Have we done this?

What food do you detest and refuse to digest?

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 19:47 (twenty-three years ago)

brussel sprouts, little petrified cabbages, urrrgggghhh.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 19:49 (twenty-three years ago)

I like watermelon and cucumber...but my digestive system doesn't.

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 19:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Candied yams just SOUND wrong.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 20:00 (twenty-three years ago)

but they taste so right, ned.

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 20:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Is meat a food?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 20:01 (twenty-three years ago)

So many:
The big, common ones are milk (not lactose intolerant, just hate milk), tomatos, cucumbers, yogurt, bananas, mushrooms, and most seafood (but especially, especially tuna fish).

Nick A., Wednesday, 30 October 2002 20:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Ooh! I hate milk too! And mushrooms!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 20:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Candied yams just SOUND wrong.

Oh, if we're talking aesthetically displeasing, add glazed ham to the list. And this is rather rockist of me, but I believe that meat dishes should never be sweet.

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 20:07 (twenty-three years ago)

organs or muscles of any kind.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 20:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Condiments:

Mayonnaise, mustard, cocktail sauce, horseradish, pickle relish, sauerkraut, most creamy salad dressings.

Surf/Turf:

Liver, fish (I only order it when I'm at a seafood restaurant that has a reputation for serving nothing but the freshest fish -- not out of snobbery, but because the taste and smell of less-than-fresh fish makesm me sick), salami, anything that's been sitting in an icky gelatinous brine.

Vegetables:

Eggplant, olives, raw tomatoes (I love them cooked), raw garlic.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 20:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Mayonnaise. A big ol' jar of sloppy Mayonnaise.
I'm feeling sick.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 20:23 (twenty-three years ago)

bananas.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 20:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Cheese and mushrooms (and of course meat). Ugh.

Douglas, Wednesday, 30 October 2002 20:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Loads, perhaps most. Worst is spiced food. Couple of years back I went to a birthday do for four friends (within 3 days of each other!) at an Indian restaurant - but I was assured they'd do me a bit of chicken, unspiced. They wouldn't - they were very indignant about the idea of an Indian restaurant doing such things*. They did bring me something with "virtually" no spice, won't even be able to taste it, etc. One mouthfull: spit it out, feeling sick, can't eat at all (despite being really hungry) for over a day, first migraine of my life. I have found that when I think I am saying "I cannot tolerate any spice", they are hearing "I tried something really spicey once and didn't really like it", so now I claim an allergy, which may or may not be true.

*I resisted making the point that in all of the Indian restaurants I'd visited in India, it had been no problem at all.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 20:58 (twenty-three years ago)

you are all nuts!!

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 21:01 (twenty-three years ago)

b-b-but the spice is life.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 21:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Good God, Martin, that is MY IDEA OF HELL. I cannot step into a kitchen without looking for salt, pepper, garlic, onion, cumin, turmeric, tarragon, thyme, basil, sage, rosemary, mmmm.....

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 21:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I have a weak stomach, but I always make an exception for spicy food. It's soooo worth suffering the consequences.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 21:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm with Dan here -- no spices, no fun! Mexican, Thai, Vietnamese and Indian recipes, to mention four favoured general groupings of cuisines of mine, would be nothing without them.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 21:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Also, I'm slightly lactose intolerant, so I get sick if I eat too much dairy -- as much as I like them, I try to avoid cream sauces and heavy desserts.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 21:24 (twenty-three years ago)

It's spices, not all strongly flavoured things - salt, garlic and herbs, for instance, are no problem at all for me.

And it's unconnected with a weak stomach - actually I have a very strong stomach in some ways, and never have any, er, gastro-enteritis type trouble when in those countries where everyone else suffers.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 21:26 (twenty-three years ago)

sort of --> hatred of avocados

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 21:29 (twenty-three years ago)

what is it w.the massed ilxor sarahs and mayonnaise?

i don't like malt vinegar

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 21:29 (twenty-three years ago)

B-b-but I understand what Martin's on about, although I rock the spice as many of you know. My mum tried curry in NYC in like, 1964, heaved, and won't go near it EVER.

What I hate probably started when I had chemotherapy: canned tuna is the main thing I will not touch - it's cat sick. I don't like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, pretty much avoid animal glands (shut up Dan) on the basis that those body parts you've allowed a surgeon to fix make the corresponding animal parts BLEAH. Brussels sprouts ming, full stop. Margarine, never. Squash, sweet potatoes and yams are pretty gross. American baked beans are vile and I don't really seek out British Heinz either.

But I used to hate egg yolks, bread crusts, all meat fat, mayonnaise (!) and those evil Jello salads featuring in all Minnesota summer potluck barbecues.

I think I got away with it due to eating any vegetable put in front of me. Also, I'd nearly died so every little food fad I had was tolerated.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 21:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I could not live without cardamon, tarragon, cumin, saffron, or paprika.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 21:31 (twenty-three years ago)

bananas, green things.

some red things, a purple thing, another yellow thing.

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 21:34 (twenty-three years ago)

mitch hates smarties!

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 22:08 (twenty-three years ago)

I lived with a guy who wouldn't eat anything green, another guy who wouldn't eat cheese except for pizza and Cheetos (i think they contain "real" cheese), and another guy who was all proud of himself for trying tomatoes. Every burger or sandwich I ever saw him eat was just meat and cheese. I lived with these three at the same time. Trying to eat together was a joke. Picky eaters annoy me. This includes vegetarians.

Stuart, Wednesday, 30 October 2002 22:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I am far worse than your three friends put together, Stuart! The only green stuff I eat is lime-flavoured sweeties. I do eat Edam as well as cheddar, but that's all. I only eat tomatoes in tomato sauce or Italian food. Every burger or sandwich I eat is just meat and cheddar. The only veg I eat other than in Italian food is chips and crisps. No spices, no eggs, no cream, yoghurt, no fish/seafood other than cod, no mayo, no mustard, no pickle, no vinegar, no nuts, no fat on meat at all. It goes on and on. It's only the spices that gives me that extreme reaction - the rest is distaste.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 22:31 (twenty-three years ago)

ILE except: any kind of whole Beans. The instant they're in my mouth I feel like I'm going to vom.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 22:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't like doughnuts or chocolate.

rainy (rainy), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 22:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Now that's just unreasonable and mad, Rainy! All mine are sensible things to hate!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 23:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Today I ate tuna with mayonnaise, and a raw tomato out of hand, and brussels sprouts, and last night I had liver, and there are some spicy yams in my oven right now, and baby bananas on my counter. Really.

I love everything!

Paul Eater (eater), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 23:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, except shrimp.

Paul Eater (eater), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 23:10 (twenty-three years ago)

lychees

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 23:23 (twenty-three years ago)

leeches

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 23:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Marshmallow fluff. And yams.

Arthur (Arthur), Thursday, 31 October 2002 01:39 (twenty-three years ago)

My current favorite snack is whole sardines with tons o' tabasco, washed down with buttermilk. I love every kind of food (bugs, potato chips, etc. I don't consider food but will consider eating in the proper mood). The only thing I never eat is McDonalds but that's for personal reasons, not of taste.

Kris (aqueduct), Thursday, 31 October 2002 01:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Yuck list: Liver, brussel sprouts, mayonnaise, eggs, raw mushrooms, garbanzo beans (no hummus for me, thanks), pb&j, any kind of squash, pumpkin pie makes me want to hurl, and eggplant. Also, twix bars - no idea why, just bleh.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 31 October 2002 02:00 (twenty-three years ago)

shellfish or octopus or squid. they're so hard to eat. oh and most vegetables, especially lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, peppers, and celery. (what does that leave?)

Maria (Maria), Thursday, 31 October 2002 02:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't like caramel/toffee/butterscotch.

I didn't like fish until I loved to Seattle & discovered the fish markets here- literally, you can buy stuff 5 minutes off the boats which tastes amazing.

lyra (lyra), Thursday, 31 October 2002 02:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Martin WHAT DO YOU EAT?!? Why don't you eat these things? The spices make you ill, but what's the matter with tomatoes?

Stuart, Thursday, 31 October 2002 03:33 (twenty-three years ago)

i despise mushrooms unless they are sliced and on a pizza.

meat, fish, and eggs are all scary

i don't like soy milk unless it is chocolate-flavored.

and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are ew ew ew

geeta (geeta), Thursday, 31 October 2002 05:08 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought that I hated oysters but then I had one that was deep fried and it was okay.

rainy (rainy), Thursday, 31 October 2002 05:15 (twenty-three years ago)

you can buy stuff 5 minutes off the boats which tastes amazing

so crass, lyra! just try a little and you might form a long-term relationship with one of them.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 31 October 2002 05:31 (twenty-three years ago)

''I thought that I hated oysters but then I had one that was deep fried and it was okay.''

must try this because i don't like 'em really.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 31 October 2002 12:16 (twenty-three years ago)

brussels sprouts = NUM!!!!

I heart the fellow mayonnaise hatas.

QUICHE!

But why?? I wub eggzess mmm scrambled/fried er ok that may be it (no! carbonara!) but something about quiche is EW. And lemon meringue pie, I do not like that either.

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 31 October 2002 12:21 (twenty-three years ago)

peas make me gag, but nobody believes me and they all say "don't be silly, eat them" and i'm like, "no way", and they're like "stop being stupid! they don't hurt!" and i'm like "they make me gag", and they're like "eat!" and i'm like *chews*.... *gag!*... "told you". it sucks.

g-kit (g-kit), Thursday, 31 October 2002 12:31 (twenty-three years ago)

IL Everything except shellfish, really. I am worried for the health of you people who don't eat any vegetables. Really, you should try to find some you like/can tolerate, especially green ones.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 31 October 2002 13:36 (twenty-three years ago)

There really isn't much I don't like, much to my shame (and poor waistline). The only thing I can really think of is cream chipped beef (it looks like vomit) and ice cream sandwiches.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 31 October 2002 13:45 (twenty-three years ago)

it's just parsnips -- it's like eating candle wax. Parents (and indeed most people evah) love them and think i'm mental. How come parents are able to cover up that they dislike some foods. I only found out a while back that my mum dislikes uncooked tomatoes (!) and both parents dislike olives (!!!!!!!!). There are plenty of things i don't care for too much (cauliflower) and some things that are RARELY done well (sprouts).

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 31 October 2002 13:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I hate cheese sauce, like the type people use on broccoli or in some pasta dishes, disgusting. I also hate capers, greatly.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 31 October 2002 13:46 (twenty-three years ago)

the brussels sprouts hatas = on crack!!

well obv as a vegan i will not eat most foods heh. and ov the hem hem vegetable kingdom there are very very few things that i don't like. in fact, i can't think of any! the most amazing thing is that when i first had curry i did not like it. but i was young and foolish then and have since learned the error of my ways.

i have also decided that Martin must be a robot! ;)

katie (katie), Thursday, 31 October 2002 13:47 (twenty-three years ago)

There are TONS of things I don't like (but also tons that I do). Apparently most of my food hates are irrational. e.g. mashed potato, gravy (well a teensy smidge on meat is ok but not on the veg / yorkshire pud and not on chicken), brussel sprouts, Dime bars, fruit pies / crumbles etc, offal, hot buttered toast (cold buttered toast is fine), beans on toast (beans by toast is fine but when the tomato sauce makes the toast soggy ew ew ew), porridge.

Emma, Thursday, 31 October 2002 14:01 (twenty-three years ago)

When I was a child I have no idea what or how my poor long suffering parents fed me! I wouldn't eat any vegetables except potatoes, I hated chicken and wouldn't eat red meat!

I have severe atopic eczema and it's triggered by various foods to different degrees so I can't have most artificial colours and flavourings, vinegar or caffeine and periodically I develop a new allergy just to keep me on my toes.

Since I left home however I've discovered that I'd never tried most of the things I claimed to detest as a child, I just didn't like the look/smell of them! So I'm gradually learning to love vegetables.

The only problem with this is that I now know I HATE peas and sweetcorn, they are the root of all evil and make me gag. My mother insists on trying to feed me them when I visit though, I tell her I don't like them and she comes back with, "hah - that's what you said about carrots!"

Plinky (Plinky), Thursday, 31 October 2002 14:04 (twenty-three years ago)

all food can be prepared in some way that i'll find it palatable. food rulz.

minna (minna), Thursday, 31 October 2002 14:05 (twenty-three years ago)

that said, i haven't eaten a boiled egg since i was a small pre-verbal child, but the smell is quite offensive to me.

minna (minna), Thursday, 31 October 2002 14:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Dime bars??? Madness.

I've thought of some more; I really really hate peanuts, and as a result things like Satay Chicken I find really disgusting. Also Marzipan, Coconut, and Cherry. I remember buying things like Dibdabs as a child and then having to throw them away cos the lollipop was cherry, ugh not only is the real flavour horrible but the articificial one is even worse.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 31 October 2002 14:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Yuck, forgot about sweetcorn. I swear it's just there to come up in vomit three months after you eat it (but corn on cob is excellent, go figure).

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 31 October 2002 14:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Artificial cherry flavour in the form of cherry coke = mmmmmm x 1000. Artificial banana or strawberry flavour = hurlarama.

Emma, Thursday, 31 October 2002 14:37 (twenty-three years ago)

They don't sell Cherry Coke over here for some reason.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 31 October 2002 14:41 (twenty-three years ago)

hm actually there are certain things that i won't eat not because i don't like the taste but because they make me go loopy. whenever i eat supernoodles for example i go bright red and moodswingy and tetchy. also i've been eating particularly healthily of late (all wholefoods, no sugar and that) and noticed that when i put sugar in tea that it made me go a bit loopy. i seem to be a lot more sensitive to these things than once i was.

katie (katie), Thursday, 31 October 2002 14:43 (twenty-three years ago)

i am the only one i know who likes "twist of lemon" coke. (diet coke only, obv)

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 31 October 2002 14:43 (twenty-three years ago)

twist of lemon coke is Satan's piss

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 31 October 2002 14:51 (twenty-three years ago)

satan's piss good or satan's piss bad? < / joke i nevah tire of >

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 31 October 2002 14:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Apart from liquorice and tripe and anything with the eyes still on I'll eat pretty much any old shit.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Thursday, 31 October 2002 14:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I won't eat old shit obv. (or new shit for that matter).

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Thursday, 31 October 2002 15:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Leeks! Urrrgghhh! They are the best friend of Brussel Sprouts.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 31 October 2002 15:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I like twist of lemon Coke. Actually, I like pretty much everything. I accidentally bought a tin of duck gizzards in France in September - foolgirl did not take her dictionnaire au supermarche. I opened them, thinking they were just bits of duck that could be reheated and served with lentils or something, poured them into a saucepan, sniffed them, retched and double-bagged and binned them before you could say BLEURGH! I suppose duck gizzards is where I draw the line.

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 31 October 2002 15:05 (twenty-three years ago)

only minna has expressed any sense on this thread so far.

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 31 October 2002 15:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Katie in going a bit loopy easily SHOCKER!

I'm a vegetarian who dislikes things with vegetables in them. Help.

(I mean like when they replace meat with courgette and pepper and stuff, rather than luvverly fake meat)

Graham (graham), Thursday, 31 October 2002 15:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I do not eat bananas. My tummy doesn't like them. Even if banana is just snuck into something and no-one else can taste it, it makes me sick. Eughck. Eughck eughck.

Apparently bananas make some chemical thing happen in your brain that stops you from being depressed. Perhaps I've depressed because of the banana free diet. Someone who is depressed, eat lots of bananas and then report back! Please!

toraneko (toraneko), Thursday, 31 October 2002 15:25 (twenty-three years ago)

there is a chinese restaurant on lisle street which offers "duck webs and fish lips": i always intend to try this yet when it comes to it, i wuss out and eat something i know i like

(i have had the five spice duck's kidneys => they are v.v.tiny)

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 31 October 2002 15:26 (twenty-three years ago)

actually i mean five-spice duck liver

haha 12-foot gizzards

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 31 October 2002 15:28 (twenty-three years ago)

The Bilderberg Soup

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 31 October 2002 15:33 (twenty-three years ago)

only minna has expressed any sense on this thread so far.

Jess hates boiled eggs.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 31 October 2002 15:49 (twenty-three years ago)

shhhhh.

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 31 October 2002 15:52 (twenty-three years ago)

jess do you like malt vinegar?

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 31 October 2002 16:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Ooh artifical strawberry flavour in strawberry milk = YUM x 12ft gizzerd!

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 31 October 2002 16:06 (twenty-three years ago)

is that anything chemically like malt liquour?

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 31 October 2002 16:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't even conceive of anyone not liking malt vinegar Mark. Fish and chips would be as dust in the mouth without it! But that's the point of this thread I suppose - to make us think that everyone else is terminally mentalist (if we don't already).

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 31 October 2002 16:32 (twenty-three years ago)

No! I hate vinegar on chips. Just salt. And ketchup. But no vinegar. Whenever people offer you a chip they have always drenched the poor thing in vinegar first. Grr.

Emma, Thursday, 31 October 2002 16:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Madchen - I had gesiers de canard at some restaurant near Perpignan this summer, and it was absolutely lovely. They kind of added salad and vinaigrette and stuff. My mum even explained to me that it was duck's gizzards before I ate it, and I still did.

Mind you, you can probably discount my opinion because I also like tripe.

lol p xx, Thursday, 31 October 2002 16:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Boiled eggs!

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 31 October 2002 16:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Mmmm I had some nice tripe & liver at an Ethiopian restaurant nr Kings Cross the other week when I was engaged in a Dave Q spotting operation.

I can't tolerate mustard. And sprouts are rotten monkey bunions (bad).

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 31 October 2002 16:52 (twenty-three years ago)

marzipan. celery. marzipan covered celery. okra.

although i like almonds. go figure.

koogs, Thursday, 31 October 2002 17:19 (twenty-three years ago)

There are only three things that I won't eat(so far, anyway):
mofongo
macaroni and cheese
olives

liz! (liz!), Thursday, 31 October 2002 17:30 (twenty-three years ago)

What is mofongo (apparently you can eat it)? I would eat that just so I could say the name.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 31 October 2002 17:38 (twenty-three years ago)

It's a garlicky porky ball of fried yum - it is eaty

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 31 October 2002 17:43 (twenty-three years ago)

was that the time you spotted me instead, by mistake, tim?

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 31 October 2002 18:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I second marzipan, the confectionery of demons.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 31 October 2002 19:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Raw tomatoes and onions. I'll happily cook them anyway you like, but cannot stand the thought of them raw.

My wife will not allow me to kiss her if I've eaten peanut butter within the preceding 36 hours.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Friday, 1 November 2002 10:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I just don't like those other foods, Stuart. It's more often the feel and texture than the taste, I think.

I do not consume oil, Katie, so my faultless logic proves I am not a robot.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 1 November 2002 23:30 (twenty-three years ago)

curry Goat, zucchini and okra.

Micheline Gros-Jean (Micheline), Saturday, 2 November 2002 00:02 (twenty-three years ago)

olive loaf

keith (keithmcl), Saturday, 2 November 2002 00:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Call me weird, but I refuse to eat french toast unless forced to.

liz! (liz!), Saturday, 2 November 2002 03:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I hate lasagna, any kind. Even though it's made of things I like fine I don't want them together. When my parents tried to make me eat lasagna when i was little they'd be like "Garfield likes it, you like Garfield" and that was stupid cos I'm not a cartoon cat.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Saturday, 2 November 2002 03:25 (twenty-three years ago)

peanuts, white frosting, raw tomatoes, green peppers, red peppers, water chestnuts, mint/peppermint/wintergreen, celery, Red Delicious apples, teriyaki sauce, anything obnoxiously overflavored with garlic or onion, quiche pie, Pizza Hut pizza (something about burnt cheese and crust that tastes like cardboard), anything cola flavored, bok choi, coconut milk, margarine

Melissa W (Melissa W), Saturday, 2 November 2002 05:39 (twenty-three years ago)

what's with this mass uprising against raw tomatoes?! don't hate!! slice them up and put some salt and pepper on them. raw vine-ripened tomatoes are the best thing ever

geeta (geeta), Saturday, 2 November 2002 08:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Raw tomatos are gross. As are: nearly all vegetables, seafood, and nuts.

bnw (bnw), Saturday, 2 November 2002 08:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Away, all of you. Shoo.

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 2 November 2002 08:51 (twenty-three years ago)

what geeta said + basil leaves

i wonder whether the tomato haters have been scarred by experiences with grainy tasteless mushy tomatoes?

minna (minna), Saturday, 2 November 2002 08:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Paul Kennedy and his dietary restrictions to thread!

M Matos (M Matos), Saturday, 2 November 2002 10:59 (twenty-three years ago)

raw tomatoes, just short of ripe (when they're good and hard) sliced w/baby-milk mozzarella, basil leaves and a good dressing are one of the most divine appetizers known to man. mmmmm-mmmmm.

M Matos (M Matos), Saturday, 2 November 2002 11:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I forgot to mention that cantaloupe is the sickest possible thing on the planet.
Watermelon ain't so hot either.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Saturday, 2 November 2002 11:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Baby-milk mozzarella is v. expensive because it's so hard to find mothers who will let their babies be milked. Worth it though.

Paul Eater (eater), Saturday, 2 November 2002 17:23 (twenty-three years ago)

ten years pass...

I was going to make a food ia thread but this seems to serve my purposes
I love so much food, but there's so many things that I have hangups about

- broccoli in all forms
- brussells sprouts in all forms
- cooked cabbage in most forms, more bcz it gives me painful indigestion, not bcz I don't like eating it becuase I do
- melted cheese that's been browned. ugh. scabs. gross.
- french onion soup where the bread is sealed on the top of the bowl with cheese, so you have no choice but to get all your bread soggy. so gross
- canned clams in shitty clam chowder. it's like, little rubbery pieces of ear or something. gross.
- canned olives. fuck. you.
- panda express. I don't know what the fuck that is but it looks like shellacked dog food
- canned cranberry sauce. or cranberry sauce in general. i don't understand it, i don't like it, why do that to perfectly good turkey

a year ago I would have said dark chocolate but I have learned of its ways and enjoy it immensely now

one month passes...

I've been buying this trail mix that has shards of cacao nibs mixed into it. UGH. The texture is horrid, they're like little teeth shards

gross

raw almonds/anything marzipan is probably the number-one flavour that makes me gag. 4.5 years of living in the US and i'm finally coming round on cilantro - i don't "like" it but i can tolerate it in small amounts now, without feeling like i eating dishsoap.

Beets (taste like dirt), Mexican papaya (the big ones, kind of a fecal aroma, and I've eaten and liked durian), and the sliced ginger you get with sushi (or chunks of ginger in Asian food, this is the soap food, not cilantro).

Beetroot, anything to do with aniseed or cloves
