Bikini Red is probably the most consistent, though I HATED "I Wanna Be a Flintsone," which branded them a stupid novelty act. Ugh.
Gun Shy was fucking brilliant.

Sadly, the only SBMs record in my house now, though, is their Peel Sessions EP. I have no idea why I got rid of their *Gun Shy*, which was really great (though didn't it include all the tracks from the *Good and Gone* EP? Or maybe not.) I even used to have a record or two by Motor Boys Motor; didn't they *turn into* the Messiahs?
And yeah, I totally hated the Flintstone song too, AND HAD FORGOTTEN ALL ABOUT IT UNTIL ALEX JUST MENTIONED IT. DAMN YOU ALEX!!

the way the lead singer used to bash his microphone stand aganst the guitar for more noise/feedback was really quite impressive and somewhat intimidating ..
surely its time for a nice reissue campaign .. or are they still out there on the circuit ?

Screaming Blue Messiahs also had excellent backing vocals, right up there with Van Halen....

Wounded Bird just reissued Gun-Shy and Bikini Red today. I just wish that label would start doing bonus tracks (first EP please) and liner notes.

Bowie used to rep for them all the time; he hinted in a couple of '87 interviews that he wanted to produce them.

So when does the Motor Boys Motor album get reissued? That's when they were really ferocious. Or at least I thought so at the time, when I actually owned the thing. Even had a better Flinstones song than the second SBMs album, which I trashed as a sellout in Creem when it came out.
Wonder what my Peel Sessions EP would go for now...

There are plans for a box, currently titled Vision in Blues, that will include remastered versions of every album with B-sides appended (including the Good and Gone EP, expanded to 11 tracks as it is on iTunes), a live disc, and some extraneous material (a 7", reproduction backstage passes). Here's a mock-up photo of what it might look like; the rumor is it may be out in April.

Yeah, it's a CD box set, not vinyl reissues. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

The Vision in Blues box set (5 CDs, as follows: Gun Shy + all B-sides, Bikini Red + all B-sides, Totally Religious + all B-sides, the 11-track version of Good & Gone, and a previously unreleased live album, plus a live 7") is now available for pre-order. My order's already in, though there's no release date yet - all they're saying is "soon."

well, my boxset arrived.sounding perfectly fine to me, but i aint an audiophile so could not say how they are in comparison to previous cd issues.the booklet with bands history rundown is well done given i knew very little about the story of the band.all in all a good summation of the bands catalogue.

ahh yeah.the laminate repro is a typical 'special extra' which is totally pointless.however, the extra cd-r with 5 live tracks is bloody wonderful.

just have to sit back and wait.tis weird to be able to listen to a relatively successful bands complete catalogue in a couple of hours.gotta love the era of the short album.just a shame they could not get clearance for the peel session stuff.i am assuming it was a clearance issue, as this has been released in conjunction with WEA who i guess have no access to the peel session.
― mark e, Monday, 1 August 2016 20:03 (seven years ago) link
no neighbours tonight.bloody hell this band knew how to make a fantastically brilliant noise.
― mark e, Tuesday, 2 August 2016 21:21 (seven years ago) link
just been advised that the last 4 tracks on 'good and gone' are actually the peel session.

Can't believe these guys get a reissue - good for them -- i'll throw a shout for "Killer Born Man". And on a completely unrelated note, Mr. Carter can plop a hot steamy one on a similarly-domed guitarist with the same initials.

It's £45.40 on Easy Action's site, and £28 (with shipping to US) on Amazon.uk, and $59 USD in the US Amazon site. That's quite a wide range in pricing. I ordered the cheapest option.

Easy Action really jumped the price up - when I pre-ordered, I believe it was £35.

Just picked up the box set. (Found it in an actual brick n' mortar record store, if you can believe it. They had 3 copies.) What great racket these guys made! Can't believe the Bowie endorsement (plus that Flintstones song) didn't put them over the top. I remember seeing them in the 80's, Bill Carter playing with no pick, just using his fingers, a Tasmanian devil of blood, sweat and spit. (In an impeccable suit, no less.) I still wonder how it's possible to play like that and not shred your fingers to the bone each night.

I only know the Flintstones song, what's a good example of what else they did
