i hope the old albums are well represented here since I assume most people only know the reformed line up albums.

bees for me, although i have a weird soft spot for phase 3.

squirrelbait, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 17:12 (fourteen years ago) link

i really am not sure what will win this, but i get a sneaking feeling Bees might.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 17:21 (fourteen years ago) link

It'll be 2.

Mark G, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 17:31 (fourteen years ago) link

i voted bees

mark cl, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 17:34 (fourteen years ago) link

An hour left to vote.

I want to know more about the love for Pentastar, cos I don't get it.

Duke, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 21:58 (fourteen years ago) link

I think it'll be Bees just over 2, with the others trailing. Personally I voted for Phase 3, although all of these are great.

Because Pentastar was awesome, that's why.

earth 2

i love pentastar. most people can't make albums that cool or they would have done it by now. loved that last album too though. more than i thought i would even. at first, i just fell in love with the fancy deluxe vinyl package. turns out it was an album worth the fancy packaging.

scott seward, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 22:14 (fourteen years ago) link

The thing with "bees" is that the live versions on the radio earth lp are superior to the studio versions.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 22:28 (fourteen years ago) link

8 minutes...

bees will win this

wax onleck, wax affleck (jjjusten), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 22:54 (fourteen years ago) link

not saying it should, just that it will, and i think by a sgnificant margin

wax onleck, wax affleck (jjjusten), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 22:55 (fourteen years ago) link

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

Hex deserved better actually.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 23:08 (fourteen years ago) link

i ended up voting for Earth 2 -- even though some of the later stuff is more pleasant to listen to, Earth 2 is so monumental and amazing ... Dunno, it'd be like voting against the Grand Canyon or something.

tylerw, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 23:13 (fourteen years ago) link

i think i've requested this on every Earth thread ever but if any one has a digitized copy of the VHS that came with either Earth 2 or the first one, I would love to watch again please.

that's the video that's just, like, old footage of semi-nude women with the music over it?

since i'm apparently letting ILM polls dictate what i post on my blog, I've just upped a 2006 Earth show over yonder: http://doomandgloomfromthetomb.tumblr.com/

i'm glad i wasn't the only person to vote for phase three; that album's really underrated. the opening track alone's
a masterpiece of epic concision: two guitars, three chords, totally majestic.

I like songs.

dang. missed this. would've voted pentastar. frequently use it to zone out and code stuff at work. the head-nodding repetition is key.

probably not what earth intended, but hey.

I personally think it lacks the epic quality of other Earth stuff. To me it sounds like a reasonably conventional rock band instrumental. And definitely the most interesting song on the album.

Did everyone buy the "bible" vinyl of Bees?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 29 July 2009 23:03 (fourteen years ago) link

Extra Capsular was recorded at Smegma studio and has some Cobain on it. I still like Pentastar best though.

one year passes...

* The Bees Made Honey in the Lion's Skull (2008) 10
* Hex; Or Printing in the Infernal Method (2005) 4

This doesn't make sense to me. Is this the consensus apart from ILX, too? I remember Hex being touted as a kind of undisputed masterpiece at the time, and it's still my favorite (maybe by far?). Maybe I need to listen to TBMHITLS again...

Jimmywine Dyspeptic, Saturday, 28 June 2014 19:06 (nine years ago) link

Also, these vinyl reissues look mighty fine. Not a lotta Earth talk on ILX these days, huh? Been jammin' the drcarlsonalbion soundtrack thing quite a bit lately, love the new Earth single, think dude's on a roll. Just me?

Jimmywine Dyspeptic, Friday, 4 July 2014 03:05 (nine years ago) link

New Earth album Primitive and Deadly out in September. I agree with you about Hex and I think he's kind of lost his way a bit since then.

the last two doomy country outings were not very exciting.

3kDk (dog latin), Friday, 4 July 2014 10:16 (nine years ago) link

I'm biased but the new one is VERY different to the 2 Angels records. If I had to compare it to anything from the back catalog I'd say Bees meets Pentastar

Bees meets Pentastar

hello

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Friday, 4 July 2014 15:18 (nine years ago) link

I thought the last two records were good, the addition of the cello was interesting, but agree they don't hold up as compared to earlier stuff. Stoked there's a new one coming though!
