let's say that only the cities that show up in Google Maps at this scale are major cities:

the map includes cities that are major for their region, but not at a national scale

no major cities in either carolina ;_;

Pittsburgh does excellent on culture, pretty good on industry, ethnic food, pizza, but we don't even have a direct intercontinental flight until next week and only patchy service west of the Mississippi. Not saying air transport is the be all and end all but it does tell that you can barely get anywhere south or west of us without flying east or north first

guys: flights from other, major cities is like the googlebot way of figuring out if yr town is the real deal

more flights, more votes from ppl far away that yr actually major enough to merit visiting for pleasure or for business

I do, according to both google maps and metropolitan-area-pop. definitions. Not so much according to do people in other countries know the name of my city definition.
