basically my criteria is if you want to go out and eat a not-terribly-obscure cuisine for dinner and have no where to do so, you do not live in a major city

Pittsburgh does excellent on culture, pretty good on industry, ethnic food, pizza, but we don't even have a direct intercontinental flight until next week and only patchy service west of the Mississippi. Not saying air transport is the be all and end all but it does tell that you can barely get anywhere south or west of us without flying east or north first

guys: flights from other, major cities is like the googlebot way of figuring out if yr town is the real deal

I do, according to both google maps and metropolitan-area-pop. definitions. Not so much according to do people in other countries know the name of my city definition.

maybe if you have a team in one of the four major sports you should make this list (i.e. sorry omaha, welcome to the club green bay)
