On mine too, no doubt about that. And to think this wasn't even considered good enough to be the B side of the WBH single...
Are the Poor Leno mixes any good?

bit crap really but looking forward to their new album anyway (also please do some new remixes)

― Bondzilla vs Mechaholmes (blueski), Tuesday, 20 January 2009 12:56 (fifteen years ago) link
The Boys Noize mix of "Happy Up Here" is awesome.
― van smack, Sunday, 15 February 2009 21:57 (fifteen years ago) link
While "Happy Up Here" is a pleasant enough "Eple" rehash, the rest of the album is very good, specifically the bouncy "Miss it So Much", the Kate Bush-y "You Don't Have a Clue" and the stupendously dramatic "The Girl and the Robot" with Robyn. My only problem is with the very irritating "Tricky Tricky" which will probably be a big hit to spite me.
Royksopp do reinforce my theory that Robyn, Lykke Li, Karin Dreijer and Kate Havnevik are all the same person though.

the trio of swedish female vocalists feels like a miss-step (though i like robyn and dreijer in their own right)

― daavid, Friday, 13 March 2009 06:12 (fifteen years ago) link
so I'm listening to Parliament and it gets to 'do that stuff' and all of a sudden I get a total pang of nostalgia for Nice & Smooth ( -- still awesome, "I can get mellow / Lay back, and let my girl play the cello / Hello / I hate Jell-O") and then I get to this new Royksopp video
ok I am just a sucker for this. I love how they pitch-shift modulated a parliament sample essentially into a cover of the one other song I know by them, they're using a sample to cover... themselves!
― Milton Parker, Monday, 4 May 2009 20:47 (fifteen years ago) link
I love Röyksopp and their latest album is ace. But I like them better when they are not sampling.
― Geir Hongro, Monday, 4 May 2009 22:02 (fifteen years ago) link
when do they not sample, geir

(ok that's the only other song I know by them, and it looks like they're normally less into bricolage. still, what they did with those two samples is exactly my kind of thing, these guys are going to know exactly what to do with Melodyne 2 if it ever comes out)
― Milton Parker, Monday, 4 May 2009 23:01 (fifteen years ago) link
Is this all ILM has on Junior? I've never really listened to this band before (apart from hearing the singles off Melody AM) but I'm really enjoying this album. The Girl And The Robot, True To Life, You Don't Have A Clue - all totally killer. I don't see how the vocalists are a miss-step.

Any word on Senior? The last album was a pile of special guest vocalist shit. Hopefully Senior is truly darker and mostly instrumental.

The last album was a pile of special guest vocalist shit.
Every part of this statement is 100% wrong.
Hopefully Senior is truly darker and mostly instrumental.
You'll be delighted to know that it's instrumental, at least.

― brotherlovesdub, Thursday, 9 December 2010 19:33 (thirteen years ago) link

― djh, Thursday, 9 December 2010 19:42 (thirteen years ago) link
bld feel free to make yr case for it being better than Junior. i've kinda ignored this because tho it is by no means terrible it is kinda dull and neither as lush nor as busy as i was hoping they could make it.
― modrić in paradise (blueski), Thursday, 9 December 2010 19:51 (thirteen years ago) link
Curious way to go about asking if you should check it out but ok. I think it's worth hearing. It's got some good tracks, a few tracks that are just ok and no real stinkers. Nothing incredible either.
― brotherlovesdub, Thursday, 9 December 2010 19:51 (thirteen years ago) link
My case for it being better than Junior = fewer vocals on Senior. Senior is more of a listening album, Junior is more of a 'let's make party tracks with guest vocalists'.
― brotherlovesdub, Thursday, 9 December 2010 19:53 (thirteen years ago) link
i was v keen on a good listening album from them but this wasn't quite it and i think they really are better at pop songs tbh

really enjoying that album, have absolutely no time for the story at the end.
it seems so out of place and is joined on at the end.
Solid steel put a Ray Bradbury short story in the middle of a compilation in 2001 and this feels like an outdated extension of that.

How the hell can you have the luxury of 1. saving a voice like Susanne Sundfør's until the second half of your track and then 2. not even selecting it for your album!?

I have this memory of driving home in a blizzard listening to Melody AM it was getting toward late afternoon and the sun was fading, in Southern Minnesota where once the ditches are full of snow it just blows across the road so you can barely tell where the road ends and the ditch begins but Roksopp felt appropriate

If they would just properly repress/collect their early singles and Melody AM album, I would be happy.
Just listened to the snippets on the website and it sounds pretty interesting, which kind of surprised me. I'm curious if this is going to be an 'ambient, standard, remix' approach or something different for the 3 releases.

New one's out there now. Hearing it's quite the return to form. Two new Susanne Sundfor tracks too. I see the Sundfor thread was bumped but there's more on the record than those tracks - new Alison Goldfrapp collab too.
