every time they talk about being low on food i keep thinking about how half of virginia is made of walmart and sam's club. they would never be low on food. but in their hellish world they aren't allowed to shop in the real world. they have to forage cans from dusty gas stations.

All the big superstores have helicopters crashed on the roof waiting to cave it in.

Yerac, Thursday, 5 April 2018 17:47 (six years ago) link

that was the ONE big store they were allowed to shop in. the one where the roof caved in. that put them off big stores filled with food for good.

scott seward, Thursday, 5 April 2018 17:47 (six years ago) link

i always remember that one nice suburban street where carl and rick and michonne hung out and carl ate all the pudding. man, you could have lived there for a year. nothing was touched. and that was just one neighborhood. they never look for nice neighborhoods. they like dusty empty auto parts stores the best.

scott seward, Thursday, 5 April 2018 17:50 (six years ago) link

just find a nice gated community why are they so dumb, go live on a little island or something.

they call me melo gelo (Spottie), Thursday, 5 April 2018 17:51 (six years ago) link

They are from Georgia after all. They like those sort of thangs.

Yerac, Thursday, 5 April 2018 17:52 (six years ago) link

there are quite literally THOUSANDS of places with lots of food and good lockable doors. hotels, jails, schools, etc. you wouldn't go hungry for a very long time. everyone's dead for pete's sake.

scott seward, Thursday, 5 April 2018 18:01 (six years ago) link

Haven't watched this show in so long I don't know the last season I saw, but I always thought it would be smart if they rode bicycles instead of walking everywhere. Bicycles are fast, cheap, light and everywhere. Bikes and guns, if they just went to some abandoned subdivision in GA they'd be awash in both on no time.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 5 April 2018 20:24 (six years ago) link

nothing in the show makes any sense. there are totally mountains in america. places where NOBODY could get to you. places where you could see people coming a mile away. but, in general, not going to the fancy neighborhoods to make camp makes less than no sense. they always have the best stuff.

scott seward, Thursday, 5 April 2018 20:40 (six years ago) link

beyond that though, the last two seasons are all about the torture of having negan around forever instead of killing him immediately which is what any sensible person would have done. they had tons of opportunities to kill him and its just kind of cruel to prolong the badness for that long. it's just dumb. it is kinda like the writers are writing the show for a really dumb audience and it wasn't like that when the show was worth watching. i mean everyone still did lots of dumb shit back then but people tend to do a lot of dumb shit. so, it made more sense then.

otm, when i stopped watching around s6/7 it was 100% an ironing show

The show might as well be a video game at this point. A really dreary, video game.

Yerac, Friday, 6 April 2018 01:09 (six years ago) link

I start laughing every time there are random pained, thoughtful face montages.

Yerac, Friday, 6 April 2018 01:11 (six years ago) link

A house down the street from me has been flying a Walking Dead flag for years now.

President Keyes, Friday, 6 April 2018 01:20 (six years ago) link

I don't really know how I feel about that.

Yerac, Friday, 6 April 2018 01:31 (six years ago) link

i liked this show but it's definitely just going by the numbers at this point and it seems that they're just content to have a zombie television series. i'm looking forward to potential expansion beyond the influences of the show and i hope it doesn't doesn't descend into utterly lame plot devices.

Fear The Walking Dead is so much better than its parent show now it's not even funny.

groovypanda, Thursday, 3 May 2018 08:04 (five years ago) link

It's a little funny, because the only thing I've heard about that one is that it's not very good, either.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 3 May 2018 12:39 (five years ago) link

When exactly did Fear the Walking Dead get better? I bailed at episode 1 of season 3.

Yerac, Thursday, 3 May 2018 12:55 (five years ago) link

Episode 2 onwards

groovypanda, Thursday, 3 May 2018 13:32 (five years ago) link

First two seasons were pretty ropey but season 3 was a marked improvement and season 4 has been pretty good so far.

It's no Wire obviously but is much, much better than TWD and actually has some characters I care about.

groovypanda, Thursday, 3 May 2018 13:35 (five years ago) link

i got through the first season and maybe watched one or two of season two and i'd had it.

scott seward, Thursday, 3 May 2018 13:35 (five years ago) link

This season has been interesting as there's a couple of new characters and also one from TWD.

groovypanda, Thursday, 3 May 2018 13:37 (five years ago) link

rufus and i were talking about how sad it was on the walking dead when the zombies become annoyances like mosquitoes and were no longer scary and how this basically started in season 7. just another reason why the show is so sad now.

i mean everyone still alive is good at killing them and living with them but still...they are so benign.

scott seward, Thursday, 3 May 2018 13:41 (five years ago) link

I've always thought that was one of the best takes on zombies. The Tom Savini remake of "Night of the Living Dead" I want to say even makes a big point that the zombies are easy to outrun. That's the genius of the slow zombie model: it's stupid decisions and other people that often pose the biggest problems. This show messed up by making everyone a bunch of dumb mopes seemingly unable to leave their five square miles of land.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 3 May 2018 13:44 (five years ago) link

I hated the characters/casting on Fear TWD (based on the first two seasons). Did everyone die? Is that why it became better?

Yerac, Thursday, 3 May 2018 14:07 (five years ago) link

There's not many of the original cast left now, yes.

groovypanda, Thursday, 3 May 2018 20:02 (five years ago) link

Does FEAR still have the guy with the amazing voice? the one whose boat they escaped on at the end of S1?

Mince Pramthwart (James Morrison), Friday, 4 May 2018 00:28 (five years ago) link

Oh yeah, that guy was the only character I liked. ^^^

Yerac, Friday, 4 May 2018 00:44 (five years ago) link

Same here.

Mince Pramthwart (James Morrison), Friday, 4 May 2018 02:47 (five years ago) link

He's still in the show.

Vernon Locke, Friday, 4 May 2018 05:59 (five years ago) link

This show messed up by making everyone a bunch of dumb mopes seemingly unable to leave their five square miles of land.

you can basically track the demise of the show to that episode when eugene revealed he was lying about the zombie cure. losing all hope and descending into violent neighbourhood squabbles is probably what would really happen (if they didn’t all just neck themselves — honestly who wouldn’t after all they’ve been through) and certainly cheaper to produce, but it’s remarkably boring television.

karl wallogina (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 9 May 2018 11:13 (five years ago) link

They spend way too long shooting so many bullets and panning across sweaty faces and not enough time having normal conversations that would clear up a lot of issues.

Yerac, Wednesday, 9 May 2018 13:59 (five years ago) link

its so artless now. there is nothing cool to look at. everyone just stands around not saying anything. my fave characters have become pointless. and i figure they'll just keep making it as long as it makes money. you would think everyone in it would be so tired of doing it. unless they are all becoming insanely rich off of it.

scott seward, Wednesday, 9 May 2018 14:27 (five years ago) link

I think they're managing to get by

Rick Grimes has been a main character on The Walking Dead since the very beginning and while that makes Andrew Lincoln one of the top-billed cast members on the show, as of the show's sixth season Lincoln has only made around $92,000 per episode. With each episode taking around eight days to film, Lincoln's total season income would come to just under $1.5 million. However, recent reports have indicated that Lincoln may have received a raise for seasons seven and eight, bringing him to around $618,000 per episode and up to par with other cable series stars.

***Spoilers for those watching Fear the Walking Dead (anybody?)***

you would think everyone in it would be so tired of doing it.

That'd be Frank Dillane.

five months pass...

I was about to watch the last episode from last season and then pick up with the new season. From reading reviews though, this seems like a bad idea and I should just really let it go.

Yerac, Monday, 5 November 2018 13:05 (five years ago) link

I stopped watching years ago but from what hear it really does seem like this show is just a bunch of delaying until they can dramatically kill off a character from season one or two.

So I still watch this out of stubborn habit and it was kind of crazy how while watching last night my stereo came on by itself and started playing my favorite Jesus and Mary Chain song at full blast.

I don't think I've watched much of this since around season 2, but apparently it's begun its final season? Weirdly curious about how a presumably endless narrative ends. I wonder if they'll just pull a "The Birds" and have all the zombies just die (again) and end on a "what now?" note.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 23 August 2021 13:12 (two years ago) link

So this shows been running for what 15 years at least?

Bach on harmonica! (Boring, Maryland), Monday, 23 August 2021 15:11 (two years ago) link

Never watched it but I'm going to guess that it finishes similar to the big 'lol' moment at the end of The Mist, and the main character looks at the camera breaking the fourth wall with an 'oops, waddya gonna do' shrug.

Final LONG TWD collection #32 synopsis here. Jumped off with Negan, so only see TWD commercials, but since they've done the Whisperers and I saw Princess has shown up, assume it'll follow the trades in broad strokes.
