That weekend has been somewhat fucked up by Belle and bloody Sebastian.

Ally C (Ally C), Saturday, 1 May 2004 14:17 (twenty years ago) link

Won't 10,000 cardie-wearing biscuit nibblers provide a pool from which to fill The Winchester Club? The B&S event is supposed to finish at 9 pm, after all.

Mooro (Mooro), Saturday, 1 May 2004 14:27 (twenty years ago) link

Yes, but evil Murdoch will no doubt overrun his set and then lead the impressionable children a merry dance to some 'aftershow party'.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 1 May 2004 14:35 (twenty years ago) link

I am to explain.

my words, to do so, are: there after show parties and poofs.

ally said I also have to say that the people that like belle & sebastian, these days, are mentalists and the national pop league john is DJing, after, maybe, who knows?

everyone, obviously, should want to see PIPAS. no mentalists, here.

crosspost

Get someone, say who used to be involved in the running of the Winch', and who might be on stage that afternoon/evening, to tell the people in the Botanical Gardens that they should go to see Pipas. Then get Pipas to play a late set of danceable tunes.

There is room for the Art School & you. It can all work out. (Failing this, you can tunnel into the Art School & sabotage their power supply or something.)

Mooro (Mooro), Saturday, 1 May 2004 14:46 (twenty years ago) link

I think the only solution is to inflate Pipas and fly them from the Tennents brewery towers.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 1 May 2004 14:48 (twenty years ago) link

Lupe idea.

Mooro (Mooro), Saturday, 1 May 2004 14:53 (twenty years ago) link

I am so looking forward to that weekend. B&S related shenanigans in Glasgow are always much fun. On a related note, I may be trying London more in July.

It has just occurred to me that I haven't really tried Glasgow since the March Winchester. Which seems wrong somehow.

Incidentally, "going to the Winchester" has taken on new levels of silliness chez us thanks to Shaun of the Dead. You should utilise this new-found fame somehow.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 1 May 2004 15:24 (twenty years ago) link

OI!

I'm about to depart, so I'll just mindlessly plug Shirokuma @ fireworks on Thursday night.

People behind me in the cinema tittered when Liz said "We're not going to the bloody Winchester again" or something. I wondered who they were.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 1 May 2004 15:42 (twenty years ago) link

Wasn't me. Or the other half. Unless you were at the Odeon at the Quay on Monday...

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 1 May 2004 16:02 (twenty years ago) link

bear in mind that customs regulations regarding livestock/agriculture probably prohibig me from returning to america as a pig.
i hate ryan air. i don't know what i was thinking. i'm looking at cunard's site now, for fun. the queen mary 2 has its own planetarium, and a kennel.

See - it's starting already.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 1 May 2004 16:34 (twenty years ago) link

Lauren, you could come as Beef Jerky. My beef jerky made it to Glasgow undiscovered.

Madchen (Madchen), Saturday, 1 May 2004 17:36 (twenty years ago) link

I was going to post something so disgusting that you wouldn't have been able to believe it was realy me.

Saturday = Eurovision. Wanna come over to mine for a party? It could also be a sort of housewarming/51 week anniversary of getting the keys.

You know you want to.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:08 (twenty years ago) link

I'm not sure I do but I probably will.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:09 (twenty years ago) link

Ooh can I come? Even if RJG doesn't? I don't think I've missed a Eurovision since I was eight or nine, though I usually fall asleep before the end. I think I'm voting for Bosnia already.

Britain is still in isn't it? I thought we'd be relegated, but I vaguely remember being told that only no-money countries can be relegated, and we're exempt.

Turkey's song last year was brilliant.

Cathy (Cathy), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:15 (twenty years ago) link

I only meant I wasn't sure because I am not at full fitness (and one should be, really, for eurovision) and not because I don't want to be in madchen's house.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:16 (twenty years ago) link

We're exempt because it was our idea. Of course you can come. Does that email address work? I'll send you my real life address.

RJG, have you been in my house before? I'm thinking the only people who've been in my house are Ally, N, family and non-Glasgow people. Oh, and my ex-boss.

I haven't been in your new house, no, even thought you have been, for a while. I like to leave my house as little as possible, as I'm sure many would testify.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:20 (twenty years ago) link

Thanks, Madchen. Yes my email should work.

I think I'm getting pity fatigue, RJG.

Cathy (Cathy), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:20 (twenty years ago) link

that's a pity.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:21 (twenty years ago) link

I should be putting these pictures on another thread.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:23 (twenty years ago) link

No, it'll be OK when Scotland wins the competition & Eurovision tries Glasgow more because its hosting the event.

Mooro (Mooro), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:25 (twenty years ago) link

Yeah, I just noticed there's a proper Eurovision thread. For Eurovision purposes Scotland is just an unimportant province of England. Although if it were ever to break away, maybe it could be the new Ireland.

Cathy (Cathy), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:28 (twenty years ago) link

or wales.

20 million can't be right.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:29 (twenty years ago) link

20 million can't be wrong!

I just realised the first Eurovision I remember clearly was in 1991, when France and Sweden drew but Sweden won because they had more 12s. 1991 is also the first year I remember knowing what year it was. So I haven't missed one since I was 6.

Cathy (Cathy), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:35 (twenty years ago) link

I thought 1987 was a double year when i was young.

Robbie Lumsden (Wallace Stevens HQ), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:36 (twenty years ago) link

Stop making us feel ancient. I've emailed you Cathy.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:37 (twenty years ago) link

so, what about that maryhill blowing up, again, eh?

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:38 (twenty years ago) link

A double year? I don't understand.

Pretty much everything I know about European geography I learnt from Eurovision...

Thanks Madchen :)
