to have proved correct) is that it was the kind of business that needed excitement and scarcity to thrive, like it was this "special treat" thing that people would go out of their way to stand in line for. Once it's everywhere, it loses that excitement, and then it doesn't really offer everyday foods you can eat for lunch at work and not feel like shit after.

Is anyone familiar w/ this place BurgerFi? Visiting family in Michigan and tried it, seems to be a Shack knockoff, similar design scheme (but w logo branded into top bun). Burger was alright. Good fries. They put sprinkles in my daughter's shake which I though was weird.
Biggest + was two veggie burger options (as opposed to the Shack's mere portobello choice) for my kids—a house made patty and one made by Beyond Meat—the pricey but convincing fake meat we sometimes use at home.....

i like eating shake shack for lunch. not heavy at all for a burger and for like $6 it's actually one of the cheapest things you can eat in manhattan. and if you use the app to order you can get in and out in like 2 mins.

I had the new chicken club thing a few weeks ago and thought it was delicious, that niman ranch bacon is tasty. But then tonight i had a burger at the fulton center location and it wasn't even good. And they fucked up my order, and the orders of the two guys who came to the pickup window at the same time as me. McDonald's double quarter pounder with cheese is probably half the price of the double shackburger and better imo.

Still love the chicken shak, but overall I like this place less each time I go. I was at the one in Hudson Yards after being stuck in the mall due to hard rain and having no other kid-friendly option. Cramped, crowded, miserable experience, touch screens that didn't work, inexplicably long wait for food, people behind the counter refused to give us trays to eat off of for some reason, and the burger and fries are just not that good. Generally speaking I find all the locations I've been to have been really uncomfortable places to sit and that the overall experience is just not pleasant.

A few months ago, I walked by a Shake Shack in suburban LA that was a completely empty at prime dinner time.
I've still only been to the OG like 15 years ago when it was at MSP/Flatiron and you had to wait in line for way too long. Can't even remember if it was any good or not.
― Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Tuesday, 28 May 2019 21:08 (four years ago) link
man alive OTMThe longer each location is open, the more oily and greasy and disgusting the interior becomes, the effect of which is just compounded by the hoi pilloi clamoring for napkins and soda cups and annoyed at the wait for their food
― calstars, Tuesday, 28 May 2019 23:49 (four years ago) link
I was a skeptic from the beginning as this thread shows, but always basically liked this place -- I'm with man alive, though, the last couple of times I've had their burger, it was just... not that great. Not bad! But not great. In particular, this from man alive
it was the kind of business that needed excitement and scarcity to thrive, like it was this "special treat" thing that people would go out of their way to stand in line for. Once it's everywhere, it loses that excitement
feels right to me, I enjoyed it more when they didn't have it in my local mall and it was an "I can have this because I'm traveling" treat.
Or maybe the food has actually gotten worse, which is not an unreasonable thing to expect for a rapidly expanding chain.
The shakes are still good.

I love Shake Shack and In'n'Out, but can't even imagine going to mobbed hamburger restaurants at this moment
― Dan S, Monday, 7 December 2020 03:04 (three years ago) link
I mean, you order on the app, you pay on advance with your credit card, you're in there picking up the stuff for like 2 minutes, there's an indoor mask mandate where I live. If it were actually mobbed I might feel different but there were like four people in there.
