Spoilers:

The part where Drogon burned the throne! Who knew dragons were so literal?

Ha ha ha ha aha aha! I had to legit stifle laughter through this entire episode. What trash!

This made the Ewok dance party at the end of Return of the Jedi look like Citizen Kane.

I have a confession to make.

As soon as jon and Dany kissed, I picked up my phone and completely stopped watching my tv. I had completely given up on the show and didn’t care anymore

And then I looked back and Dany was dead on her back with blood out her mouth and nose and I was like, what the fuck is going on.

I rewound twice, not going far enough back to see Jon make the move with his dagger. It was the third rewind that I went far enough back to see what happened.

unashamed and trash (Unctious), Monday, 20 May 2019 02:38 (four years ago) link

what the hell was that

trash? we got zero titty shots in this one! not true game of thrones. they even shot down bronn’s (hail to bronn) sensible brothel request. reshoot it all!

we did all this to basically hold a student council election

Thought it was weird that when Sansa was like "we're gonna be independent, deuces!" not a single other House was like "oh, yeah, us too, this seven kingdoms thing is pretty new."

Lol, for real.

Mazzy Tsar (PBKR), Monday, 20 May 2019 02:54 (four years ago) link

your student councils were surprisingly boring/non-Election-ish

mh, Monday, 20 May 2019 03:07 (four years ago) link

overblown and underwhelming
at the end my gal said well at least you don't have to watch it anymore and that's when i realized that I HAVE FINALLY WON THE GAME OF THRONES

Transition from drogon flying away with dead dany to the council meeting was the visual equivalent of saying “yadda yadda yadda”

TYRION: People love stories. And no one has a better story than Bran

d&d have a bad habit of confusing stretching out a scene and giving it meaning. honestly, they could've cut ten minutes of silent starting out with a single simple pass and it wouldn't have impacted the episode in any way.

I mean the ability to tell a story about someone isn’t what they did, it’s what makes their story fit the role they end in. Writing of history, etc

If there’s anyone suited to ride off into legends it’s Arya imo

mh, Monday, 20 May 2019 04:22 (four years ago) link

I like the ending conceptually but it was carried out pretty clunkily. Made sense for Jon to end up with the free folk. I feel like if they had either taken a few more episodes or spent a bit more time writing good dialogue instead of blowing it all on CGI spectacle and long shots of silent brooding characters they could have nailed it, but they just kinda half assed it at the end. And they didn't have the books to reference, which turned out to be pretty critical.

That was unbelievably bad

Bran, the last few seasons: “I’m not Bran.”

Tyrion: “Will you wear the crown?”

Bran, now: “King Bran sounds pretty fuckin tight to me”

Simon H., Monday, 20 May 2019 04:34 (four years ago) link

I thought people complaining about the wolf a few episodes ago were missing mistaking a painfully obvious script hook for outright incompetence and it turned out that way. If you’re writing from both the beginning and the end, it’s both cheap and easy to leave people wanting in the middle because you’ve already written it in the last act.

mh, Monday, 20 May 2019 04:35 (four years ago) link

I guess I can forgive the Bran as king thing since it’s clear that Tyrion is running shit while Bran tries to warg a dragon.

DJI, Monday, 20 May 2019 04:51 (four years ago) link

Dockside: Jon kneels before King Bran

Bran: Jon for someone as handsome and able bodied as you are, you are more of a fkn cripple than I ever was HAVE FUN AT THE NIGHTS WATCH YOU PRANNET

- so we discussed and tbh everyone thought you did good
- everyone
- oh. yeah, except the unsullied. so you gotta go to the wall.
*Unsullied get on boats and sail away forever*
- hey so can I come back now?
- what?
- I said, the unsullied all sailed away forever. can I come back now?
- I think we have a bad raven. say hi to Tormund!

the season sucked but the finale based on what was given prior was fine. now get back to preemptively being pissed about the deadwood movie.

the episode could've used some depictions of characters' immediate responses to jon's action... the dragon stuff was cool and all, but, sheeeeit

braunld (Lowell N. Behold'n), Monday, 20 May 2019 05:59 (four years ago) link

- lol at Sam trying to invent democracy
- Davos to Greyworm: "start your own house". Greyworm: "Um... about that."
- WHO ARE JON'S REAL PARENTS?! = dragon won't kill you even when you deserve it
- "You will never marry", as if Jon's not going to find a new wildling girlfriend in like two secs
- The Dothraki be like "WE CROSSED THE POISONED WATERS OF THE OCEAN FOR THIS SHIT?!"
- Bran knowing he's eventually going to be king and letting everyone get slaughtered before it happens: Littlefinger was right. "Chaos is a ladder" and all that.
- Brienne ;_;
- A direwolf got petted, like he should
- Am cool with Sansa being the queen of Northern Ireland
- Good luck discovering America, Arya!

Roz, Monday, 20 May 2019 06:25 (four years ago) link

I didn’t think there was any mystery about Jon’s real parents.

Roz, Monday, 20 May 2019 07:21 (four years ago) link

Yeah, distinctly underwhelming.

Stuff I liked:
- Sansa being Queen in the North (even if it’s not clear wrt succession?)
- Bran still being alive (but more because I love book Bran, show Bran not so much)
- Arya being alive and retaining some of her humanity - her goodbye scene with Jon!
- Jon parting Ghost was cute as fuck
- my fave Davos still around and now master of ships
- Tyrion uncovering Jaime and Cersei even though they were hilariously unsquished and telegenic
- I did like the idea of Jon helping rebuild the civilisation north of the wall since he was the one who allied with the wildlings

Stuff I didn’t:
- basically everything with Daenerys
- lol Jon should’ve been toasted
- I’ve never really cared for Bronn so I’m like 🙄 at him being on the small council
- the small council ho-ho-ho look at this ragtag bunch of men ruling banter was shite

gyac, Monday, 20 May 2019 09:35 (four years ago) link

Oh, I liked Brienne writing Jamie’s entry in the White Book as well. That was a nice book callback I wasn’t expecting.

Also Tyrion was hand to two kings and a queen and a member of a great house, what kind of shit history omits him?!

From the AVClub:

There’s been talk that Game Of Thrones will be the last show that we watch this way, millions coming together to watch simultaneously and then react and discuss in real time,

Who the fuck is saying this? There will obviously be some other show that lots of people watch and talk about. Hell, around 18 million people apparently watched the series finale of The Big Bang Theory (around the same numbers iirc that GoT has been getting this season), and if I knew any of them I'm sure they'd be talking about it.
