Did a show with my friend Keegan as well as his friend Adam (of 50milesofelbowroom.com fame) of old-time fiddle tunes, blues, rags, ballads, some gospel etc. Mostly pre-war but with some killer post-war 45s that Adam brought, and a scattered selection of other, later recordings (Anne Briggs fer instance.)

Listen here:
http://www.eastvillageradio.com/shows/nowplaying.aspx?contentid=1208&showid=39236

One of the computers bugged out about midway through the show so the track listing is incomplete. I'll hopefully get a chance to go in and fill in the blanks later today.

I was responsible for a little under one third of this: http://www.eastvillageradio.com/shows/playlists.aspx?contentid=1298&showid=17718&list=13521 (I would add the caveat that I didn't know I was going to be contributing more than a couple of songs and so was under-prepared and had to mine a homemade CD comp from which I DJ at The Hangover Lounge every week...)

If you are sufficiently enthused by the playlist you can listen to it here: http://www.eastvillageradio.com/shows/m3uhandler.ashx?ContentID=1298&PlayListID=13521 (it's the Sept 7 "We've Only Just Begun", in case that doesn't work).

That EVR is a sweet little set-up.

Triumphant(?) return to the digital airwaves tonight at 10pm EST.
Listen on itunes! Radio -> Eclectic -> East Village Radio.

I'll be playing rekkerds with my buddy Keegan, who just called to inform me he's not gonna have a chance to get home to grab records before the show, so it's all on me tonight... country rock, singer-songwriter, a little bit of indie/punkier stuff, a small dose of R&B. Should be alright.

A redemptive set after fucking up last week.
(I ended my show by playing a funk mix tape my buddy made for me, only "program 3" wasn't switched on that line of the board. Our air signal sounds shitty in the booth, which sucks, so the DJ just hears it from the board, so I didn't realize it was dead air until after about twenty minutes. Wanted to bury my head in shame)

I posted this to the DJ mix thread as well. I love spamming ILX.

http://www.hartzine.com/blog/acute-records-maison-de-reeditions-post-punk

This is not up for download yet, only streaming. I'll post it soon. And it's not dance music. Just another somewhat eclectic post-punky type mix that will make it even more unlikely that anyone will ever book me for a night of hi-nrg, despite that being my true dream.

talking about this on the dj mix thread, but those early It's Immaterial tracks have been a real revelation for me lately.

Check out that Lines track btw. First preview of the upcoming unreleased/post-LPs/early 80s/electronic Lines LP coming soon that will blow minds.

that seefeel track!! s0 chill

they want to move our/my show to saturday nights; not really into it, kinda thinking of saying the hell with the whole thing and getting back to having a free schedule, the way i like.

There's alternate ways to distribute. Start a blog and post a new playlist every week or every month or whenever you get around to it. Join up with Viva Radio and submit playlists to them that anyone can stream. etc.

dan selzer, Monday, 31 October 2011 19:45 (twelve years ago) link

you can't pre-record or?

Local Christian Blues (schlump), Monday, 31 October 2011 19:50 (twelve years ago) link

think maybe we can pre-record but frankly that makes it even more of a chore imo. maybe i am being a baby. but i do feel that after like 3 yrs or whatever it's become more of a burden than something that excites me. otoh, sometimes i have a blast. idk.

one dis leads to another (ian), Monday, 31 October 2011 21:01 (twelve years ago) link

but i do feel that after like X yrs or whatever it's become more of a burden than something that excites me

describes pretty much everything, doesn't it?

dan selzer, Monday, 31 October 2011 21:14 (twelve years ago) link

bleak dude, but otm.

one dis leads to another (ian), Monday, 31 October 2011 21:47 (twelve years ago) link

yeah i can imagine that. maybe if you think of it as taking a break it'll be better, then you can be thinking of slinking into another spot when you get the urge to inflict songs on people again.

i'd be kinda into pre-recording i think, & also could then luxuriate in listening to myself on the radio, but that might just be me

Local Christian Blues (schlump), Monday, 31 October 2011 22:48 (twelve years ago) link

haha i never listen to my shows; i'm too self-conscious, i get embarrassed.
i emailed them proposing i pre-tape the shows, preferably on friday nights, cuz that's the night my wife works late and our scheduled would sync up better and make me not feel so much like i was missing out on chillaxin time.

one dis leads to another (ian), Monday, 31 October 2011 23:20 (twelve years ago) link

this might be a dumb q, but do you do this in the window, ian? idk anything about evr so don't know if there's another studio for pre-records/non-extroverted taping &c, but i always thought that was a pretty insane setup (maybe not nec in a bad way. i guess it's kinda like the one in northern exposure)

http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/images/reviews/84/1197218034_6.jpg

Local Christian Blues (schlump), Monday, 31 October 2011 23:29 (twelve years ago) link

ha. yeah, i do it in the window. it's got it's pros & cons. the show is in a late spot in an area with a lot of bars so drunk ppl bothering you is a problem. Can imagine it would be even worse on a Saturday.
OTOH, I am featured in the vacation photos of many european tourists.

one dis leads to another (ian), Monday, 31 October 2011 23:35 (twelve years ago) link

am imagining dustin hoffman at the chapel in the graduate but he's shouting SKYNYRD!!! SKYYYYNYYRRRRD!!!

separate afterlife in faraway albums of tourist families is just a manhattan plus i think

This show was built around the vibe I get from the Roxy Beach II song cycle that my friend recorded (I think it was in summer 2010?). He's the guy that was kicked out of Mah Jongg. It's great stuff, starting to seem like it's going to be a "lost" record, though. Friends from Cave and elsewhere provided assistance. Found a bunch of great lps at the station that had been misfiled, including that Social Climbers lp (which is fan-fucking-tastic)

I walked by you during this show...too quick to stop. I had just had a belated birthday dinner with my girlfriend and my family at Dirt Candy and we had to kill time before a party in WB so we ran down to the Sunshine to see the new Almodovar. It was a pretty great experience because it was maybe the first saturday night we'd been in the east village in like 4 years and we were just commenting on all the assholes and terrible people and how shitty manhattan can be especially on a weekend and as we got near EVR suddenly we heard this awesome serious old-timey music and it was this great disconnect, between the music and the scene on the street.
