I still only have burned copies of "Disintegration", "Mixed Up" and "Wish" though

U MAD

Blame it on my brother, who used to be a huge Cure fan. I felt we didn't need to have one original each, but I changed my mind when the remasters started appearing. ;)

Geir Hongro, Friday, 2 May 2008 21:39 (sixteen years ago) link

I think I said the same as Geir upthread. The demos are interesting once, maybe twice, but I never replay them.

akm, Friday, 2 May 2008 21:41 (sixteen years ago) link

I've gone through two cassettes and one CD of "Disintigration", and I, too, am waiting for the reissue. I haven't listened to it for almost three years now. I guess that's fine, though, because I was WAY burned out on it by the time my CD got wrecked.

Is "Mixed Up" worth getting? I've picked up at least three live albums, three VHS/DVDs, the B-Sides box and most of the reissues, but haven't even given it a thought.

BigLurks, Friday, 2 May 2008 21:45 (sixteen years ago) link

As Dan would say (and will say, and as I would say and will say) -- yes, it is worth getting. This is because there are some absolutely brilliant remixes on that thing.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 2 May 2008 22:34 (sixteen years ago) link

hmmm, i'd say it's more for the devoted...

baaderonixx, Friday, 2 May 2008 23:01 (sixteen years ago) link

Well, I'm not devoted, but I like it.

Mark G, Friday, 2 May 2008 23:35 (sixteen years ago) link

"Mixed Up" is kind of worth it for the version of "A Forest" alone.

Geir Hongro, Saturday, 3 May 2008 01:28 (sixteen years ago) link

a forest on mixed up is the first time a heard a cure song and noticed it - and i was converted ever since. mixed up will always be my fave - though in the years since I picked up their backcatalogue. i would definitely get a remastered mixed up.

fantasimundo, Saturday, 3 May 2008 10:26 (sixteen years ago) link

I haven't listened to it for almost three years now.

oh man! i listened to it last night :)

stephen, Saturday, 3 May 2008 14:44 (sixteen years ago) link

seven months pass...

I've gone through two cassettes and one CD of "Disintigration", and I, too, am waiting for the reissue.

On this note, anyone know when/if deluxe versions of Disintrgration and Wish are actually scheduled to appear anytime soon? I've been slowly collecting all the reduxes and I'm only one short of the (thus far) full set - but man I want a Disintegration one NOW!

nothing on their site

Ca-hoot na na na oh oh (HI DERE), Monday, 8 December 2008 16:17 (fifteen years ago) link

No date yet - I guess it'll depend on whether that rumored "dark companion" album comes out. If not, I'm sure new reissues are ready to be released in 6 months or so

baaderonixx, Monday, 8 December 2008 16:34 (fifteen years ago) link

My fear kinda extends to a lot of bands thusly, but perhaps the holdup on the Disintegration Deluxe reissues as well as the other four may just be an issue of money -- they can't afford to make them.

It's a bit irrational to think this right now, but the longer these get delayed, it seems the less money will be available to fund the reissues. It seems Bob's attitude is: well, always concentrate on the new stuff first, reissues whatever. Which is fine. I have no idea how well the Cure deluxe reissues have been selling.

Gino-Vanellyville (Mackro Mackro), Monday, 8 December 2008 16:36 (fifteen years ago) link

This actually crossed my mind as well. I remember when the last Associates/Billy Mackenzie reissues came out a couple of years back, one of the folks working on it via EMI commented that, essentially, it was the last chance for such reissues to be made in remastered CD format, and I can only guess this applies on a wide scale as well. And this was of course before the current economic whatsit.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 8 December 2008 16:39 (fifteen years ago) link

I seriously doubt that. Reissuing this will be pretty cheap and the Cure have a slighter bigger audience than the Associates. With no promo they'll still manage to sell a pretty respectable amount.
I think the delay is more linked to the new album and not wanting to interfere with its schedule. Might as well keep the new batch of reissues for that long 4-year stretch we'll have to endure til the next album

baaderonixx, Monday, 8 December 2008 16:45 (fifteen years ago) link

I doubt it too, but that's because I'd be surprised if Disintegration isn't the best-selling album in their back catalog already. So I'd expect a reissue to actually make some money (whereas I wouldn't be shocked if The Top reissue barely covers costs in the short-ish term at least).

Euler, Monday, 8 December 2008 16:47 (fifteen years ago) link

Well, I assume that even the Best Selling Album By A Very Popular Band Released As 2-CD Deluxe isn't guaranteed to be a blockbuster anymore, especially if the cheaper single disc version is available instead.

I hope I can be proven wrong.

Gino-Vanellyville (Mackro Mackro), Monday, 8 December 2008 17:11 (fifteen years ago) link

That said, I could imagine this and future ones being special deals through their website, so I don't think they'll vanish. But we may not see them in record stores right away like the previous ones.

Gino-Vanellyville (Mackro Mackro), Monday, 8 December 2008 17:12 (fifteen years ago) link

^^^all this: BOO.

Background Zombie (CharlieNo4), Monday, 8 December 2008 17:33 (fifteen years ago) link

wish and disintegration don't really need remastering though, they sound great, and I'm hard pressed to think of bonuses for these that I'd care about that weren't already b-sides.

akm, Monday, 8 December 2008 17:40 (fifteen years ago) link

it's demos and live stuff and so forth that i'd like, i guess, rather than remasters - or maybe the kilburn national wish mini-tour show in its entirety!

Background Zombie (CharlieNo4), Monday, 8 December 2008 18:00 (fifteen years ago) link

I'd really like to hear Disintegration demos actually - just because how grand and over the top the finished article is

Any word on the next batch of reissues? I'm getting antsy to hear them, but doesn't seem like any potential dates have been floated yet.

Anyone have a link to a listing of The Cure's radio sessions? I'd love to get an idea of what might be in that BBC box.

That live version of The Same Deep Water as You is aces. Can never undertand why it was on the original of Entreat.

Flowersdie (Beril the peril), Friday, 9 October 2009 12:46 (fourteen years ago) link

Sorry, ..."NOT on the orginal of Entreat".

Flowersdie (Beril the peril), Friday, 9 October 2009 12:46 (fourteen years ago) link

Could a triple CD version of DISINTEGRATION be enough to pull me out of the woodwork?

Oh, it certainly could.

Matt M., Friday, 9 October 2009 14:25 (fourteen years ago) link

It could, couldn't it.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 9 October 2009 14:35 (fourteen years ago) link

21ST ANNIVERSARY EDITION

My first thought was "This can't be right". My second was "God, I'm old".

o. nate, Friday, 9 October 2009 15:41 (fourteen years ago) link

I have to admit that I've never heard ENTREAT. How does it stack up to the performance of the album from TRILOGY?

Matt M., Friday, 9 October 2009 16:19 (fourteen years ago) link

Trilogy's take is definitely stellar (and arguably even better than the originals at points) but Entreat is often no less powerful and has two OMG performances -- the title track and, as Dan rightly likes to note, a version of "Prayers for Rain" where Robert cuts loose on his vocals towards the end in an honestly jaw-dropping performance.
