the moment eugene was revealed to be a fraud was the moment i realised this show was never going to progress beyond a few dozen people forever refusing to just neck themselves. and then the s7 (?) opener was so fucking hamfisted i didn’t even care enough to be angry. apparently it’s still all about negan and his token bad guy routine.

There are some genuinely great episodes but it's been a long while since the last one

groovypanda, Sunday, 28 January 2018 07:02 (six years ago) link

I somehow pushed on through season 7 but still haven't generated enough enthusiasm to start season 8.

four weeks pass...

never get to hear "CORALLLLLL!!!!!" again.

i didn't think anything could be as maddening and dumb as last season but this show is really trying to prove me wrong.

Curious if the changeout of Scott Gimple as showrunner is due to the widespread dissatisfaction with the last few seasons of the show.

My own interest is gauged by the use of the Comcast 'fwd 5 minutes' remote option, and I've been using it often last season and this one. Thought I was completely done, post-Glen demise, but instead I'm just zipping through each episode in 5-10 minutes to keep current.

christ is this thing still going

NEW CHIMP THREAT (bizarro gazzara), Monday, 26 February 2018 15:43 (six years ago) link

yep, the reports of the death of TV's Golden Age were greatly exaggerated and premature!

calzino, Monday, 26 February 2018 15:50 (six years ago) link

i can't really defend anything about it anymore. there is no defense. season 6 is still my favorite season though. and that's longer than a lot of people lasted as far as watching the thing. i only care about carol and rosita and michonne. everyone else can die.

scott seward, Monday, 26 February 2018 16:46 (six years ago) link

death of carl was actually pretty well done i just don't really care at this late date. we all gotta go sometime.

scott seward, Monday, 26 February 2018 16:47 (six years ago) link

i feel bad for danai gurira that she's still bound to this show after delivering such a boundlessly charismatic performance in black panther, hopefully she can get killed off soon and go on to the bigger and better things she absolutely deserves

NEW CHIMP THREAT (bizarro gazzara), Monday, 26 February 2018 16:49 (six years ago) link

she is totally a movie star. this is true. the fact that she was so amazing on this show for so long and didn't become a movie star sooner is crazy.

scott seward, Monday, 26 February 2018 17:08 (six years ago) link

one month passes...

it's kinda like if the Lost finale was two seasons long.

scott seward, Thursday, 5 April 2018 16:24 (six years ago) link

i have the last three dvr'd I pretty much just hate watch this now in hopes that they all die and it will be over.

it's all you can do really.

scott seward, Thursday, 5 April 2018 16:32 (six years ago) link

i suggest you stop watching. I hate watched up through neegan and couldnt take it any more and ive had all that time back in my life it feels great.

I am pretty sure I am done, i haven't watched any new episodes since it's been back on this year and I heard I am not missing anything.

Yerac, Thursday, 5 April 2018 17:02 (six years ago) link

i watched the whole series with my kid and he wants to keep watching every week so i'm just blaming him. i'm getting to a zen-like thing with it where i just don't care about anything that happens. it just washes over me. when the old lady shows up and trades gardening tips for records i....i don't really know what i felt.

scott seward, Thursday, 5 April 2018 17:14 (six years ago) link

Them spending 3 season to cover the time span of 1-2 months is what I can't deal with. Nothing ever happens.

Yerac, Thursday, 5 April 2018 17:19 (six years ago) link

Going back to the first season, I really miss how campy it used to be.

Yerac, Thursday, 5 April 2018 17:21 (six years ago) link

sometimes i wish shane were around to kick ass instead of rick.

scott seward, Thursday, 5 April 2018 17:23 (six years ago) link

the last two episodes had michonne and rosita just standing around doing nothing. just standing there. which is a crime.

scott seward, Thursday, 5 April 2018 17:24 (six years ago) link

Yeah, everyone is just sweating, shooting stuff and waiting for Maggie to start showing. So many wasted opportunities.

Yerac, Thursday, 5 April 2018 17:27 (six years ago) link

jeez this thing has over 100 episodes. i mean that makes perfect sense, but i gave up very early because i couldn't even imagine finishing the season. like how i quit Sons of Anarchy with one episode left in season 3.

omar little, Thursday, 5 April 2018 17:29 (six years ago) link

all these shows just drag on forever and almost every single one doesn't earn it.

omar little, Thursday, 5 April 2018 17:30 (six years ago) link

I watched all of True Blood except for the last two episodes.

Yerac, Thursday, 5 April 2018 17:30 (six years ago) link

haha

they call me melo gelo (Spottie), Thursday, 5 April 2018 17:34 (six years ago) link

Sometimes I think about watching those last two episodes.

Yerac, Thursday, 5 April 2018 17:35 (six years ago) link

every time they talk about being low on food i keep thinking about how half of virginia is made of walmart and sam's club. they would never be low on food. but in their hellish world they aren't allowed to shop in the real world. they have to forage cans from dusty gas stations.

scott seward, Thursday, 5 April 2018 17:40 (six years ago) link

All the big superstores have helicopters crashed on the roof waiting to cave it in.

Yerac, Thursday, 5 April 2018 17:47 (six years ago) link

that was the ONE big store they were allowed to shop in. the one where the roof caved in. that put them off big stores filled with food for good.

scott seward, Thursday, 5 April 2018 17:47 (six years ago) link

i always remember that one nice suburban street where carl and rick and michonne hung out and carl ate all the pudding. man, you could have lived there for a year. nothing was touched. and that was just one neighborhood. they never look for nice neighborhoods. they like dusty empty auto parts stores the best.

scott seward, Thursday, 5 April 2018 17:50 (six years ago) link

just find a nice gated community why are they so dumb, go live on a little island or something.

they call me melo gelo (Spottie), Thursday, 5 April 2018 17:51 (six years ago) link

They are from Georgia after all. They like those sort of thangs.

Yerac, Thursday, 5 April 2018 17:52 (six years ago) link

there are quite literally THOUSANDS of places with lots of food and good lockable doors. hotels, jails, schools, etc. you wouldn't go hungry for a very long time. everyone's dead for pete's sake.

scott seward, Thursday, 5 April 2018 18:01 (six years ago) link

Haven't watched this show in so long I don't know the last season I saw, but I always thought it would be smart if they rode bicycles instead of walking everywhere. Bicycles are fast, cheap, light and everywhere. Bikes and guns, if they just went to some abandoned subdivision in GA they'd be awash in both on no time.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 5 April 2018 20:24 (six years ago) link

nothing in the show makes any sense. there are totally mountains in america. places where NOBODY could get to you. places where you could see people coming a mile away. but, in general, not going to the fancy neighborhoods to make camp makes less than no sense. they always have the best stuff.

scott seward, Thursday, 5 April 2018 20:40 (six years ago) link

beyond that though, the last two seasons are all about the torture of having negan around forever instead of killing him immediately which is what any sensible person would have done. they had tons of opportunities to kill him and its just kind of cruel to prolong the badness for that long. it's just dumb. it is kinda like the writers are writing the show for a really dumb audience and it wasn't like that when the show was worth watching. i mean everyone still did lots of dumb shit back then but people tend to do a lot of dumb shit. so, it made more sense then.

scott seward, Thursday, 5 April 2018 20:46 (six years ago) link

SPOILER WARNING if anyone cares

otm, when i stopped watching around s6/7 it was 100% an ironing show

karl wallogina (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 6 April 2018 00:56 (six years ago) link

The show might as well be a video game at this point. A really dreary, video game.

Yerac, Friday, 6 April 2018 01:09 (six years ago) link

I start laughing every time there are random pained, thoughtful face montages.

Yerac, Friday, 6 April 2018 01:11 (six years ago) link

A house down the street from me has been flying a Walking Dead flag for years now.

President Keyes, Friday, 6 April 2018 01:20 (six years ago) link

I don't really know how I feel about that.

Yerac, Friday, 6 April 2018 01:31 (six years ago) link

i liked this show but it's definitely just going by the numbers at this point and it seems that they're just content to have a zombie television series. i'm looking forward to potential expansion beyond the influences of the show and i hope it doesn't doesn't descend into utterly lame plot devices.

three weeks pass...

Fear The Walking Dead is so much better than its parent show now it's not even funny.

groovypanda, Thursday, 3 May 2018 08:04 (six years ago) link

It's a little funny, because the only thing I've heard about that one is that it's not very good, either.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 3 May 2018 12:39 (six years ago) link

When exactly did Fear the Walking Dead get better? I bailed at episode 1 of season 3.

Yerac, Thursday, 3 May 2018 12:55 (six years ago) link

Episode 2 onwards

groovypanda, Thursday, 3 May 2018 13:32 (six years ago) link

First two seasons were pretty ropey but season 3 was a marked improvement and season 4 has been pretty good so far.

It's no Wire obviously but is much, much better than TWD and actually has some characters I care about.

groovypanda, Thursday, 3 May 2018 13:35 (six years ago) link

i got through the first season and maybe watched one or two of season two and i'd had it.
