@nnie and i are gonna go see a gamelan in SF in september and im SO PSYCHED! i tried to go to the indonesian embassy years ago in DC, where they had open gamelan night for anyone to play in, but they had canceled it. so this will be my first live gamelan experience!

i saw a gamelan ensemble play in NY when i was in college--it was dope!

my buddy r0ry was in a gamelan in colorado, then another one when he was at calarts!

btw i am away from all my records until friday night and i'm already annoyed at having to listen to shit via itunes and also not be able to participate in this thread :(

i <3 gamelan so much that did a study-abroad program in Bali in lollege just so I could hear it in person. I spent most of my $$ on tapes, which I want to post/blog at some point before they rot. Almost all gamelan, but I'm kicking myself now that I didn't grok and buy more dangdut or kroncong or other pop music. No vinyl in Indonesia because it melts.

weird album too. all stuff that freddie recorded while out on bail from jail and before he went to angola prison for three years for pot possession. but with new 70's musical backing tracks. late 50's vocals meets slick 70's. kinda like that elvis album they did in the 80's.

had to bust open a sealed Sandpipers album from the dumpster. sounds so PHAT! The Wonder Of You album. this is a serious potsmoking album. not that i'm smoking pot, but i'm getting a contact high from this album.
