the idea is an old one, to the extent professional dems think about left thats what they tend to think

its also funny behavior from "a policy wonk" because its completely vibes based, why not spend yr time advocating for real world policy that could actually help people instead, oh cause no one gives a shit, yeah its like that sometimes

its funny cause he thinks hes on some grand strategy but comes off more like hes fucked in the head

Beijer, one of the more outspoken socialist power users on Twitter, takes a cynical view of Stancil, though he notes their disagreements are primarily ideological. “The man has absolutely convinced himself that he is somehow controlling political discourse at a national level. He really thinks that his tweets set off a chain of events that ended in the population of the United States deciding that Bidenomics are working,” Beijer said. “It’s delusional, but it also betrays a staggering level of Messianic arrogance and condescension towards all the people who he thinks he’s manipulating.”

anyway hadnt thought about this guy in a while due to going off twitter, overall recommended, tho i do kind of miss checking in on sad freaks like him, he did try to go on bluesky for a while but the shtick didnt take i guess cause its not specifically designed to dredge up the most psycho bs available

lag∞n, Wednesday, 24 April 2024 21:43 (three weeks ago) link

stancil's shtick is incredibly dumb, he's basically constantly saying "the highly polarized positions people take online are not indicative of real life" which is mostly true. but if you keep going down that route you end up as an annoying ideology-free centrist where, again, your centrism gets narrower and narrower until you don't have constructive ideas on changing anything

you don't have to listen to all the strident people, but you do have to take into account that their opinion may be valid, even if they're quote-tweet dunking on you

why not spend yr time advocating for real world policy that could actually help people

this is apparently his day job, which is funny because that is an actual thing he could run on. the history of left-leaning candidates being extremely online and thinking that it'll help their campaign is not a good one

something funny about telling people theyre living in a not real world bubble then running for office in an extreme liberal district against a bunch of candidates with identical politics

lag∞n, Thursday, 25 April 2024 14:37 (three weeks ago) link

what we need is a sixth candidate in this race not really a different kind of guy just a more annoying one

Had no idea Stancil thinks of himself as a master manipulator a la Chris Rufo (who is also delusional/bullshitting that he’s pulling society’s strings, man).

idk rufos had some nice wins, ultimately its all sound and fury but as far as one guy getting inside the medias head hes done well for himself

lag∞n, Thursday, 25 April 2024 16:59 (three weeks ago) link

yeah Rufo has been pretty successful in astroturfing at least, a lot of the anti-CRT/DEI/"Wokeness" stuff comes from him, it's not like these are issues conservatives really care about or can even define

it’s funny because the reality of people getting crushed is sad and that kid was just there for his dad, but in the stakes of tragedies dying instantly by being crushed like a grape is not a terrible way to go, all
things considered. and the ridiculous hubris of a guy who ignored every expert taking insanely rich people in a death tube is wild

thats awesome, every once in a while I remember there was a Lovecraftian dril account out there that just disappeared

Well, they definitionally care about them? It's being able to name them (even if the definitions are wavy) that he's done the work on - so 35 states can pass anti-CRT measures, but they can be applied on a "you know if it you see it" basis - even worse than CRT is CRT that's denying it's CRT!

Good thread going against claims that social media has done that much damage in our politics.

Basically did little to nothing. More evidence social media has been overhyped as a cause of our political dysfunction. https://t.co/rn4ncBnl2X pic.twitter.com/U9wvnuGR2G

I also don't think the timeframe of the study was that useful. If you weren't already in the bag for one candidate five weeks before the election, you probably weren't going to be swayed.

Does anybody use Telegram? in terms of breaking news etc. which Twitter feels less and less useful for
