Not Dastoor-names, your own real nicknames. FESS UP, YOU!

As mentioned a few threads below -- high school was my golden time of such things: Nedward, Nedrico, Neduardo, Nesbitt Ragu, the Grateful Ned, the Ned Kennedys and Ned Sex, after John Sex (long story). Then there was 'Brain on a Stick,' which gained currency thanks to one of the football players (who was actually a nice guy) and my 130 lb. weight and 6 foot tall height.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 31 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well I've got the obviously boring variations on my second name. Fitz, Fitzy, theres lots of other more embarassing variations but I'm not going to tell you........

Ronan Fitzgerald, Friday, 31 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ned, we did this while you were romancing your imaginary girlfriend. See here

Nick, Friday, 31 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

well, i've never really had nicknames as such (unless you count 'G'), but my housemates took to calling me Bradley earlier this year (after the S Club 7 man)

gareth, Friday, 31 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

whoops, i said the same thing there as well.

gareth, Friday, 31 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I plead ignorance. And I LOVE ignorance.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 31 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am apparently nicknamed Tart.

Ally, Friday, 31 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

One too embarrassing to relate. M&M, whore, Yank(ee), and brain.

Lyra, Friday, 31 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

In my early high school days it was Spike. Haven't thought of that in a while...

Sean, Friday, 31 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ned's Atomic Raggett! Ned's Redeeming Qualities! All Ned Guide! Ed and His Ned Mother. Ned Zeppelin! Ned-a-rama! Nehhhhhhhd!

As Andy can confirm.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 31 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

anthony, Saturday, 1 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am known as Doorag. My sister made it up. She thought it meant something gross.

duane, Saturday, 1 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Barfer, Martha, Arlene Brenda, Gnarlene, Arthur Gurley Brown. In high school it was either Punk Rock or Sid, real clever, ha ha. I missed being called Devo by a couple of years. In Junior High my older brother Jim's name in French class was Jacques, so he became Jock and I became Jock Junior.

Arthur, Saturday, 1 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

you may call me dolly anthony. but if anyone else does i'll kick their arses! but for the record, i don't have big blond poodle-hair and i don't sing country. and mine are real!!!

which reminds me, dolly parton once said "it cost an awful lot money to look this cheap". what a woman!!!!!

lady die, Saturday, 1 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

rainy, Tuesday, 20 August 2002 05:02 (twenty-three years ago)

I forgot to mention another nickname I was cursed with--Jorma! Thanks to my other older brother Mike, the Deadhead. He used to always wear a Jorma Kaukonen t-shirt so the asshole kids down the street decided to call all four of us Brennan boys Jorma. It was "Hey, Sid!" at school and "Hey, Jorma!" around the neighborhood. I was deeply offended at the time. And of course they pronounced it wrong, a hard "j" not a "y" sound. At least they didn't pronounce it "Whore-Ma".

And then there was Darvon/Darvaughn.

Arthur (Arthur), Tuesday, 20 August 2002 05:17 (twenty-three years ago)

i've been known as greg kitten to everyone for over three years now.

my name's not even greg.

g-kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 20 August 2002 11:07 (twenty-three years ago)

marky mark (everyone)
sparky (sistrah becky, dr vick, bin&rae, started by a v.drunk bill d who i haven't seen for years sadly)
meeester seeenker (ben t, based on something ozzy osbourne says somewhere)
sinky pinky (xXx)

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 20 August 2002 11:39 (twenty-three years ago)

dr vick also calls me "honey glass" sometimes, which = my v.occasional pseudonym

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 20 August 2002 11:42 (twenty-three years ago)

katie, katie g, Ktee, kat, kit kat, kitbells, and my boyfriend calls me whatever i am eating at the time followed by "face" eg, at the moment i am sossage roll face. also my mum has a wide and embarrassing repertoire of nicknames for me including katie bubbles bang bang, katharina bubblescu, and Fanny By Gas Light. the first 2 are apparently because i was v fond of blowing bubbles as a child, and the last one is what all the women in the family have called each other since i can remember.

katie (katie), Tuesday, 20 August 2002 12:12 (twenty-three years ago)

I once convinced a girl that my name was "Chappy Sinclair". Back in my younger baseball camp 250lb days they called me "Meat". Now Im just Chris or Noots.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 20 August 2002 12:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I endured Fatty, Piglet and Squidge at school (I wasn't even plump, it was most bizarre) and of course FOREPLAY (based on surname). Was Wagsbird (I can't even BEGIN to explain that one), Rachy-Roo and Archel at university. Then the boyfriend has hundreds of names for me, ranging from the fairly comprehensible (Rachy P) to the nonsense (Faceycakes). My sister calls me Pooface and always has - bless.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 20 August 2002 12:27 (twenty-three years ago)

oh god yes sibling nicknames! i call my brother "chis" cos when i was little i couldn't pronounce the "r" in his name (eg. chris), and it really REALLY bugs him, esp. when i do it in front of his chums/gurlie. so he calls me "chatie". or something along the lines of stinkybum. awww. i wuv my brother.

katie (katie), Tuesday, 20 August 2002 12:41 (twenty-three years ago)

At school: Adolf (I don't know why), Kevin (a teacher who always confused me w/my then best friend, and it stuck)

Since then: the occasional Meeder Man, a former girlfriend Coleen and I used to call each other Col, my lovely wife used to call me Honey Bunny ironically -- the irony has since fallen away but the habit has stuck. She will also call me Jerkface sometimes.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Tuesday, 20 August 2002 12:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Katie, those nicknames seem to be more embarassing to the people saying them, or do I have a completely misdirected sense of shame?

No one's ever given me a nickname. Except Katie.

Graham (graham), Tuesday, 20 August 2002 13:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I mean Katie came up with Grrraham, no one calls me Katie yet.

Graham (graham), Tuesday, 20 August 2002 13:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Grrraham / Katie's got a point there, Katie.

I have two main nicknames. I get called 'Foreskin' because I am the only person a certain group of friends who isn't Jewish. My personal favorite is Dunjun Mastaa, which I earned when we were talking about playing Dungeons and Dragons as kids, and when I said that I had never played, someone said "you look like you would have been the Dungeon Master!" I got back at him by tricking him into shooting large quantities of Malt Vinegar, but the deed was done.

Dave M. (rotten03), Tuesday, 20 August 2002 13:17 (twenty-three years ago)

heh well, GRRR!ham may have a point but i was only about 6 months old at the time of the bubbles-related nicknames, so i guess my mam wasn't too embarrassed about calling me that. i quite like them really in my heart of hearts!

katie (katie), Tuesday, 20 August 2002 13:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Vitoca, Geraldo, Gordo(Fat), Gordinho(Fatty) and the only used among more friendish: the horrible Pimbinha and the wonderful Ameixa(wich is a fruit but i dont know the name in english)

Chupa-Cabras (vicc13), Tuesday, 20 August 2002 14:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Very well Katie, but next time you want to embarass him just just tell the chums he used to call you Chatie. WHEN HE WAS 26!

Graham (graham), Tuesday, 20 August 2002 15:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Back in school some of my friends would call me "Jules," which triggered some amount of angst--did I come across as butch?

j.lu (j.lu), Tuesday, 20 August 2002 16:45 (twenty-three years ago)

someone in high school used to call me "tha grossface killah" after the Ghostface Killah from Wu Tang. I rather liked it.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 20 August 2002 17:30 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm still di, to everyone but my mum and my big sis who both insist on referring to me by my childhood nickname, dyezee, i think they like the tweeness of it.

di smith (lucylurex), Tuesday, 20 August 2002 22:47 (twenty-three years ago)

my new nickname seems to be THE BEAR. for a non-reason, probably.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 21 August 2002 01:46 (twenty-three years ago)

eleven months pass...
Bah - one of the girls at work just called me 'elfen boy' and another one laughed and said yes that's good we should call him that.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Teppy to thread!

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I get called by my surname quite alot & variations of this. people call me Sar, but only close people. My best mate & my dad call me Sarry (to rhyme with fairy) but them alone get away with calling me this. James calls me all sorts of nicknames, i like it!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

N., do I know your coworkers?

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 13:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Tumppi, Tuoppi, Tube, Tume, Jobi, Hattu. Also, I was once known as Techno-Tuomas, but that one never caught on. I'd like to have sort of a nickname which would function as a middle name, like Tuomas "The Ripper" Alho. Or an adjective before my first name, like "Lazy" Tuomas Alho.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Ally must have phoned the girl at N.'s work. A brilliant plan.

Larcole (Nicole), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

By my parents: Dolly and Cardinal
Grade school: Alanon
Figure Skating: Kitt
High School: Rainbow brite
University: Jazzy (because I said it was horrible)
The nickname I'm now called most is T (after a whole lot of things), but I'm also referred to as Tank, Tankeroo, Turk, Azlan (because of my big hair problem), and "the Caravan." I really didn't want "T" to really take off as a name for me, but that attitude of course backfired.

cybele (cybele), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I've had a pretty wide variety of these over the years: Nicklaus, Nikolai (optional surname Colmaninoff), the horrendous high school hip-hop moniker Nickel Bag'O'Funk, Nick Knack, the Nza, Supermoose, Stink Weed, Slim, Captain Fargo Winterkleez, and of course the "-alicious" thing.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude - Nick is a nickname. Doesn't that just blow your mind?

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

High School: Rainbow brite

I loved Rainbow Brite as a kid! Why were you called that?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 13:12 (twenty-two years ago)

My Grandmother insists my name is pronounced SA-ruh with a hard A. I guess that's a nickname of sorts. She also calls me Princess.

My Dad used to call me Lil' Partner and then Princess and sometimes Wiggles or Wigglebottoms.

My Mom calls me Agent Sarah sometimes (which she finds freakin' hilarious). She called me Lili for a while several years ago when I was trying to change my name. It didn't catch on with anyone else though.

NA gives me endearing names that I won't mention as they are supertwee.

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

H and variations on (French pronunciation, Spanish etc) H-Man, your Hness, Mr. H

H (Heruy), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

My grandma called me Kiki when I was little. My parents call me Pumpkin. Some people in high school started calling me Barbie, so I stopped hanging out with them.

kirsten (kirsten), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Two of my friends call me Spanna which I hate but can't bring myself to tell them so.

A good proportion of my male friends call me Fielding, or Miss Fielding since it fits in with the surname calling in their household. (This started because there were two Pauls, who became French and Lucas by last name. Marsh is fine, but how can you look at one of your male friends and shout "Hey! Overy!" Poor Tom.)

Lucas also calls me cupcake because I use it as a general term of endearment and he likes to send it back at me.

Fledgling is a quite nice one. Because it sounds a bit like Fielding and it means small bird (boom boom).

Anna Banana - hate it and always have done.

My dad occassionally calls me Gladys. I haven't the faintest idea why.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha! I've never known an Anna that wasn't at some point in her life called "Anna Banana". Nor have I ever met one that liked it.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

"Bald cunt"

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Weirdly, one of the tutors here just came in to ask me what they could call me to distinguish from another Rachel that works here. He suggested Racheling or Rachelette, which got pretty short shrift from me. However, are they worse than 'Rachel on Reception' which is probably the default?

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 14:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Perhaps -wise added to the end. Making you Rachwise.

I don't know where this sprang from but I now know people who get called Frenchwise, Tracewise, Vivwise, Gavwise. Actually it's stupid but it does trip off the tongue.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

The kids in daycare used to call me Falukorven (go google that if you're curious). The boyfriend calls me The Inspector sometimes.

Hanna (Hanna), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

You want real-world nicknames, huh?

This is totally obvious in regards to me -- Dee!

Um, that's it. Really, truly. Honestly.

*swears on stack of Duran & Japan CDs*

Jane Datsun (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude - Nick is a nickname. Doesn't that just blow your mind?

Ha that's the hippiest sentence ever!

I don't know where this sprang from...

Could it have come from "Sam" = "Samwise" in LoTR?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

some people have called me RJG in real life. it is funny.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I get called "Romykins" and other variations of rosemary by my best friend, (and I call her "Sally" and "Sazzerkins") but that's about it for nicknames.

rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

My girlfriend nicknamed me RJX-511. For real.

Dale the Titled (cprek), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

My best friend and I were referred to as "The Rainbow Brite Twins" because of our choice of clothing. I didn't own anything black until I moved to Montreal (age 19)...before then I was partial to bright madras dresses, purple leggings, stripy colourful t-shirts, fire-engine red streaks in my hair, leg warmers, bangle bracelets, patterned stockings, multiple scarves in my hair, etc. etc.

cybele (cybele), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

The Pinefox decided I deserved the nickname "The Kaiser2 and it's got a fair bit of use from Stevie, Tim, and a couple of others. I secretly like it.

Rather worryingly, "bald cunt" actually has become a nickname since dear, dear doomie called me it.

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Teppy Tep McTepperston Tepinator the Third to thread!

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Earlnash is a nickname.

Some frends made a rap song about me around 1990 with one of those cheapy Casios that can sample like two seconds, they sampled my name reversed it and it came out sounding like "earlnash" and it stuck.

earlnash, Tuesday, 19 August 2003 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

My dad calls me AJ or sweetie pie - has since I was a kid

my brother and sister have a variety of nicknames for me, which include heyyou, naby blue, and lil A

my friend Mark calls me punk ass or A-lo (I'll kill him yet)

and most everyone else calls me Aims at some point

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

shitbreak

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha! A-lo! Nice.

My son has the best nicknames evah: "Pookie" (kicked off by his momma's sister) is the most commonly used, but "Colossus" gets a fair bit of use (my friend Josh started that one).

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 16:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I get called "Smiley" all goddamned day by one of my coworkers. That tends to make me not so smiley sometimes.

My mom sometimes calls me Man Magnet or Maneater and sometimes she accuses me of being an alcoholic, that's kind of a nickname.

The guys at this bar I go to call me Al You Doin'. This is the worst nickname in history, until I heard they called my friend Manon (pronounced the French way) "MAN ON!" as if that was a dodgy comment somehow.

My dad calls me "Megan" a lot. Since that's my sister's name and it's usually followed by "I mean Allison", I don't think it counts. Similarly my grandmother calls me "Sharon", which is my aunt's name. I don't think I'm actually related to these people, which explains all the name/age confusion.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 16:24 (twenty-two years ago)

The kids in daycare used to call me Falukorven (go google that if you're curious).

I know what falukorven is! So you're from Sweden, Hanna? The Nordic population in ILX just keeps growing, even though we've lost Geir.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 10:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah I get called Fitzy by pretty much everyone I know, any relationship I've had with a girl always begins with them asking me whether I prefer Ronan or Fitzy.

Variations in the past have included, fitz, ditzy, fisty (ugh) and more recently due to growing beer belly "Fatzy". Wasn't that a character in happy days or something though? Worse still.

Sometimes people call me "Ro" and I probably like that best I've decided.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 10:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Tuomas>>> Yes I am. Haha, I don't really think I looked like a falukorv as a kid, it was more a pun on my last name, but when I have a bad day I still think of myself as the korv. Funny how those things tend to stick!

Hanna (Hanna), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 10:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Erm, how can a person resemble ett korv?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 10:40 (twenty-two years ago)

i refuse to call anyone by nickname, tho i will abbreviate all first names if applicable (steve, dave, bob, tom, matt etc.) - maybe only with male names tho, odd

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Once I got drunk (shocka) and I was bored (shocka) so I started doing the robot and speaking in a robot voice and proclaiming myself "Tom-Bot" which for some reason has stuck to this day despite the fact that most of the people I hang out with lately weren't even there.

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 10:44 (twenty-two years ago)

One person has called me Cozen in real life. Dougie Howser - which I hate. David Bowie - which I hate. Normally people just call me by my last name which I don't mind but I don't want people who don't know me to overhear and think that that is actually my first name.

David. (Cozen), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 10:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I have real issues calling people by abbreviations of their name without being given explicit permission to do so. If I find myself calling someone a nickname (like my colleague Holly who I called "Hol" the other day) I get desperately embarrassed. So I'm likely to go on calling people Jennifer or Robert or Felicity for years, and end up sounding like their grandfather.

This makes me hugely and pointlessly neurotic. I know.

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

please don't ever call me Stephen

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 11:01 (twenty-two years ago)

no we will call you stephenm

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

No no, Steve, I already know you as Steve, it's okay. But I think I called Cozen "Dave" once, and I've been feeling bad about that ever since.

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 11:39 (twenty-two years ago)

haha Mark C - I like it, I just don't admit to liking it. And even if I didn't like it you shouldn't feel bad about it, obv.

David. (Cozen), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 11:44 (twenty-two years ago)

The only not-entirely-obvious nicknames I've had derive from interweb mentalism and/or badgers.

I suspect this Ricardo thing might prove to be as enduring as RickyT.

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 11:47 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, so college was about the only time i didn't have a nickname. at little school it was the rather obvious hewee (pron. huey) from my surname, which then became squish when i was about 9 which stuck til i left school. i then renounced nicknames until the interweb. i still find it a little odd when people call me carsmile though (for the three of you at the back that don't know, it was the name of the rubbish indie band i was in when i first started posting on things, and i thought it would be like subliminal advertising, also it would distinguish me from the other steves).

i think i have called everyone here their interweb nickname at some point...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Teppy Tep McTepperston Tepinator the Third to thread!

Stop that! I don't even have anything to retaliate with.

My own real nicknames: Tep. That's it, none of the variations above.

"Bill" is not a nickname. It isn't short for anything, it's my full-on whole-enchilada nothing-held-back name.

Some online people have called me Doc, although I think most have switched by now. The girlfriend calls me Sparky. The friend who's just been visiting used to refer to me as Simon in online journals etc., after a character of mine. The cats probably have any number of elaborate titles for me in their witchy cat talk.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

(for the three of you at the back that don't know, it was the name of the rubbish indie band i was in when i first started posting on things, and i thought it would be like subliminal advertising, also it would distinguish me from the other steves).

Ah. Ah ha (embarrassed laughter) I always thought it was your real last name and pronounced Cars-mile.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Well I've got the obviously boring variations on my second name. Fitz, Fitzy, theres lots of other more embarassing variations but I'm not going to tell you........

-- Ronan Fitzgerald (fitzge...), August 31st, 2001 1:00 AM.

See how fisty has loosened up over the last couple of years.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

so...many...jokes

well just one maybe

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

and back in the same office too

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

**most traumatic nickname ever**
so i was an early developer, and my father is a judge, everyone in this small towm knew him as Judge Venters. some clever, vicious fourth grader decided to start calling me "Jugs Venters". it spread like wildfire, pretty soon i had no first name. it was horrible and i cried everyday!

Emilymv (Emilymv), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

er, "gabbneb". someone i worked for briefly liked to call me "research boy".

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

too many sparkies!!

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I aquired the name "Lambchop" a few years back. Dont know how it happened really...

Spinktor the Unmerciful (mawill5), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, it's better than Spinktor the Unmerciful anyway.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I have to call you Lambchop from now on. I don't know you, but that won't stop me.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

too many sparkies!!

That sounds both dangerous and thrilling. I like it!

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, he just called me Smiley again. Not making me so Smiley.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

In my time, I have been called "Penfold" and "Flash".

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Start calling him Thumbdick.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

"Flash Penfold" is obviously classic. Why aren't you using that?

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmmm...

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Memories..too..painful. Childhood...flashing...before my eyes.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I get "Smiley" too. Whether I resent it depends on the source.

There was a guy in college who called me "happy", which got shortened to "hap", because I was a rather exhuberent drunk. I could totally see running into him and him being all "HEY HAP!"...and completely forgetting my actual name.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

My family (and people who knew me before I turned 5) calls me Missy.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Do irritating things people have called you before being beaten down count? Cause: Mr Bill, Bill the Dill Pickle (what the hell?), Blueberry Bill (must be sung), Dollar Bill (fine w/ that, actually, a favorite of my Geometry/BASIC teacher).

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow, Mark! I forgot about DER KAISER.. I am going to start using it again.

Um, nicknames for me.. Mand, Man, Manders, Manderloo, Dee,... I have a secret ambition to be called either "Boots" or "Bootsy".

Mandee, Wednesday, 20 August 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I really never had a nickname, other than maybe my mom calling me 'peach' as a term of endearment. I like it when y'all call me teens or teenster on chat; it's a funny experience to finally have a nickname!

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 17:55 (twenty-two years ago)

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 12 February 2006 08:09 (twenty years ago)

Most common is definitely JC. Sometimes also Johnny, but mostly among intimates, and I get annoyed when certain people call me Johnny that I don't think deserve to have the privilege.

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 12 February 2006 08:28 (twenty years ago)

I'm Victoria in real life so that's become Vicky, obv, but also Cough Drop (from Vicks), Plum (from Victoria Plum), and Victoria Without Principles.

Surfer_Stone_Rosalita (Surfer_Stone_Rosalita), Sunday, 12 February 2006 11:47 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah! And Albert, after Queen Victoria's husband. [shrugs]

Surfer_Stone_Rosalita (Surfer_Stone_Rosalita), Sunday, 12 February 2006 12:14 (twenty years ago)

Teddles? Dear me.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 12 February 2006 16:44 (twenty years ago)

every variant on "charles" under the sun plus in the last year people have started calling "wogan" simply because they think that's a funny name.

Vintage Latin (dog latin), Sunday, 12 February 2006 17:09 (twenty years ago)

gabbneb

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 12 February 2006 17:16 (twenty years ago)

Got a problem with that, Nedling?

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 13 February 2006 01:20 (twenty years ago)

No, sweetums.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 13 February 2006 01:22 (twenty years ago)

My friend's cat is called Ned.

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 13 February 2006 01:29 (twenty years ago)

:-D

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 13 February 2006 01:32 (twenty years ago)

Hey Ed you forgot fuckface bunnykins ;P

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 13 February 2006 02:04 (twenty years ago)

That was a deliberate omission, along with several others that are no longer in use!

And now, to divert attention away from "fuckface bunnykins", here is a picture of Ned the cat. He is psychotic.

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 13 February 2006 02:12 (twenty years ago)

Aw, cute.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 13 February 2006 02:13 (twenty years ago)

chap who would dare to be slightly tipsy on the internet (chap), Monday, 13 February 2006 02:29 (twenty years ago)

When I was a wee kid, I got the nickname "Hardrock" from my older sister's boyfriend because I had a remarkably hard skull. It's where "Rock Hardy" came from.

pixel farmer (Rock Hardy), Monday, 13 February 2006 02:33 (twenty years ago)

Hahah, you know, I had wondered.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 13 February 2006 02:34 (twenty years ago)

y'know, reading through this thread, I realize that I might finally like nicknames - calling people by them, having people call me by them. I used to be, kind of irrationally, not into it at all (saw it as usurping people's power, betraying the original name, god, I don't know), and the warm up has been slow and I still have some parametres on it, but it can be really cute and nice! yaay!

Anyway, as that was the case, only close friends and family have called me by nicknames, nothing too weird - Rob, Robby, Robina, Robinder, RaRa, Robbo, Princess (my mom, obv), My Sistah! (my bros, obv). ah, and rrrobyn.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Monday, 13 February 2006 02:47 (twenty years ago)

I've had two. I guess they're ok. I certainly didn't ask for them or anything.

Wench - given to me when I was in the freakin boy scouts and it has lasted a long, long time. I'm sure I won't have a headstone when I kick the bucket, but if I did, you can bet Wench would be on it.
JW - looks short enough, but it takes longer to say than my full name.

jim wentworth (wench), Monday, 13 February 2006 03:20 (twenty years ago)

You're secretly Jon Williams, Jim -- same initials and all. (Hey, while I'm thinking of it, come down to Boston if you can when I visit! I realize it's not just next door or anything...)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 13 February 2006 03:21 (twenty years ago)

I'll check your thread for coordinates and...ya never know.

jim wentworth (wench), Monday, 13 February 2006 03:24 (twenty years ago)

Bubber.

jay blanchard (jay blanchard), Monday, 13 February 2006 03:26 (twenty years ago)

Hey Bubber! You goin to Beantown?

jim wentworth (wench), Monday, 13 February 2006 03:30 (twenty years ago)

Sometimes also Johnny, but mostly among intimates,

I swear that I did not mean to read that as 'inmates'.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 13 February 2006 06:48 (twenty years ago)

The inmates call me other things.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 13 February 2006 08:15 (twenty years ago)

I used to get called "James Ward" by all the other kids at school.

James Ward (jamesmichaelward), Monday, 13 February 2006 11:47 (twenty years ago)

My Swedish friend Maj calls me Doll or Docka (spelling? It's Swedish for Doll), also currently being addressed as Field Marshall, Anagramatical, Anakin and Red.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 13 February 2006 13:53 (twenty years ago)

When I was at school there was a dude known as the human armpit. Because he was, like, hairy and, like, smelt bad.

Me? Mash.

I know, I know, terrible.

Drooone, Friday, 27 April 2007 05:33 (nineteen years ago)

The Sarge - for my penchant for lists and organisation.
Krusty - some drunk guy misheard my name. Many variations on this one since. Krustos, Krustyburger, Krustmeister, now plain old Krust.
Kwuckee - my nephew's interpretation of my name and my favourite.

Hard like armour, Friday, 27 April 2007 05:57 (nineteen years ago)

A more recent nickname of mine is Grum, because I am always grumpy and grumbling so much these days ;_;

Trayce, Friday, 27 April 2007 06:06 (nineteen years ago)

I've never had a real nickname, but I answer to "Lozza" these days. Oh wait, and Laurelita.

Laurel, Friday, 27 April 2007 06:11 (nineteen years ago)

i cant recall offhand ever having a genuine nickname, & can off the top of my head only think of 2 guys that were that were consistently called by nicknames (best = 'dn', pronounced 'dean' later, dnr, ('deaner') who yelled 'birdseed' before every basketball shot. no one ever figured out why)

deeznuts, Friday, 27 April 2007 06:12 (nineteen years ago)

ok now i realize theres way more than 2 but most of them suck ass

deeznuts, Friday, 27 April 2007 06:15 (nineteen years ago)

That reminds me of some guys in my sister's year at school who used to yell "BIRRRRD HATCHERRRRR". They yelled it as the photographer took the year group photo, so when the photo came back there was a bunch of them with pursed lips.

Hard like armour, Friday, 27 April 2007 06:25 (nineteen years ago)

My school friends called me "Taff"

My family nickname was "Kina" (pronounced "keener") because it's what I used to call myself when I was a baby and couldn't pronounce my own name properly.

When I was a teenager I had a boyfriend who used to call me "Lassie". I was initially charmed by this, asking if it was a Scottish term of affection for me being his girl or something, but he said no, he had named me after Lassie Meaty Chunks, the dog food.

C J, Friday, 27 April 2007 07:24 (nineteen years ago)

Someone used to call me Nickodemus, but I can't for the life of me remember who. Nikolai and Nickerdoodle, by the same token. Perhaps my paternal grandfather. The obligatory "Nick Nick Nick N-Nick Nick Nick Nickelodeon" in grade school, of course. A classmate of mine, who is a semi-self-aware hair metal stereotype, calls me Nikki Sixx at all times, often in spite of the fact that he has absolutely nothing to say to me.

Dork nicknames: In Lutheran school I got called "Dictionary" a lot, as well as "the kid who believes humans are going to turn into dolphins in the year 2000" after I was outed as the only defender of evolution in science class. I was "32" to anyone who didn't know me personally in junior year of high school after getting the highest score on the ACT.

And finally, after an ill-conceived night involving 3.5 Sparks and two shots of bathtub moonshine in the course of an hour, as well as my threatening a man with physical harm for turning off ABBA (which I think I've mentioned before), I picked up the name "Noise God."

Abbott, would you consider "Six Pack Abbs" a cool nickname or an irritating nickname or would it depend on who was calling you that?

In "Bob" There Is No East or West (WmC), Monday, 4 October 2010 20:28 (fifteen years ago)

I have real issues calling people by abbreviations of their name without being given explicit permission to do so

I love that Mark C said this, because he is the only person I know who calls me ails. There's no way I would have given permission for this, but it's just one of those things now.

I think I might have been the first person ever to call CarsmileSteve CarsmileSteve to his face.

ailsa, Monday, 4 October 2010 20:39 (fifteen years ago)

WmC I have had every possible permutation of the "abs" nickname possible throughout my life. It would definitely be preferable than the nickname given by my manager when I worked at Taco Bell at age 16. She started out calling me "Abs of Steel" and then thought it would be funnier to call me "Abs of Flab." If I was trying to drink a six-pack faster than someone, I would definitely accept that nickname, to intimidate my opponent!

Mormons come out of the sky and they stand there (Abbbottt), Monday, 4 October 2010 23:18 (fifteen years ago)

people who know me from quite a young age or from school or growing up mostly call me "fitz" or "fitzy", except then one of these people told my work colleagues this and for a while they all called me "fitzy" too, loudly and in formal situations, it was really fun actually and i liked it as it made them feel like my old friends. also for a while had "ro-dog" which i'm not mad on.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Monday, 4 October 2010 23:24 (fifteen years ago)

hahaha, Abs of Steel is a good one.

In "Bob" There Is No East or West (WmC), Monday, 4 October 2010 23:36 (fifteen years ago)

I like it because it makes me sound briny!

does Red Stripe work like poppers? (Abbbottt), Wednesday, 18 April 2012 01:43 (fourteen years ago)

In over 55 years I have never had a nickname that stuck. My big bro tried several out for size when I was in my teens, but no one else used them, so they died a brief and painless death.

Apparently my given name doesn't lend itself to chopping, changing, or clever rhyming and I have no physical attributes worthy of nickname inspiration. In the world of nicknames, I am a cipher.

Aimless, Wednesday, 18 April 2012 02:56 (fourteen years ago)

My nicknames were all weird because they were just names. All through high school I was called "Lucas" after the character played by Corey Haim, because in a misguided attempt to fit in at my new high school I joined the football team as an undersized nerd. Then in college my nickname was "Corey Feldman" because of an unfortunate passing resemblance to the actor.
