When I was younger I thought "You know, you know" by Mahavishnu Orchestra would be a cool song to sample / loop a section of, but I think it might have been done already. I could imagine MC 901 Ft. Jesus rapping cooly over it.

This is cool beat and groove. There is something about it that really reminds me of Beck, which of course came a couple decades or so later.

Here’s several intros I’ve been looping which would make a great sample imho - they’re also great songs:
Melodies:Omara Portuondo - noche cubanahttps://youtu.be/frgbtk8mOhM
John Frusciante - outside spacehttps://youtu.be/nX4q6r0-TWQ
Montero - BChttps://youtu.be/XzI4EcFFBtY
Beats (this have been sampled already I guess)
Trevor Dandy - is there any lovehttps://youtu.be/LZ_5NC2ZpwQ
Bernard Estardy - cha tatch kahttps://youtu.be/KPZFJlLcM00
Barbatuques - baiao destemperadohttps://youtu.be/zZfN3YaSRNQ
Joe Farrel - upon this rockhttps://youtu.be/-0oq763amX0
This one seems ripe to be a deep house song, surprised this hasn’t been taken yet (that I’m aware of):
Ella Jenkins - who’s gonna be your manhttps://youtu.be/U8Nw3Asi5ZM

"Man with the Harmonica" from Once Upon a Time in the West score. WhoSampled lists 24 tracks that sampled it, but none of them did it well imo.

all owls are f*cking high owls iirc
grudging thanks to rym's comment box for that song, because I could have easily gone my entire life without encountering "You're Beautiful (Uncensored Album Version)" in the wild

If I were a dusty boom-bap producer, I would sample the guitar from the beginning of this Sarah Vaughan version of My Favorite Things, and the hits from the bridge around 2:00. Incredible version btw.

I've been listening to lots of old prog lately and noticed the bass intro to "Time To Dream" by Greenslade. Would be a good loop.

I would use the first 15 seconds of the season 4 (1977-78) opening credits of the sitcom Rhoda.

Great intro! Thanks for that. Billy Goldenberg also wrote & conducted the score for a Columbo episode 'Ransom For A Dead Man'.

I have a bunch of these in this playlist

There’s so many already I don’t even remember which parts specifically made me think “eureka”… might need to really get into learning how to produce and start using them until I get sued.

I didn't either bc till now I hadn't watched the show beyond the first three seasons, which lack that intro. It's weird how the intro is all minor and synthy and then the main part of the theme comes in all major and jaunty, with a melody - as I saw someone online point out - quite a bit similar to a 1908 composition called "The Yama Yama Man."
