What if a giant shark ate the plane?

Better than the US trailer. Delivers the Statham vs. shark action I was hoping for. I am officially sold.

Yeah, I liked Deep Blue Sea.

Was hoping this was going to be about the other half of White Stripes story - the part that is never told - starring Jason as Jack with drumsticks flying at his face.

I love(d) Deep Blue Sea, one of my favorite stupid H'wood monster movies (along with Anaconda), but the FX unfortunately haven't held up.

So yeah, this is really good - not Samuel F Jackson / LL Cool J great, but a very solid and entertaining shark movie. It's maybe a little overstuffed with characters (and doesn't kill nearly enough of them), and very obviously looking to make a lot of money in China (and based on a quick survey of who's going to see it on a rainy Sunday in London, I'm guessing that's going to pay off).

August 14th must be The Meg day.

This was good fun, a thing lots of people on IMDb seem to hate.

Not that I could in good conscience give it more than two out of five, but why would you expect anything else. It knows what it is, it's quite funny and I didn't hate anyone in the cast.

Noel Emits, Sunday, 15 August 2021 10:29 (two years ago) link

yeah, this was a satisfying good time at the movies when it came out. sometimes you just wanna see all the cliches and shark attacks, with some spirit and silliness.

tbf J. Statham denounced it based on expecting it to be more like the script he read, signed on to do, and filmed

Well he's up for the seq, which I'd completely forgotton B. Wheatley esq. is signed on to do!

expecting it to be more like the script he read

yeah i heard the original script was more of a heartfelt mediation on grief and aging, but the megalodon's character really got expanded in the editing

Pretty sure this ridiculous trailer ruins the handful of good scenes in this, but I'm never going to see it so had fun with this 2-minute highlight reel:

The trailer has not helped my confusion over Ben Wheatley directing this sequel.

p bad movie! first half is kind of endearingly clunky and dumb in a 90s direct-to-video way, just a parade of cliches and frankly confusing and murky action. second half pours on the action and gags but with a weirdly joyless and almost mechanical sort of energy. somehow basically had me grinning but there's a really *great* stupid movie somewhere in there, trying to get out.

I watched a load of the first one last week. Missed the first chunk so missed the set up. & thus the nuances of the plot innit.
Was Statham a sports person or something before he broke into movie making.

Also was surprised to see a Sharknado getting 7.5 on a movie review site a few days back. I thought they revelled in being shlock.
