Both of the non-cologned gay men?

pixel farmer (Rock Hardy), Monday, 20 March 2006 20:08 (eighteen years ago) link

even the residential parts of Capitol Hill might be worth walking around if you have extra time. there are very nice but not ostentatious houses, some with fashionably unkempt gardens/porches. you might even come across a slug!

July 1 kicks off Seafair

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 20 March 2006 20:10 (eighteen years ago) link

xpost - Maybe a couple more than usual would refrain so they could join the good Dr's party :)

Oooo! Seafair! Blue Angels and PIRATES!

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 20 March 2006 20:11 (eighteen years ago) link

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 20 March 2006 20:22 (eighteen years ago) link

The best part of capitol hill to walk on is in the pike/pine corridor, up (east) from downtown, to about 14th. you'll find non-cologned gay men and bars and clubs and record stores on both those streets.

jaq i'm game for a fap in april. i've only ever met one other seattle ilxor (donut) and that was a while ago.

jergins (jergins), Monday, 20 March 2006 21:43 (eighteen years ago) link

Looking forward to meeting up, Jergins - we're there for the final weekend of Tommy at the U, and will stay on lower Queen Anne but know the city well so are up for meeting pretty much anywhere. We've had some fun fappage with donut, but I think he'll be in Oz around then.

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 20 March 2006 22:22 (eighteen years ago) link

Are you staying at Ace Hotel?

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 20 March 2006 22:32 (eighteen years ago) link

Wow - the Kama Sutra instead of the standard issue Gideon's! We usually stay a bit further north, but the Ace looks like more fun. And, it's an ex-flophouse.

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 20 March 2006 22:41 (eighteen years ago) link

yeah, if i ever go to the pacific northwest, i'm totally staying at The Ace in seattle, and Jupiter Hotel in portland.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 20 March 2006 22:44 (eighteen years ago) link

I imagine Morbius is staying at a convention-hotel, but for general reference this place in the U district is nice, and across the street from a bus that goes downtown.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 20 March 2006 22:45 (eighteen years ago) link

I love this city.

I bought Buddenbrooks!

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Monday, 20 March 2006 22:52 (eighteen years ago) link

I've driven past that Watertown place many many times - didn't know it was a hotel! Hmmm - spa suite....

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 20 March 2006 23:03 (eighteen years ago) link

Have you read it, GP? Is it true nothing happens? I want your advice about Go and will email you.

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 20 March 2006 23:05 (eighteen years ago) link

Jaq-I work on lower queen anne so that'll be great! Drop me an email as we get closer.

jergins (jergins), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 01:27 (eighteen years ago) link

Maybe I'll try to swing up to Seattle when Jaq is in town... Hm.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 03:21 (eighteen years ago) link

You should definitely check out Scarecrow and Cinemabooks (right across the street.

C0L1N B... (C0L1N B...), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 03:29 (eighteen years ago) link

Scarecrow Video is amazing.

C. - oh! do!

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 03:48 (eighteen years ago) link

Wow, ok, for starters:

Late April weekend = EMP Pop Conference weekend = BILLIUNS AND BILLIUMS AND BILLIUNS of ILXors are going to be in Seattle that weekend, including Matos (coming back after moving to NYC the other day), Geeta, Michael Daddino, Joseph McCombs, Strongo (I think), Twan (I think), Heavens! Someone I forgot! ;-), and many many more people...

late June/early July = Me in Vancouver for major NoMeansNo CD Release party FAP in combination with possible road-tripping CaliLXorz FAP in Vancouver *and* Seattle.. and fuck yeah, Canada Day (July 1st) *and* July 4th at Lake Union off Westlake Ave. = parteeeeeeeeeee!

I'll be reposting the How To Get Around In Seattle FAQ in a few days, for the EMP Pop Conference peeps anyway... things have changed a little since last year, what with the bus tunnel closing, although the net effect on public transit is nothing worse than just the Monorail not working.. although who knows if it will be running by late April or late June, even. *shrug*

Yoo Doo Nut (donut), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 03:51 (eighteen years ago) link

Is that the weekend of the conference? Meeting people is nice.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 04:14 (eighteen years ago) link

I have replied.

I don't know if anything happens yet! I only ordered it a few hours ago, hopefully nothing will. I'll try and fit it in before RPG Challenge...

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 05:47 (eighteen years ago) link

Actually the baseball convention hotel (Madison & 5th) sold out way early... They gave us 3 spillover options, so I just have to decide whether I want to stay 2 blocks away for $100/night, or stay at Silver Cloud-Broadway 10 blocks away for $140, but have easier access to the aforementioned Pine-Pike Corridor of Men With(out) Cologne.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 21:48 (eighteen years ago) link

Ah, btw - I checked with a few sources re: Men w(/o) cologne, and was told to recommend the DoubleHeader Tavern, which apparently is not just baseball themed. It's down in Pioneer Square. Sadly, Timberline Spirits (which was on Yale) has closed. It was generally full of robust, cologne-free men and I thought it a good bet for you. Alas.

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 21:55 (eighteen years ago) link

the Silver Clouds are supposed to be good choices

gabbneb (gabbneb), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 21:58 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah, so I hear.

xpost
I am touched by your research! Genuinely! Particularly if I end up being too tired to take advantage of it.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 21:59 (eighteen years ago) link

I assume you already have that info for Portland, since you didn't ask.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 22:01 (eighteen years ago) link

my sister recommends the silver cloud-broadway to the men, and she's hardly the cologne type

gabbneb (gabbneb), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 22:01 (eighteen years ago) link

Silver Clouds are nice, comfortable hotels - you might want to bear in mind that the 10 blocks from Madison and 5th will be uphill to the hotel, but there are buses. It's not the steepest part of the regrade, but a definite incline.

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 22:01 (eighteen years ago) link

it's more like evangelicism

gabbneb (gabbneb), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 22:02 (eighteen years ago) link

my parents like the one in the U district, on the far side of U Village (and right by the Burke-Gilman trail), but that might be a bit too suburban in character and far-flung for the carless

gabbneb (gabbneb), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 22:04 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm assuming Morbius lives in NYC? If so, then I don't think a few blocks of an incline is going to be a deterrant, especially given how much lighter and more comfortable Seattle weather will be like in late June compared to NYC in late June.

Yoo Doo Nut (donut), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 03:21 (eighteen years ago) link

Then again, I regularly walk up and down Queen Anne Hill, some parts of which have to be at a 40 degree incline... so maybe I'm not the best person with which to empathize.. heh heh.

Yoo Doo Nut (donut), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 03:24 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah, what I remember of walking around in NYC, it was f.l.a.t. Queen Anne hill is 456 feet of near vertical, though the regrade cut on Denny is more steep.

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 04:07 (eighteen years ago) link

Fuck a Queen Anne Hill slope. That is horrible stuff.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 06:28 (eighteen years ago) link

Well anyway, the Broadway incline to Silver Cloud isn't anywhere near Queen Anne Hill type slopes, Morbius... and it won't be 90% humidity here.

Yoo Doo Nut (donut), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 07:27 (eighteen years ago) link

No Chris, I'm taking things sequentially, feel free to recommend the non-twink Portland stuff. :)

Jeez, the baseball con basics are more expensive than last year ... I may stay downtown just for convenience, and hike it to the DoubleHeader, Eagle etc. (yes I'm in NYC, and I hike the hills of SF fairly easily when I go.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 15:44 (eighteen years ago) link

seven years pass...

Not a Seattle-centric revive, but -- I'm going to get in my truck and wander the country for a few days next week. Anybody east of the Mississippi want to meet up?

WilliamC, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 15:15 (ten years ago) link

one year passes...

Thinking about Portland and/or Seattle in September. Anybody interested in meetups?

catfishers of men (WilliamC), Friday, 18 July 2014 15:11 (nine years ago) link

in Portland, sure! maybe more ilxors in Seattle though...

sleeve, Friday, 18 July 2014 15:55 (nine years ago) link

Seattlx0rs are the meet-uppiest ilxors.

boney tassel (sic), Saturday, 19 July 2014 01:08 (nine years ago) link

one month passes...

This is still possible, though the window is closing.

Malibu Stasi (WilliamC), Monday, 1 September 2014 17:00 (nine years ago) link

Definitely around for a September meet up - I head back to AL on 9/27 though and might have a weekend free for possible MS or Atlanta shenanigans.

Jaq, Monday, 1 September 2014 17:36 (nine years ago) link

One insane idea I had was going to Seattle for one of the King Crimson shows. Trip could involve going to the San Jose (Morgan Hill) area to meet up with my boss (travel expense writeoff!) -- she has a ton of small office chores and workflow issues due to being a semi-Luddite with a 12-year-old laptop.

Malibu Stasi (WilliamC), Monday, 1 September 2014 17:50 (nine years ago) link

I'm gonna be in Seattle on and off for a few weeks leading up to then, I guarantee drink-uppening getting organised if you do go

boney tassel (sic), Tuesday, 2 September 2014 06:59 (nine years ago) link

Welp, looks like this may be off. The work trip is pushed back to next Feb. or March, at least, and my relaxed September is getting busier every hour.

Malibu Stasi (WilliamC), Saturday, 6 September 2014 02:42 (nine years ago) link

Ah well. Spring is nice and maybe you could be here for the EMP pop conference.
