i don't know but hopefully i will soon find out. If anyone needs a very tidy and lovely flatmate, then...don't ask me (ho ho ho). However I am very good at watching tv and commenting loudly and annoyingly on what people are wearing. Also on eating all your food.

Edinburgh is great. But it's very cold this time of year. Search out the Dr Jekyl and My Hyde bar which serves some great cocktail and if you want indie tunes go to The Liquid Rooms. If you want to feel like the only white face in Harlem there's an R and B club under a bridge somewhere, but I quite like it cos a really nice girl came on to me when I was last there and I stupidly didn't take up her advances as I was trying to fix shit out with my ex at the time. I think I was the only indie kid in there.

C-Man (C-Man), Tuesday, 6 January 2004 23:47 (twenty years ago) link

David wants indie tunes alright. im sure he would love the jeckyl and hyde too.

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 6 January 2004 23:50 (twenty years ago) link

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 6 January 2004 23:52 (twenty years ago) link

that's my name you're ruining!

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 6 January 2004 23:59 (twenty years ago) link

oh my goodness i went to the liquid rooms last friday. it was my friend's choice. It was the shitest indie club i have been to in many a year and I kissed a man wearing a trucker hat. I am ashamed.

kathryn m (kathryn m), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 00:02 (twenty years ago) link

i hope you slagged off his clothes first.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 00:05 (twenty years ago) link

no i tried on his hat. then threw it on the floor as i recall.

kathryn m (kathryn m), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 00:09 (twenty years ago) link

Yeah, but if you want to kop with neds you get what you deserve sweetheart. You really should have more class, women who get off with neds just have, like, no respect from me at all.

C-Man (C-Man), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 00:09 (twenty years ago) link

??? how does trucker hat = ned? were you not around for the infamous trucker hat wars of 2003? trucker hat = likes momus, or something like that, can't quite remember now. anyway he was australian so he can't have been a ned.

kathryn m (kathryn m), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 00:12 (twenty years ago) link

if you're wearing a trucker head you're a tosser.

C-Man (C-Man), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 00:14 (twenty years ago) link

i like trucker hats

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 00:16 (twenty years ago) link

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 00:23 (twenty years ago) link

but tracer, i just bought one! you have shattered my dreams! must i also throw away my collection of lap-dancers and glittery chains?

kathryn m (kathryn m), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 00:26 (twenty years ago) link

There's such a double standard here though, cause i bet if a hot girl wore a trucker hat Calum might find it acceptable, which proves that girls have it easier than guys these days.

xpost: No!! Hop hop videos from 1992 are kind of the pinnacle of fashion, now that you mention the other things that they're constituted of. I shouldn't have been so disparaging.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 00:28 (twenty years ago) link

Sorry I mean 2002

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 00:35 (twenty years ago) link

If I had meant 1992 I would = a ned

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 00:45 (twenty years ago) link

I hate ladettes and most females in clubs these days are ladettes. It's like one day women woke up and thought, "Hmm, the feminist revolution is over with so we can do as we please and act like men which, in doing so, unwittingly makes us even fucking worse than the arseholes we were originally out to stop - i.e. sexist, drunken, footies fans hollering along to 'Come on Eileen' in the street at 3am on a Saturday morning".

That's maybe why I hate clubs.

C-Man (C-Man), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 01:15 (twenty years ago) link

If the feminist revolution was over wouldn't that mean women would all go back to the adjoining room of the club and reapply their lipstick while you fetched their drinks?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 01:17 (twenty years ago) link

I do that anyway. Next.

C-Man (C-Man), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 01:21 (twenty years ago) link

Next what?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 01:31 (twenty years ago) link

Haha I love how Calum can condemn sexists and then expound on what women should and shouldn't wear in the same breath. It's masterful, really!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 01:43 (twenty years ago) link

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 01:54 (twenty years ago) link

so did we clear up how much it costs to rent in edinburgh yet? approx. same as glasgow probably. haha i don't even know anyone in edinburgh. gah.

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 02:35 (twenty years ago) link

If I had meant 1992 I would = a ned

I see my name is being taken in vain again.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 03:36 (twenty years ago) link

i read this weird thing about feminism once, it said something about the point of feminism being that the idea was that women should be able to act in whatever way they pleased, and not have to conform to any male point of view on what that should be, and that the days of what are 'suitable' ways for women to act would one day be over

c-man, do you think that feminism is about women acting a certain way, or about having the freedom to not have to act a certain prescribed way?

man, Wednesday, 7 January 2004 08:41 (twenty years ago) link

The berts bar i was referring to is in the west end behind shandwick place, but the stockie one sounds quite promising.

When i was thinking of renting last year the rents for a one bedroom flat in a semi decent area came in at about £400pcm but they could have gone up since then, sorry i can't be more precise, i decided to buy instead.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 09:12 (twenty years ago) link

Bert's is still there, behin Shandwick Place. They still do excellent pies too.

hmmmmm, Wednesday, 7 January 2004 09:29 (twenty years ago) link

Glad to hear it, ta.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 09:32 (twenty years ago) link

£200 for a bedroom in a shared flat is a good price nowadays. I pay £550 for a three-bedroom place, which I think is damn cheap for Edinburgh.

(I really should get flatmates some time; it might be damn cheap for three bedrooms, but it's not if you're the only one living there)

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 10:45 (twenty years ago) link

That is really cheap for here, i wonder what i'd get if rented my flat out.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 11:08 (twenty years ago) link

Well, it is a ex-council flat. It's right near the city centre, though.

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 11:10 (twenty years ago) link

Mine's an ex-council flat, but it's not that close to the city centre, kind of between leith and portobello (not lochend i should add).

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 11:22 (twenty years ago) link

Aaah. Mine's on the Dumbiedykes estate.

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 11:24 (twenty years ago) link

I used to live just up the road from there, in Newington. Are there still dodgy folk roaming around with scary rotweilers or has the holyrood effect gentrified the area?

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 11:33 (twenty years ago) link

Nah, still plenty of dodgy folk :-)

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 11:34 (twenty years ago) link

I feel I should retract my earlier statement. I am both tidy and lovely, just in case any potential flatmates are reading this.
