i really dislike the og but this seems pretty cool ...

BiG HoOs is the one claim!!! (deej), Monday, 14 September 2009 16:57 (fourteen years ago) link

^they seem to have a knack for finding redeemable things about generally annoying songs

psychgawsple, Tuesday, 15 September 2009 05:25 (fourteen years ago) link

basically w/ this & the shwayze i think its that they take borderline-nihilistic emotionally-retarded hipstro-detachment & turn it into, u know, feeling

not sure they quite pull it off with this one but maybe thats more interesting? Actually they do pull it off circa "...and our eyes might meet?" i think i can hear that question mark

BiG HoOs is the one claim!!! (deej), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 05:52 (fourteen years ago) link

yea that synth line makes her voice so much more tolerable. also props for minimizing the awful 'ayayayaya' bits

* What influences your music though?

We're really into early analog electronic music like ‘Kraftwerk’ and then bands like ‘Depeche Mode’. I think one of the first people that really brought us to dance music was ‘Stuart Price’ (aka Jaques Lu Cont, Paper Faces, Man With Guitar, Thin White Duke, Les Rhythmes Digitales…etc.) that was one of the first artists that made me realize not all dance music was cheesy & the ‘DFA’ too. Right now we are really into ‘Simian Mobile Disco’ because their sound seems a lot more timeless than a lot of the other producers right now. That’s what we're striving for.

where's that interview from?

i like the aeroplaney disco remixes they've been coming out with but i wish they'd put out a couple more big hard-hitters like cold act ill. also when they were known as young americans they did a great remix of 'bombs' by scanners

AMAZING SHOW TODAY.

Love how the blonde one sings along to everything. Even if every tune wasn't amazing his enthusiasm is so infectious you'd force yourself to like it.

Also love the way he claps and holds his hands together.

do they have any good mixes i can check out? i know they feature heavily in older aeroplane monthly-mixes, but i want more!

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Sunday, 3 October 2010 21:00 (thirteen years ago) link

There's a mix they did for KCRW last year that's really excellent, about 45 minutes. Don't know of anything they've done since then. I'm excited to see them again next week!

I DIED, Sunday, 3 October 2010 21:07 (thirteen years ago) link

ah, just noticed somebody mentioned that upthread too

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Sunday, 3 October 2010 21:21 (thirteen years ago) link

the krcw mix is cool but its not really whats good abt them as DJs ... when i saw them they just read the room really well & seemed to have a good idea of what songs were working & what werent. the krcw thing felt more like a 'curated mix'

thank you based mod (deej), Sunday, 3 October 2010 22:05 (thirteen years ago) link

aw baker street <3

chronicles of ridically (samosa gibreel), Sunday, 3 October 2010 22:24 (thirteen years ago) link

Goddamn these guys are great DJs - seen them on a Saturday and a Wednesday and, per deej's post, they read the crowd really well both times and played very different sets but captured the audience both times.

Saw these guys supporting Cut Copy last night. They are huge amounts of fun live. Was really surprised how great I'll Get You was. It's always been one of my least favourites on the album but it sounded so exciting last night. They ended with All You're Waiting For (sadly Nancy appeared only on screen) which was the big highlight. They also did a couple of covers (songs by The Preachers and Yacht) Think I'm going to playing this album a lot for the second summer in a row.

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 26 June 2014 16:32 (nine years ago) link
