I think for the next hour, I'll be 'Wonder Twin Powers, Activate'

luna (luna.c), Friday, 9 May 2003 07:25 (twenty years ago) link

Starting now

Wonder Twin Powers, Activate (luna.c), Friday, 9 May 2003 07:28 (twenty years ago) link

I like using my own name; it's quite exotic (in the Anglo-Saxon world, at least - the English equivalent would be Thomas), so I probably won't bump into another Tuomas anytime soon. At another board I was called The Truth, but that name started to feel somewhat pompous, even though it was a comics reference. Of course, it didn't help things that no one else knew it was a comics reference.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 9 May 2003 07:34 (twenty years ago) link

Form of a rabid tiger!
Shape of an icecube!

Wonder Twin Powers, Activate (luna.c), Friday, 9 May 2003 07:36 (twenty years ago) link

Hrmmmm. I think I actually preferred Masonic Boom to Kate (I love how despite the fact that other Kates post here, I am the only one that does not need a surname or initial) but it's much harder to type out every time. I'm lazy. And I refuse to register.

I was going to say I don't remember where Masonic Boom came from, but then I remembered it was a Spacemen3-related screen name. I used to have different screen names for different boards, depending on the topic of the board - hence I was Tabitha's Socks on a Blur board and Paranoid Spice on a Radiohead board. But Masonic Boom was the only one that stuck. (Pity, I quite liked Paranoid Spice, it really bothered pompous Radiohead fans who didn't get bubblegum.)

I quite frequently refer to people as their screen names. As in "Oh, look, Doomie is stalking us, here he is in another record shop!" (To the point where I think HSA actually believes that it is his real name.) And at the FAP, I introduced HSA, saying "This is Joe" and got blank looks until I added "Handsome Sound Artist?"

kate, Friday, 9 May 2003 07:44 (twenty years ago) link

I think the hour is about up.

Wonder Twin Powers, Activate (luna.c), Friday, 9 May 2003 08:35 (twenty years ago) link

Woo.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 9 May 2003 08:36 (twenty years ago) link

'luna' just seems so much lamer now in comparison

oops (Oops), Friday, 9 May 2003 08:45 (twenty years ago) link

Yeah well call it my 15 minutes of fame, and now I'm back to boring old me.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 9 May 2003 08:46 (twenty years ago) link

Yes, I shall stay as this. I am convinced.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 9 May 2003 08:47 (twenty years ago) link

you should. its a lovely name.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 9 May 2003 09:34 (twenty years ago) link

Only later did I realize it [jaymc] could be read as Jay McSomething.

Or simply as "james", weirdly spelled?

OleM (OleM), Friday, 9 May 2003 10:53 (twenty years ago) link

Oh yeah, I just changed my name from Nick A. to NA. I got tired of being a generic Nick and decided to become something even more generic. Who knows, it might gradually transmogrify into something else. But you can keep thinking of me as Nick if you want.

NA. (Nick A.), Friday, 9 May 2003 11:30 (twenty years ago) link

I noticed, Nick. You will always be Nick to me.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 9 May 2003 11:33 (twenty years ago) link

i am now starting to feel happier about people calling me gaz

gaz (gaz), Friday, 9 May 2003 11:34 (twenty years ago) link

I was BJ. On another forum I post on I forgot my password, so I had to re-register and I couldn't use my old tag. I decided I may as well use the same tag everywhere.

'Fred Nerk' is appropriate in this case in one sense. In Oz slang FN was the name you called someone when you'd forgotten their right name.

Fred Nerk, Friday, 9 May 2003 11:58 (twenty years ago) link

I keep interpreting NA as N/A, Not Applicable.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 9 May 2003 14:05 (twenty years ago) link

To me NA is "nah", as in "can't be bothered". At least it's not as poncey as N.

I can't remember why I was Mark C. I know I orginally posted under my full name, but wised up to that smartish. Maybe I felt, paradoxically, that it was awkward to have a nickname among a load of people I didn't know.

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 9 May 2003 14:15 (twenty years ago) link

NA = Narcotics Anonymous?

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 9 May 2003 14:29 (twenty years ago) link

I'm Tom, as most ppl have probably guessed. This is my on-sabbatical-from-moderating alias.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 9 May 2003 14:36 (twenty years ago) link

Aaaah!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 9 May 2003 14:58 (twenty years ago) link

Actually, my surprise/fright shames me immediately, since one of your posts was explaining where the phrase I stole from you was originally stolen from.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 9 May 2003 15:02 (twenty years ago) link

Oops, no. But now that figures...

I wondered where Tico had popped up from.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 9 May 2003 15:03 (twenty years ago) link

Heh it was as plain as the nose on your face. Welcome back you scamp.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 9 May 2003 15:05 (twenty years ago) link

He did have that cool, detached moderator's tone that Mr Ewing does so well.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 9 May 2003 15:17 (twenty years ago) link

Is it Tico in honour of Tico Torres?

jel -- (jel), Friday, 9 May 2003 15:23 (twenty years ago) link

No. I couldn't think of a good alias so I named myself after a particularly tar-like brand of dark rum certain ILXers had drunk a lot on holiday.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 9 May 2003 15:25 (twenty years ago) link

Well? At least I'm fresh and cool!

Talcynuts (Bryan), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 13:55 (twenty years ago) link

yay talcynuts!

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 14:13 (twenty years ago) link

Sarah starry gets to be just Sarah sometimes. But she was here first, so I guess she wins. *sigh*

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 14:14 (twenty years ago) link

Usually I am "just Sarah" all the time - but that wd be bcz it is my name.

Sometimes though, I, like Tico Tico, prefer to name myself after rum.

Overproof (starry), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 14:27 (twenty years ago) link

Back to Bryan. Sorry everyone if you actually preferred Talcynuts.

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 14:37 (twenty years ago) link

Sarah is my (real) name too!

Tico Tico made me think of tacos.

Sarah MCLusky (coco), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 14:58 (twenty years ago) link

I'm thinking of changing my name to something like, Mr. Fu-Q Mann

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 15:02 (twenty years ago) link

Tico Tico has never made me think of tacos.

I am actually taco-ed out after yesterdays sniffling-into-tacos-fest. I suppose I would quite like a big bowl of pasta but it's not a full on calling at Sainsburys obsession yet. Actually, I am mentally running through racks of Sainsburys as I type and see nothing I can be bothered with one way or the other. Is this down to overindulgence or yet another facet of my life faded to grey? At least if it was I might be able to lose some weight and ever get rid of this oral fixation of mine and my terrible mis-use of food but I very much doubt it.

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 15:05 (twenty years ago) link

Sarah M -- Is there ever any rhyme or reason for McLusky vs. MCLusky vs. McLUsky? It boggles my mind whenever I see a new letter capitalized!

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 15:09 (twenty years ago) link

There are 20 different personalities in my head. No, I just type in my pseudo quickly and figure that as long as people can figure out my identity, it's ok. And sometimes I drop out letters and becomes McLusy or just go with Mclusky. Meh. In other words, I AM LAZY.

Sarah MCLUsky (coco), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 15:37 (twenty years ago) link

I had no idea -- I'm a little disappointed that it isn't Tico Torres.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 15:39 (twenty years ago) link

MCLU = the Micronesian Civil Liberties Union

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 15:39 (twenty years ago) link

I had tacos the other night. They were numulous.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 15:42 (twenty years ago) link

Leftover chinese takeaway is the way to go. Yesterdays average beef chow mein becomes the FOOD OF THE GODS. (Also the mess of the gods but there you go).

I lie, tonight I have craving for a PINT.

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 15:44 (twenty years ago) link

Sarah - I guess this is as good a place to ask as any: is your email supposed to read "Seventy-seven tigers kiss us"? This has been bothering me for some time.

chester (synkro), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 15:52 (twenty years ago) link

It looks to me like it's referring to 77 American straight-edge tigers.

slutsky (slutsky), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 16:37 (twenty years ago) link

Ha ha. It has nothing to do with straight edge. I just couldn't get an email address I wanted so I put x's around 77 tigers. And then someone already had that one too. So they give you these choices...: You could do this email or this one or that... So I chose x77tigersx with the us at the end. Me, being an idiot, thought it just meant us as in you and me and didn't realize it meant the U.S. of A. I was born in 1977 and I like kitty cats. At the time, I had a zine called the Paper Tiger. And I liked the idea of 77tigers all running across a huge field together. And it has nothing to do with sports either. Thanks for askin.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 17:56 (twenty years ago) link

I was born in 77.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 17:59 (twenty years ago) link

That's impossible!!?!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 18:01 (twenty years ago) link

two weeks pass...
Hm

Cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 31 May 2003 21:26 (twenty years ago) link

pretty sure Zemko became Snoom, if that's what you're looking for...

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Saturday, 31 May 2003 21:32 (twenty years ago) link

haha! diamond I met zemko and snoom at gigs and they look nothing alike.
