The Unsinkable Mark S - "my theory is that there are only seven distinct ppl on ilxor at all" Just like the zodiac, uh, kinda!

So who are they and which one do you/your posts resemble most?

James Blount (James Blount), Saturday, 19 October 2002 00:39 (twenty-three years ago)

i am a composite of all lowercase snarky halfwits

boxcubed (boxcubed), Saturday, 19 October 2002 01:48 (twenty-three years ago)

This question is intriguing - but I don't understand it.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 19 October 2002 02:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm gonna say 8:

Mark S/Starry
Jess
Tom
Hanle y
Nicole
Nate
Ally
The Dunedin Hive Mind

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Saturday, 19 October 2002 03:33 (twenty-three years ago)

I knew someone was going to say something like "Dunedin Hive Mind".

rainy (rainy), Saturday, 19 October 2002 03:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll say

Mark S
Ned
Ethan Trife
Tom
Anthony
Dang Perry
Dunedin Hive Mind
Ally

James Blount (James Blount), Saturday, 19 October 2002 03:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Dang Perry.

Haha.

Andrew (enneff), Saturday, 19 October 2002 03:54 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm an Ally with Jess/Ethan Trife rising.

felicity (felicity), Saturday, 19 October 2002 03:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I like Finney's plan because that makes it a lot easier to figure out what I am. Blount's, I'm not so sure. And what the hell would a "Nate" sign mean, anyways? "Enthusiastic until flamed, then becomes obnoxiously self-deprecating and light-treading; has fairly predictable and 'safe' though not horrible taste"?

Nate Patrin, Saturday, 19 October 2002 04:05 (twenty-three years ago)

What some of them might represent (a la Chinese restaurant menu / astrological graph)

Mark S: Posts engage me even though they're clearly written by someone one million times smarter than me. Also: token 'guy I've heard of outside of ILx who posts on ILx'; see recent inductees - Gregg "our generation's Bert Convy" Turkington, Robert Christgau (one post so far but I'm crossing my fingers), and rather famously, Saul Williams and Simon Reynolds apparently, although I've never actually seen a Reynolds post (is he a lurker?). Leos.

Ned: Universally beloved figure, except by those who, um, distinguish themselves by not beloving the universally beloved figure (see: Trife, Ethan). Also, apparently responsible for 80% of the people who post here. Aquarius.

Ethan Trife: quintessence of two types of posters - 1) the authoritative voice on a genre most ILxors aren't authoritative on (see: Siegbran) 2) Puck (I'm thinking Shakespeare there, but 'The Real World' connotation might not be far off either to some people). Guaranteed to get people in a lather, prompt 400 response threads (see: Momus, this week at least). The straw that stirs the drinks, ILx's Randy Moss.

Tom: Posts (obviously) define the guiding aesthetic of ILM and by extension ILE. When Jess posts "what the hell has happened to ILx?" on an Indie/top 40 bashing thread, what is meant is that Tom would never start such a thread. (See: James Madison)

Anthony: Posts are able to successfully broach topics regarding highbrow culture, sex, and religion. Much more difficult than it sounds.

Dan Perry: All wit leads to...

Dunedin Hive Mind: Indicative of the highly localized tone ILx can take (see: any thread with 'FAP' in the title)

Ally: voice of reason

James Blount (James Blount), Saturday, 19 October 2002 04:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I will come to regret this thread I bet.

James Blount (James Blount), Saturday, 19 October 2002 04:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I am Dave Q.

Rainy & Ned are twins, surely.

toraneko (toraneko), Saturday, 19 October 2002 04:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Dave Q truly rocks.

James Blount (James Blount), Saturday, 19 October 2002 04:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Rainy & Ned are twins, surely.

:-) I find this (and James' kind words) to be lurvly. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 19 October 2002 04:41 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm a bit ethan and a bit rainy. HOW CAN THIS BE?

di smith (lucylurex), Saturday, 19 October 2002 05:10 (twenty-three years ago)

di smith (lucylurex), Saturday, 19 October 2002 05:11 (twenty-three years ago)

di smith (lucylurex), Saturday, 19 October 2002 05:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Ally: voice of reason

Where the hell is Hanley sign?

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Saturday, 19 October 2002 07:07 (twenty-three years ago)

And for that matter where the hell is Hanley?

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Saturday, 19 October 2002 07:08 (twenty-three years ago)

is there one that fits incoherent, scattered, changeable thought-processes? cause thats mine.

donna (donna), Saturday, 19 October 2002 08:04 (twenty-three years ago)

s'called david h, but it may have been copyrighted before me.

david h (david h), Saturday, 19 October 2002 08:10 (twenty-three years ago)

ILx's Randy Moss.

I originally read this as ILx's Sterling Moss. This is an uninteresting fact.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 19 October 2002 08:30 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't think that I am similar to any other poster.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 19 October 2002 08:36 (twenty-three years ago)

or to be more distinct not *that* similar.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 19 October 2002 08:44 (twenty-three years ago)

though maybe I just wanna be some kind of British Ned/Hanle y device.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 19 October 2002 08:47 (twenty-three years ago)

None of the above. Thank fuck.

I'd rather die than become part of a hivemind or an axis of tweevil.

kate, Saturday, 19 October 2002 09:03 (twenty-three years ago)

actually my more-evolved theory is more like the goon show than the zodiac: multiple characters from a single typist (of which there are seven), and made way more tricky by the fact that typists like nothing more than to mimic their fellow creators' successful characters

lemma 1: throwdowns = proof of identity (ie the seven never lose it with one another, since they are all typing from the same net cafe)
corollary 1a: the dunedin hivemind is exactly NOT that, but the actual seven
proof: when they sleep, where are we?

lemma 2: i am a character invented by maryann

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 19 October 2002 09:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Can I be one of Toraneko's identities, please?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 19 October 2002 10:54 (twenty-three years ago)

I hate it that I do not understand mark s's lemma goon schema.

I don't think I am any of Tim F's types but that is because I am a rampant egotist.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 19 October 2002 11:24 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd rather die than become part of a hivemind or an axis of tweevil

You stole the phrase "axis of tweevil" from my Avril Lavigne rant! Which doesn't do the stances againts a hivemind much good actually.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 19 October 2002 12:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Okay, well who am I, then? I think I'm my own me. I can't be classified. I'm a motherfucking individual, you hear? Yeah! Fuck you! Fuck!

Andrew (enneff), Saturday, 19 October 2002 12:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually maybe I'm bits of Dave Q, Martin Skidmore and Lady Di all wrapped up in one.

Tracer Hand and The Pinefox are surely of a kind - they're both very mysterious.

toraneko (toraneko), Saturday, 19 October 2002 13:27 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't think of Tracer as mysterious. Maybe Josh is a composite of Tracer and the Pinefox.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 19 October 2002 13:30 (twenty-three years ago)

josh is about as mysterious as melba toast.

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 19 October 2002 13:31 (twenty-three years ago)

haha has ilx always been this self-involved?

mark p (Mark P), Saturday, 19 October 2002 13:34 (twenty-three years ago)

well as you know "mark p" there are only seven of "us" and "we" all live in just one cybercaff in "dunedin"

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 19 October 2002 13:37 (twenty-three years ago)

my face would be red if it wasn't so transparent!

minna (minna), Saturday, 19 October 2002 13:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Can't it be both?

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 19 October 2002 13:45 (twenty-three years ago)

don't question me please

minna (minna), Saturday, 19 October 2002 13:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm a motherfucking individual, you hear? Yeah! Fuck you! Fuck!

I'm not. < /life_of_brian>

j.lu (j.lu), Saturday, 19 October 2002 14:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Probaly a wannabe Tom out of the original options. However, there must also be a Sinister subset - people like me, Madeleine, Archel, Liz :x have all been influenced by our freaky cult. Don't you think?

Mark C (Mark C), Saturday, 19 October 2002 14:59 (twenty-three years ago)

sinister maps exactly onto dunedin i think: eg any given hive = the seven

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 19 October 2002 15:02 (twenty-three years ago)

or to put it another, equilucid way, any definable subset = the whole

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 19 October 2002 15:04 (twenty-three years ago)

i like being part of tim's choices but i don't exactly know what a "jess" is.

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 19 October 2002 15:04 (twenty-three years ago)

but mark, where do I fit?

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 19 October 2002 15:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Am I just a younger version of Gayle?

Nicole (Nicole), Saturday, 19 October 2002 15:07 (twenty-three years ago)

haha i almost said something positive about nicole but framed in saying bad about someone else and then i decided against it.

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 19 October 2002 15:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Go on, you can just say something bad about me. You know you want to.

Nicole (Nicole), Saturday, 19 October 2002 15:12 (twenty-three years ago)

We must not have evil so early in the morning. Even if it is 9:39 am.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 19 October 2002 15:39 (twenty-three years ago)

it's never too early for evil, but i like nicole, so tough titties lady.

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 19 October 2002 15:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Jess is a Cruel Monster.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 19 October 2002 16:04 (twenty-three years ago)

:-o

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 19 October 2002 16:06 (twenty-three years ago)

jess calls nicole "so-tough-titties lady" = guess who he dreamed abt and what happened in the dream

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 19 October 2002 16:11 (twenty-three years ago)

mark, i think we've established that the person i dreamt of was MALE, so what are YOU trying to say, hmm hmm??

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 19 October 2002 16:15 (twenty-three years ago)

it was saul williams!

Mitch Lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Saturday, 19 October 2002 16:16 (twenty-three years ago)

it was chickenbear

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 19 October 2002 16:21 (twenty-three years ago)

He had sex with God = Hanle y Deus

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 19 October 2002 16:23 (twenty-three years ago)

You stole the phrase "axis of tweevil" from my Avril Lavigne rant! Which doesn't do the stances againts a hivemind much good actually

Suzy was using it ages ago.

Graham (graham), Saturday, 19 October 2002 16:55 (twenty-three years ago)

She invented it.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 19 October 2002 17:44 (twenty-three years ago)

I am a 48 year old trucker named Lars.

Nicole (Nicole), Saturday, 19 October 2002 17:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I invented that (true)

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 19 October 2002 17:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Originality is overrated.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 19 October 2002 17:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I agree with Tracer.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 19 October 2002 18:48 (twenty-three years ago)

i knew you were going to say that.

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 19 October 2002 18:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Axis of Tweevil was what I once called Sarah and Lixi in jest. I don't think Avril Lavigne had been let out of her test tube yet ;-p.

suzy (suzy), Saturday, 19 October 2002 20:20 (twenty-three years ago)

i invented emoticons

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 19 October 2002 22:14 (twenty-three years ago)

and gravy, and the hairnet

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 19 October 2002 22:15 (twenty-three years ago)

i invented emoticons

I should pay you royalties.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 19 October 2002 22:16 (twenty-three years ago)

"hairnet" = precursor to internet

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 19 October 2002 22:17 (twenty-three years ago)

in which all communications traveled via the common louse

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 19 October 2002 22:18 (twenty-three years ago)

'hairnet' would have been a good name for this interweb thing - the image of a carefully structured grid of material holding together all these loose threads spreading all over the place.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 19 October 2002 22:21 (twenty-three years ago)

[censored] to thread!!

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 19 October 2002 22:21 (twenty-three years ago)

The Dunedin Hive Mind

Do I have to live there to be there to be a part of it?? I love FAP's

someday I visit *sigh*

brg30 (brg30), Saturday, 19 October 2002 22:47 (twenty-three years ago)

hell, mark s invented dunedin. "axis of tweevil". haha thats menelaus darcy in a nutshell.

di smith (lucylurex), Saturday, 19 October 2002 23:14 (twenty-three years ago)

ps i am not crying wolf when i say that earlier post actually WAS doorag.

di smith (lucylurex), Saturday, 19 October 2002 23:18 (twenty-three years ago)

they all were and so is this

doorag s (mark s), Saturday, 19 October 2002 23:23 (twenty-three years ago)

*runs screaming out the window*

di smith (lucylurex), Saturday, 19 October 2002 23:42 (twenty-three years ago)

i don't look like him but i am him

unknown or illegal user (doorag), Saturday, 19 October 2002 23:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually maybe I'm bits of Dave Q, Martin Skidmore and Lady Di all wrapped up in one.

toraneko do you dance?

di smith (lucylurex), Sunday, 20 October 2002 00:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Screw rhizomes. The hairnet is the better metaphor: Deleuze & Guattari's Milles Hairx, Miles Davis & Can's postmodern hairnettic fusion...

Keith McD (Keith McD), Sunday, 20 October 2002 01:41 (twenty-three years ago)

you mean "mille cheveux"

mike (ro)bott, Sunday, 20 October 2002 01:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Only when I've had enough vodka to lubricate my hip joints - but maybe I only *think* I'm dancing then.

toraneko (toraneko), Sunday, 20 October 2002 05:25 (twenty-three years ago)

you mean "mille cheveux"

as long as it has an x on the end.

Keith McD (Keith McD), Sunday, 20 October 2002 06:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Di! I am NOT an indykid! Really!

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Sunday, 20 October 2002 10:34 (twenty-three years ago)

wha?

di smith (lucylurex), Sunday, 20 October 2002 10:55 (twenty-three years ago)

wha wha?

di smith (lucylurex), Sunday, 20 October 2002 10:58 (twenty-three years ago)

BTW isn't this "only seven people" a Mark E. Smith theory? I mean actually, it IS, I read about it 2-3 years ago. He applied it to the world as a whole, though. Maybe the number was different.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 20 October 2002 11:06 (twenty-three years ago)

haha but surely the fact that Mark S is Mark E. Smith is the very first place we can trim the number of real people in the world? I mean, 'Mark S' as an alias is hardly even trying, and the song 'Mark'll Sink Us' is a dead giveaway.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 20 October 2002 11:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Ok then, can I be Andrew WK?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 20 October 2002 11:36 (twenty-three years ago)

no.

di smith (lucylurex), Sunday, 20 October 2002 11:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Why not? My name's ANDREW!

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 20 October 2002 11:45 (twenty-three years ago)

And I want to have fun and I want to get wasted

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 20 October 2002 11:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Goooall!

david h (david h), Sunday, 20 October 2002 11:49 (twenty-three years ago)

because there is only one andrew wk. he is not you.

di smith (lucylurex), Sunday, 20 October 2002 11:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, but HE isn't on ILE and I am. Mark S isn't MES either, after all.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 20 October 2002 12:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I dunno, I really don't think I'm that twee. I only said meep once! I like ROCK! I don't think I could pass for cutesy....

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Sunday, 20 October 2002 12:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah I think this Andrew guy should be me on ILE, he rules

Andrew WK (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 20 October 2002 12:13 (twenty-three years ago)

my dunedin theory is proving true i see

"there are seven goon ppl the rest are paste"

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 20 October 2002 12:13 (twenty-three years ago)

but what is a JESS??

(and no you cannot eat him.)

jess (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 20 October 2002 12:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Is that from his brief stint columnising for some Canadian (maybe) website? He went into more depth on this idea of his, it was a trance thing in which he couldn't whether he wanted to or not see people as anything other than one of 7 (?) actual personalities. Or so he claimed. Seeing as I don't live in Dn, am I a typist or a character?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 20 October 2002 12:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Doorag we need another "Mark S" reply

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 20 October 2002 12:29 (twenty-three years ago)

elisabeth, i never called you an indykid. i don't know if yr being serious and anyway i got told you invented "meep!" andrew you can't be andrew wk cos i said so, and since i am part of the dunedin hive mind controlled by mark s i am one of the seven posters who control this bitch therefore you must do everything i say because in actuality you don't even exist.

di smith (lucylurex), Sunday, 20 October 2002 12:30 (twenty-three years ago)

That's what I like you to think, yes. Enjoy yr "sentience", mortal

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 20 October 2002 12:40 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm not that serious! I thought maybe you were implying I was an "indykid" with yr comments about meep and mimsy or whatever, sorry if I was wrong. I did invent meep though, by writing a very amusing song which goes "meep meep meep". It'll be on my 7" (no not really).

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Sunday, 20 October 2002 12:44 (twenty-three years ago)

is it like that old song "beep beep" that gets faster and faster as the little nash rambler gets faster and faster?

di smith (lucylurex), Sunday, 20 October 2002 12:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't actually remember how it goes, it was a dumb song i made up when i was bored. What's a little nash rambler?

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Sunday, 20 October 2002 12:59 (twenty-three years ago)

It's a car, unless I change my mind

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 20 October 2002 13:02 (twenty-three years ago)

it's from the classical: "there are 12 men in the world the rest are paste"

and it refs a beefheart line: "[fergit fergit] the rest are hamburgers"

and THAT refs a kabbalistic legend, that at any one time there are just 36 [or actually number varies] good men aliver in the world, who by their goodness save the world from god's wrath...??

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 20 October 2002 13:06 (twenty-three years ago)

aliver and onions

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 20 October 2002 13:07 (twenty-three years ago)

and those men = the wu tang clan

jess (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 20 October 2002 13:08 (twenty-three years ago)

and those men = blazin' squad.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 20 October 2002 13:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh maybe he's lying then, it wouldn't be a surprise. So hey maybe Mark you ARE MES, since you seem to have had the exact same vision. I'm pretty sure this later revision did say "seven".

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 20 October 2002 13:13 (twenty-three years ago)

He's not: I've met them both and can vouch for their status as separate entities.

suzy (suzy), Sunday, 20 October 2002 14:51 (twenty-three years ago)

(that should fool them for a while)

suzy e smith (mark s), Sunday, 20 October 2002 14:53 (twenty-three years ago)

and those men = craig david (my god you know what i am talking about)

david h (david h), Sunday, 20 October 2002 15:03 (twenty-three years ago)

that should fool them for a while

I actually keep Mark S and Mark E in my basement. I use them to generate electricity.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 20 October 2002 15:27 (twenty-three years ago)

I actually keep Mark S and Mark E in my basement.

Ned is the twee version of Buffalo Bill.

Nicole (Nicole), Sunday, 20 October 2002 17:44 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't say I kept them salted and ready for gnawing on, dammit.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 20 October 2002 19:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Which ILX personality automatically makes every thread boring as soon as they post? Because that's my sign, for sure.

Mandee, Sunday, 20 October 2002 20:01 (twenty-three years ago)

If you read threads from the bottom up, Ned's last comment is pure filth.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 20 October 2002 20:26 (twenty-three years ago)

my mind is warped though.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 20 October 2002 20:28 (twenty-three years ago)

and it refs a beefheart line: "[fergit fergit] the rest are hamburgers"

That would be "There are only five great men and three are hamburgers" Since I was born in the German city of Hamburg, I've always agreed wholeheartedly with ol' Beefheart on this one. Even have it written on my wall.

Daniel_Rf, Sunday, 20 October 2002 21:41 (twenty-three years ago)

so happy I'm not mentioned in here...or am I?

M Matos (M Matos), Sunday, 20 October 2002 22:50 (twenty-three years ago)

See, Petra's been typing Ned all along...

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 21 October 2002 00:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't see how I fit into any of the above, but I still want to marry Mark S. I have a giant, giant, giant crush created by the picture threads.

Maria (Maria), Monday, 21 October 2002 00:20 (twenty-three years ago)

See, Petra's been typing Ned all along...

Well, that would explain why "Ned" always rides so high on the statscock...

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 21 October 2002 00:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Dude, I'm offended that I'm the "voice of reason". I spent TWO YEARS (or something like that) trying to come across as a lunatic, 6 months absense changes all that? Fuck all, that's wicked weak.

Ally, Monday, 21 October 2002 02:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Ally! At least you register in the ILX hivemind, which is more than can be said of me.

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 21 October 2002 02:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, I just want to salute the 18 year old new person who popped up on this thread, and who knows Beefheart lyrics by heart. 'A new face in hell', as Mark E Smith would yelp. Unless of course, it's really...

Momus (Momus), Monday, 21 October 2002 02:17 (twenty-three years ago)

...it's always Ned.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 21 October 2002 02:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Best review of Beck's 'Sea Change' I've read, whoever it is.

Momus (Momus), Monday, 21 October 2002 02:24 (twenty-three years ago)

I am Tom Ewing's 'misreading' of mark s.

david h (david h), Monday, 21 October 2002 10:26 (twenty-three years ago)

by my throwdown theory, mark s = momus!!

mark s (mark s), Monday, 21 October 2002 11:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, that would explain why "Ned" always rides so high on the statscock...

High and proud. Er.

Dude, I'm offended that I'm the "voice of reason"

Nonsense. It means you can look back and laugh.

Ally! At least you register in the ILX hivemind, which is more than can be said of me.

Bah, utterly untrue! I will have no more self-deprecation from the Good People. :-)

...it's always Ned.

Daniel RF doesn't need me to validate his existence. But it'd be nice if that were the case, that means the Nediverse continues expansion.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 21 October 2002 15:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Ahem. DOOMPATROL anyone?!

I'd put him in the zodiac and amalgamate the Tom and Ned signs into one uber-sign.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 October 2002 15:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Perhaps, inspired by structuralist narratology, it might make sense to claim that there are only seven basic types of threads on ILx and the so-called posters are merely functions of the narrative structure.

alext (alext), Monday, 21 October 2002 15:53 (twenty-three years ago)

amalgamate the Tom and Ned signs into one uber-sign

Isn't that the sixth sign of the apocalypse?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 21 October 2002 16:16 (twenty-three years ago)

that makes no sense at all alext: there are nine basic types of thread obv

mark s (mark s), Monday, 21 October 2002 16:16 (twenty-three years ago)

8 when school's out.

James Blount (James Blount), Monday, 21 October 2002 17:17 (twenty-three years ago)

You stole the phrase "axis of tweevil" from my Avril Lavigne rant!

No I bloody well didn't. I stole it from Suzy. We won't discuss where it came from originally. WELL predates April Lavigeurne or whatever.

kate, Monday, 21 October 2002 18:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah I was informed of this earlier which still gives rise to more hivemind theories, I thought I'd come up with it free from the hive but obv. not.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 21 October 2002 21:10 (twenty-three years ago)

ronan = suzy = doorag, according to my seven-lizards-of-dunedin schedule

hivemind s (mark s), Monday, 21 October 2002 21:16 (twenty-three years ago)

i mean "doorag"

hivemind s (mark s), Monday, 21 October 2002 21:17 (twenty-three years ago)

hivemind s, where do i come from?

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Monday, 21 October 2002 21:23 (twenty-three years ago)

mark s (mark s), Monday, 21 October 2002 21:57 (twenty-three years ago)

four months pass...
Ah, the joys of randomiser...

Finally figured out what it was that bothered me about this thread. With the exception of token female Ally, *all* the archetypes raised have been male. Female posters fall into their own separate zodiac signs, though I'm not going to be tactless enough to suggest them...

kate (suzy), Friday, 14 March 2003 19:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, suggest, suggest!

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 14 March 2003 19:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm in a mood for tactlessness and kate is good at this sort of thing.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 14 March 2003 19:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, I'm not worried about the tactlessness of who I will offend by describing as an archetype, but the tactlessness of who I will *forget*! I'm also bad with names, so I can think of the person, but never recall their screen name!

Here are the only seven women on ILX:

-Ally - Archetypical New York gal - bossy, intense, opinionated, sexy, sassy and HAVING MORE FUN THAN YOU

-Lady Di - veering between tomboy and sex kitten, she symbolises the lady musicians of ILX

-Donna - ILX's resident mom (that is yer name, right? I am having brain farts right now)

-Mel W - neurotic, insecure and slightly agoraphobic, but terrifyingly intelligent, and knows more about music than anyone else

-Sarah Clarke - the girl's girl. Top Shop and fags and wine with the boys down the pub

-Rainy - the sweet heart of ILX, she worries about everyone, and everyone loves her in return

-Suzy - the literati and the glitterati. Knows everything about everyone (and not afraid to let you know it!)

That was really difficult! I had to leave all sorts of people out to keep it down to only seven. And some overlap, so it's hard to figure out which of two people should get the name of the sign!

kate (suzy), Friday, 14 March 2003 20:28 (twenty-three years ago)

In which case, I am a Lady Di with Mel W rising. ;-)

kate (suzy), Friday, 14 March 2003 20:39 (twenty-three years ago)

I AM having more fun than you. All of you!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 14 March 2003 20:49 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't really fit in, I should go host Wake Up Wakefield or something.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 14 March 2003 21:02 (twenty-three years ago)

I knew I was going to offend somebody... sigh...

kate (suzy), Friday, 14 March 2003 21:05 (twenty-three years ago)

you know, i was never really sure just where mark s was going with this 'rip torn' thing, and then the other day i looked in the mirror and..

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Friday, 14 March 2003 21:15 (twenty-three years ago)

my life is small and empty.

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Friday, 14 March 2003 21:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Which one am I? I'm not having fun at all.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 14 March 2003 21:18 (twenty-three years ago)

I suck, OK? Delete my post. The chixors of ILX are individuals and not herdable like the boys are and I suck and I shouldn't have done it and now I'm going to go and boil my head and beat myself up it all and I am so fucking worthless why did I get out of bed this morning?

kate (suzy), Friday, 14 March 2003 21:19 (twenty-three years ago)

They're just sore sports, Kate.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 14 March 2003 21:48 (twenty-three years ago)

You only like my ILX starsigns coz yer one of them.

kate (suzy), Friday, 14 March 2003 21:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Pff, like you wouldn't be the same way!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 14 March 2003 21:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I knew I was going to offend somebody... sigh...

I wasn't offended. It was entertaining!

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 14 March 2003 23:18 (twenty-three years ago)

What about the men? Do we have to pretend to be a female sign and dress up accordingly?

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 15 March 2003 13:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Ronan, you haven't read the rest of the thread, have you? Go look up at the top and you'll see that SIX of the seven original signs were male.

Typical male response to female response to sexism... "Oh no, us MEN are being excluded!"

kate, Saturday, 15 March 2003 13:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh sorry, I apologise for my light hearted comment.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 15 March 2003 13:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Aw, Ronan would have looked cute in a dress.

Nicole (Nicole), Saturday, 15 March 2003 13:56 (twenty-three years ago)

ILX always struck me as male-dominated tho - maybe there are 6 men to every 1 woman on ILX? actually having stuck around for this long i've noticed more and more females so the ratio may be more like 5 men to 3 women...the 6 to 1 ratio fits ILM perhaps in terms of posts made...

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 15 March 2003 13:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I know I was all ready and all and now it's fucking ruined. And with it my entire bank holiday weekend. It's like being 5 and having your big sister and her friends tell you to fuck off.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 15 March 2003 13:58 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm like mel vs suzy. without the intelligence. my name is sMel

zemko (bob), Saturday, 15 March 2003 14:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ronan obviously you need to slut around more before you can really be a proper martyr to the feminist cause

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 15 March 2003 17:37 (twenty-three years ago)

cool, hstencil get your curvy butt in here now

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 15 March 2003 17:38 (twenty-three years ago)

i'll bring the tony conrad records and we can film it all as "downtown homage"

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 15 March 2003 17:39 (twenty-three years ago)

it will be like one of those tv movies with tiffany amber thiessen, only it won't have her in it

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 15 March 2003 17:40 (twenty-three years ago)

or hit fox tv show "fastlane." i'm bill bellamy, obv

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 15 March 2003 17:43 (twenty-three years ago)

shit, mine sounds so boring!

donna (donna), Saturday, 15 March 2003 17:45 (twenty-three years ago)

I am a satellite.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 15 March 2003 17:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Ach, yer only mad cause I couldn't remember if yer name was Donna or Lorelei. You are the mum that takes care of us all and makes us milk and chocolate chip cookies and stuff. Mmmmm, cookies.

kate (suzy), Saturday, 15 March 2003 22:44 (twenty-three years ago)

I am Ronan's bad uncle

chris (chris), Saturday, 15 March 2003 22:57 (twenty-three years ago)

It would probably be rather easy to do a statistical analysis of the top 100 posters or so and look simply at word count, profanity content and ILE vs. ILM postings over a span of a couple of months or so and then use some funny charts and things. Nabisco one fall on one end and trife would fall on the other and then somewhere in between you have the rest of us.

Millar (Millar), Saturday, 15 March 2003 23:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Dude, I think you're DRASTICALLY underestimating the amount of Nabisco-filth on the boards.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 15 March 2003 23:43 (twenty-three years ago)

It verges on the nabisgusting.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 15 March 2003 23:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Practically nabysmal.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 15 March 2003 23:56 (twenty-three years ago)

The one thing I can always count on ILX for is shit puns.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 16 March 2003 00:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I mean, seriously, we should get Richard Whitely posting up in this bitch.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 16 March 2003 00:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Sarah C___ - the girl's girl. Top Shop and fags and wine with the boys down the pub

Um? Top Shop, okay, fags - don't smoke, wine - for gods sake my favourite beer is Highgate Dark and my first consideration of a pub is "does it have beer" - you'd think this would be a given but notwith the GOTHS eh.

Are you confusing me with someone else?

Sarah (starry), Sunday, 16 March 2003 00:25 (twenty-three years ago)

You know what? Fuck off all of you. Moderator please delete my post. It was intended as a harmless bit of fun and now everyone has had a go at it. And while you're at it, delete me.

kate (suzy), Sunday, 16 March 2003 11:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I was flattered.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Sunday, 16 March 2003 11:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm a Taurus.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Sunday, 16 March 2003 11:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Me too - when's yr birthday?

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 16 March 2003 17:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Blimey. I wasn't insulting you, just pointing out that your description wasn't that accurate, therefore leading me to think you had just randomly put in my name instead of someone elses, sheesh... whatever! I'll drink wine in the pub if you want, but I'd much rather have some nummy Nut Brown Ale... mmmmm.

Oh dear though, in the pub yesterday I was drinking TEQUILA VODKA RED BULL aka LOOPY JUICE. I'm off for a sossidge butty...

Sarah (starry), Monday, 17 March 2003 09:30 (twenty-three years ago)

OK, I have realised that the wine thing was actually Emma. But the rest of it STET!

kate, Monday, 17 March 2003 09:32 (twenty-three years ago)

I hate those bloody fags!!!

Sarah (starry), Monday, 17 March 2003 09:33 (twenty-three years ago)

(See what I did there)

Sarah (starry), Monday, 17 March 2003 09:34 (twenty-three years ago)

The whole thing's Emma I think.

(Kate yr post was a good idea and I larfed.)

Tom (Groke), Monday, 17 March 2003 11:04 (twenty-three years ago)
