Most shocking thing in that first quarter was Billups missing two free throws. What the hell?

all dues must be paid in full, but the clips will just eat 3 years of griffin's career. but it was gonna be grim there for some rookie, no matter what.

Aimless, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 02:13 (fifteen years ago) link

rookie contract takes 5 years to play out fully - 2 years min

Nothing pleases me more than watching Billups hit crunchtime 3's

This gonna be a good series

carne asada, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 03:45 (fifteen years ago) link

tragic end for nuggz

damn that was the game to steal at staples.

Both teams played hard

carne asada, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 03:54 (fifteen years ago) link

Both Bryant and Anthony had awesome games both ends of the court.

I like how Jackson used Bryant/Ariza on Billups and Fisher on Jones.

OTOH Gasol is a fucking mystery sometimes.

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 03:59 (fifteen years ago) link

Jackson touching on gasol not getting the ball down low

missed the game.

dope game, kobe vs melo was a treat. both guys were going so hard

man see united (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 05:33 (fifteen years ago) link

as much as the clippers suck griffin gets to go to LA - not exactly a horrible deal - also they could conceivably be mediocre in his tenure instead of horrifically bad - a small consolation but it's something - also, what about him pulling an eli manning and going "no i refuse to play for the lousy ass clippers sorry" - do nba players have that kind of leverage? im not even sure but he should think about it

oj da hoosman (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 08:43 (fifteen years ago) link

Kobe did that shit!

a short guy with a lot of power (Clay), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 09:04 (fifteen years ago) link

Q: has carmelo made "the leap" during this year's playoffs?

a short guy with a lot of power (Clay), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 09:09 (fifteen years ago) link

no - he's not even their most important player

oj da hoosman (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 09:15 (fifteen years ago) link

He's absolutely not, no! Chauncey's made a huge claim this year to being way more important than probably anybody ever imagined. I'm just sayin', melo's made a jump this spring that I never thought he'd ever make: elite scorer, decent defender, major part of a great team.

a short guy with a lot of power (Clay), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 11:58 (fifteen years ago) link

He looks a lot fitter to me.

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 12:23 (fifteen years ago) link

Although he might just be wearing a smaller uniform.

Last night was the best game I've ever seen the dude play. I was impressed.

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 12:26 (fifteen years ago) link

melo had nagging injuries all year and never got healthy and on track til the last quarter of the season now he killin it - having chauncy around to formalize the offense is def a big help to him - shot selection much better

btw putting kobe on chauncey was a super smart move by phil - much better match up for the lakers than kobe/melo cause melo is so big

Get a life you owned motherfuckers. (ice cr?m), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 12:37 (fifteen years ago) link

It's the best matchup for Kobe, since guarding Melo for an entire game would be too wearing. I like that Phil put Kobe on Melo at the end of the half/game though. Kobe doesn't seem to have lost a step defensively to me.

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 13:49 (fifteen years ago) link

kobe was def v good on D last nite - he can still crank it up - i just dont think he has the day in day out intensity he used too - but if he can do that for the whole series w/o wearing down who gives a fuck

Get a life you owned motherfuckers. (ice cr?m), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 13:59 (fifteen years ago) link

also, what about him pulling an eli manning and going "no i refuse to play for the lousy ass clippers sorry" - do nba players have that kind of leverage? im not even sure but he should think about it

Absolutely - see Stevie Franchise and Kobe

Can't stop the dancing chickens (dyao), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 14:09 (fifteen years ago) link

kobe iirc correctly was going to be traded all along and the hornets drafted him for the lakers in one of those wonderfully convoluted draft day maneuvers beloved by trivia people everywhere - francis tho def - when he was drafted rookie contracts/rights werent structured the way they are now and he may have had more leverage than todays class - i dont recall the particularities

Get a life you owned motherfuckers. (ice cr?m), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 14:16 (fifteen years ago) link

The Clips aren't even that bad on paper - Baron Davis, Eric Gordon, Marcus Camby... but maybe that's cause their roster looks like it was assembled by a fantasy basketball player. Dunleavy's a terrible coach, though, and they don't really have a head-straightener outside of Davis, and lord knows there's a lot of players on that team who need it.

Can't stop the dancing chickens (dyao), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 14:20 (fifteen years ago) link

camby & davis are wicked injury prone and getting old too

Get a life you owned motherfuckers. (ice cr?m), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 14:21 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, though I think Davis is one of those guys who suspiciously gets injured when his heart's not in it, he was playing through a lot of pain in his final year at GS. Camby is definitely glass-man no. 1 in the NBA though

Can't stop the dancing chickens (dyao), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 14:23 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah davis was def super depressed this year - lol fuckd over by elton brand and david falk

Get a life you owned motherfuckers. (ice cr?m), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 14:29 (fifteen years ago) link

maaan tho nuggs would be sik w/camby - they could move martin over to defend kobe and rip lakers

Get a life you owned motherfuckers. (ice cr?m), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 14:33 (fifteen years ago) link

Martin didn't do so great on kobe last year

carne asada, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 14:40 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, seemed like Denver did everything possible to shoot themselves in the foot before the start of the season, then they got Billups

Birdman is doing an okay job at patrolling the lane though

xp

Can't stop the dancing chickens (dyao), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 14:43 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah but the nuggs last year were just a mess - w/the right back up martin is pretty much the ideal defender for kobels

Get a life you owned motherfuckers. (ice cr?m), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:02 (fifteen years ago) link

Maybe physically but I see him getting in quick foul trouble cuz he's not a smart defender

carne asada, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:09 (fifteen years ago) link

naw hes a really good smart solid defender

Get a life you owned motherfuckers. (ice cr?m), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:12 (fifteen years ago) link

his thug reputation stands in contrast to the fact that hes actually a pretty clever controlled player - i remember him totally dominating and getting inside lol antoine walkers head a few years back in the ecf

Get a life you owned motherfuckers. (ice cr?m), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:13 (fifteen years ago) link

his offensive game has def suffered from injuries and loss of explosiveness but he can still D it up

Get a life you owned motherfuckers. (ice cr?m), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:16 (fifteen years ago) link

Not so smart foul on kobe late in the game last night that really cost them

carne asada, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:18 (fifteen years ago) link

But tbh he was defending well on the play up to that point

carne asada, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:20 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah that foul and the inbounds lob were major brainfarts by teh nuggs down the stretch last nite - they are kicking themselves for letting that one slip away def
