Dust off your rave classics, get out that Clientele record, these London boys are in town and demand the pleasure of our company. Where to? LES? Or Siberia for a change of pace and some midtown action -- how is it on Sat. nights Jen? As Gareth says, "Make suggestions!"

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:45 (twenty-three years ago)

I say we rent a boat.

hstencil, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:52 (twenty-three years ago)

"well, well, hopkins on a boat my dear, isn't it delicious!"

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Bah. If it weren't the busiest weeks work for me I'd be there like a shot. (ie Wildly inaccurate and hurting innocent bystanderz).

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 15:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Gareth and Tim together? *weeps* I know Gareth is visiting the West Coast but dammit, TIM BETTER BE BACK FOR JULY 4. That is all.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 16:05 (twenty-three years ago)

hey man, even i didnt know;)

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 16:48 (twenty-three years ago)

At some point, surely! :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 16:52 (twenty-three years ago)

hey, none of that hey man stuff round here, you're not there yet.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 16:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Hate to scare you all, but I might be able to attend this one (and vote for Siberia or Bellevue around the corner, as I believe BOTH have Killing Joke on the jukebox....or at least did.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 17:35 (twenty-three years ago)

to the boats!!

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 17:39 (twenty-three years ago)

(couldn't resist, sorry)

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 17:40 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd rather go to Siberia than Bellvue.

hstencil, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 17:41 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd rather go anywhere than the LES, we've been doing that forever now.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 17:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Queens!

hstencil, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 17:48 (twenty-three years ago)

(Psst Tim when are you back from NYC? Before the 21st?)

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 17:49 (twenty-three years ago)

There's a rumour that Siberia and Bellevue are secretly connected via some tunnel action.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Cool, I'll be there. Wherever there is. If I haven't thrown myself under a bus by then.

rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:03 (twenty-three years ago)

If I haven't thrown myself under a bus by then.

No!!!!

hstencil, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I mean, uh, rosemary that would be awful!

hstencil, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Rosemary....don't do that.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:06 (twenty-three years ago)

:-(

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:07 (twenty-three years ago)

dont do that rm!!

i will be there!! honor the fire fuXoRz

geeta (geeta), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:12 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't miss honoring the fire.

rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:18 (twenty-three years ago)

if I ever went to NYC, I'd want a Coney Island FAP. This is probably mentalism.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:24 (twenty-three years ago)

You can FAP with Russians.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Jesus With Me FAP!

hstencil, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Siberia is much larger than Bellevue, all the better to accommodate this gang. They even have stackable plastic chairs for extra seating, which is a bit odd but also a good idea. And both jukeboxes (one on each floor) are indeed excellent.

Damn, are we actually going to have a FAP in midtown? I'll be able to just walk over (and stumble back)?

Jen (nstop), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 19:44 (twenty-three years ago)

CONEY ISLAND FAP WOULD BE THE GREATEST THING IN HISTORY GODDAMNIT.

I'd go to Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Midtown, Uptown, fucking Yonkers dude. I'm just tired of the LES.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 19:47 (twenty-three years ago)

CONEY ISLAND FAP WOULD BE THE GREATEST THING IN HISTORY GODDAMNIT.

Can we do that sometime in July, then? Or would that be too crowded?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 19:51 (twenty-three years ago)

WE'RE GOING TO NEED A BIGGER BOAT

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:06 (twenty-three years ago)

"I'm so bo - o - ored of the L - E - S"

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:08 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd go to Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Midtown, Uptown, fucking Yonkers dude. I'm just tired of the LES.

Haha Ally you never even come to FAPs anymore!

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:12 (twenty-three years ago)

(and then they were too bored to all LES up)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:13 (twenty-three years ago)

how sad

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I came to the last one! I have been working so much I cannot come at all but now I have said "fuck it!" and do not work at all anymore! I'd come to more FAPs if they were in places besides LES, I promise. LES is a pain in the ass to get to 90% of the time (I HAD TO CLIMB A 4 FOOT SNOW DRIFT THAT WAS UNPLOWED, IN STILETTOS, LAST FAP! THIS WAS A DISASTER OF MONUMENTAL PROPORTIONS!), all those other areas are somehow more convenient to get to, so I could work late, go to a FAP, and get back in a reasonable amount of time. There are nights when a FAP in Hoboken would be easier for me to get to than one on Orchard Street.

That's my sad story and I am telling it walking, don't worry.

Though I did just open up an immense opportunity for destroying New Jersey.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:18 (twenty-three years ago)

do not worry ally, we are strking out for the midtown!

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:26 (twenty-three years ago)

maybe someone should have a PARTY at their PLACE instead of this beery flailing?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:27 (twenty-three years ago)

("striking out for the midtown"! awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd rather have beery flailing at a bar than at my place. Someone else cleans it up, yo. (Plus my place is hella small and my roommates are slobs.)

hstencil, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I would consider throwing a party at my house, but then we'd be LESing it up again and Ally would start fucking shit up. Sadly I doubt I can make the 3/15 gala 'cause I have some baseball dorking out to do. Hahah I'm lame.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:33 (twenty-three years ago)

baseball dorking?

hstencil, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:40 (twenty-three years ago)

I believe Tracer Hand just invited us to his palacial 2-story apartment WITH A BACKYARD in Brooklyn. Who else read his post that way? Hands up!

I'd have a party at my house. You all can fuck shit up, I'm trying to fuck the joint up.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:42 (twenty-three years ago)

A fantasy baseball draft all day with friends, and then a post-draft celebration that night. A couple of people are actually flying in from LA for this. Someone punch me.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Yancey, if we hang out this week, I'll definitely beat the shit out of you for this whole story.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Punch me in the vag.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:44 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't see you backing up my claim that Tracer invited us to his house.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:46 (twenty-three years ago)

haha that's how we DO!! get ready for genital punching, UK boys!

We can all hold "back to mine" as a reserve option.

It's too bad that you two arrive on the 15th - Friday the 14th is Danny Tenaglia.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:47 (twenty-three years ago)

The 15th is the one-month eve of Tax Day though! Aren't you excited for that?

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh fuck, thanks for the reminder!

hstencil, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:49 (twenty-three years ago)

he's gonna spin the lennon remix then, yeah?

and ally, as much as it pains me to say, tracer's his own man, not mine...

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Dang, I just got invited to something else on the 15th. I'll prolly go to the FAP anyways.

hstencil, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:53 (twenty-three years ago)

You're both MY men. BWAHAHAHA no autonomy for you fools, I own your souls.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:58 (twenty-three years ago)

It's true, Yancey, I've seen the paperwork.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:01 (twenty-three years ago)

if you guys are serious about queens we can go to the place around the corner from me that serves yuengling and single malts, and it has a fireplace too.

and then we can all get 4am saganaki at uncle george's

maura (maura), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:05 (twenty-three years ago)

your uncle george is quite accommodating!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:07 (twenty-three years ago)

he's used to me by now

maura (maura), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:08 (twenty-three years ago)

I meant Queens as a joke, I was talking with my friend Max yesterday about how no one comes to Astoria, ever.

hstencil, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:08 (twenty-three years ago)

i've lived here for three years and i've been to queens twice -- one of them for a mets game.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:11 (twenty-three years ago)

ilx: a place for people in london and nyc to plan to socialize and for a handful of other people to post lonely bollocks from their bedrooms

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:12 (twenty-three years ago)

fine, more cheese for me

maura (maura), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:14 (twenty-three years ago)

sorry jess we could've Olympia FAPed last November but I don't think you liked me much then.

hstencil, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I am all jealous, as usual.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:18 (twenty-three years ago)

actually that was josh, the other night; i think i'm less bitter than him, slightly

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:20 (twenty-three years ago)

i like reading maura's post as a response to jess's

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:20 (twenty-three years ago)

ilx: more cheese for me

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Midtown must be great there are bars called SIBERIA and BELLEVUE. (Gareth and Tim I believe will be here on the 14th as well if anyone wants to try to induce them toward some Danny T. action. I suppose Yoko won't be there this time.) Let's all ride the circle line night vu OR let's storm the staten island ferry en masse!

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Let's all ride the circle line night vu OR let's storm the staten island ferry en masse!

YES.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:31 (twenty-three years ago)

The other party I was invited to for the 15th is on Staten Island.

hstencil, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:32 (twenty-three years ago)

I have to get up early on the 15th, so um, no late nights on the 14th for me. But y'all can knock yourselves out then.

As for Jersey, I am working on those plans.

rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, it's that Siberia, too bad it had to move, but I guess more space for us:

http://www.newyorkmetro.com/pages/details/9014.htm

(Meanwhile make suggestions for what else Gareth should do while he is here. Tim is fairly seif-sufficient I think.)

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Should we only choose places Jimmy Fallon goes to?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 22:02 (twenty-three years ago)

As a rule, yes.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 22:02 (twenty-three years ago)

I suppose I should mention the two Siberia rules, in case anyone objects:

1. No swearing.

2. No hitting on women.

I've only seen people ejected for violating these when making asses of themselves, though...

Jen (nstop), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 22:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Strangely, I have never seen any SNL cast members there. Fallon or otherwise.

Jen (nstop), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 22:05 (twenty-three years ago)

no swearing??

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 22:05 (twenty-three years ago)

haha Bar 13 on Sunday night for topp Fallon smirking

The American Museum of the Moving Image is Queens is awesome, gareth you should check it out. It is seriously one of the coolest museums I've ever been in, almost every exhibit is hands-on in one way or another - and they screen shorts round the clock in a miniature theater designed by Red Grooms!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 22:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, the AMMI is way fun. I really liked their video game exhibit.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 22:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Wait, I forgot about the rules. We should go somewhere else because the only reason 2 exists is so Tracy the owner (who resembles the Big Boss Man) can hit on women. Don't think that's noble, or nothin'.

hstencil, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 22:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Er ulp I'd better buy a ticket then I suppose. I'm not sure I'm *so* self-sufficient (I've only spent five days in NYC) so if anyone has any great ideas for stuff to do, I'm all ears. Especially if it involves goofy geezaesthetic installations of PIRATES and GALLEONS made out of woven palm fronds reclaimed from the dust of Bikini Atoll, or similar.

Isn't there a Sam Smith's house in New York?

(Psst Tom yes I'll be back by the 17th)

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 22:22 (twenty-three years ago)

He's so modest, he should be teaching us which galleries to go to! (There will be a major Mathew Barney thing at the Guggenheim and also an emerging artists from Japan thing at PS1. But you already knew that, right?)

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 22:31 (twenty-three years ago)

No, but I'm always up for a major barney.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 22:35 (twenty-three years ago)

emma b was like "there's an thing on, Matthew Barney? what do you think of him?"

me: "i hate him"

she: "yeah this article makes it sound like he's past it or something"

me: SUDDENLY IRRATIONALLY INTERESTED

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 22:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Jimmy Fallon did this skit on SNL where he dressed up like Harry Potter, and looked exactly like Fred Solinger. Matos, Tracer Hand - you know this much is true.

If Jimmy Fallon is coming to our FAP, then I'm definitely there. He's totally high all the time!

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 22:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe that's just "the way he is".

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 23:04 (twenty-three years ago)

You mean, like high on life, right?

I bet Jimmy Fallon would hit on me. Then I could put him in compromising photographs and laugh.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 23:10 (twenty-three years ago)

If Jimmy Fallon is coming, then I'll definetely be there.......so I can pistolwhip him.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 23:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Matos, Tracer Hand - you know this much is true.

The image of Matos singing, "I KNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW this MUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH is TRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUEEE!" is making me very very happy.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 23:30 (twenty-three years ago)

"Ah ha ha HA ha ha..."

Jen (nstop), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 23:31 (twenty-three years ago)

That's that settled then. Jimmy Fallon must come.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 23:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I hope Michael Musto will come to our FAP. Maybe we can set him up with Michael Daddino!

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 00:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I hope Michael Musto will come to our FAP. Maybe we can set him up with Michael Daddino!

Ew! EW! EW EW EW EW EW EW! No. No and wrong.

Musto's a great columnist and a woefully underrated television personality, but there would be no physical chemistry between us.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 00:19 (twenty-three years ago)

What about Jimmy Fallon?

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 00:19 (twenty-three years ago)

but there would be no physical chemistry between us.

What the fuck am I saying? I mean, I *had* to phrase it in a way that made it sound like I'd have a chance with him or something. Yeesh.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 00:20 (twenty-three years ago)

So you're saying there would be with Jimmy Fallon, right?

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 00:22 (twenty-three years ago)

True I think Siberia is where MM does most of his JF scoping. Watch out, Michael, you're next! (Sorry, I meant no offense, those who know me know it is my dream to befriend MM.)

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 00:24 (twenty-three years ago)

What about Jimmy Fallon?

He's good. Matthew Barney would be better.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 00:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Now we're getting somewhere.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 00:25 (twenty-three years ago)

http://www.eyestorm.com/img/editorial/MBA500-md.JPG

Now *that's* a man.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 00:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Our Mike deserves better!

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 00:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually, out of make-up he's pretty hot (he used to be a male model), but I can't find a photo that does him justice. Also, Barney as Gary Gilmore = dud.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 00:39 (twenty-three years ago)

100 answers in less than 12 hours may I unselfconsciously say that we've outdone ourselves.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 00:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually, out of make-up he's pretty hot

I meant Musto.

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 00:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I used Musto's phone once.

rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 00:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I still haven't finished the roll of film from the last time Tim was here.

rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 01:04 (twenty-three years ago)

oh...oh...oh, OKAY, I guess I can be persuaded to go to wherever (Tracer's! Tracer's!) and even see to it that young Gareth feels the Danny T. voib. maybe. (cough, cough)

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 01:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Our Mike deserves better!

Much! We should do a nationwide search to get him a fine hunka man.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 01:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Getting a little big for your britches now that you've had a b-day,
Matos

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 01:58 (twenty-three years ago)

He thinks he's special because he's 28. WELL HE'S NOT. I am not a stripogram! Wait, now I've confused myself.

Why are we planning a fap so early? Is it already so close to March? Goddamn.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 04:25 (twenty-three years ago)

hstencil knows of a good prizefighting bar in Mid-town without the bother and inconvenience of Siberia's no-hitting-on-women and no-cussing policies.

Hooray for gareth and Tim H! ILX Atlanticism continues.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 04:27 (twenty-three years ago)

no-hitting-on-women? no-cussing? WHAT THE HELL?

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 04:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I couldn't believe it either! Hitting on women and cussing are 2 of the primary purposes of bars.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 04:30 (twenty-three years ago)

No shit, pretty lady!

rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 04:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Hitting on women and cussing are 2 of the primary purposes of bars. of attending faps.

bnw? (bnw), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 04:38 (twenty-three years ago)

What about hitting on men??

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 04:50 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't need to FAP to do that. Maybe I need ILX. Nor do I need to have fun to drink.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 04:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Why are we planning a fap so early?

To give everyone ample time to fix their schedules and buy their plane tix -- I'm looking at you nabisco.

Say, Berliniansburg or whatever at Luxx is Sat. what say we take G. and throw him to the dogs?

And looks like Fri at Siberia is Depeche Mode nite. Some of us might be paying a few visits to Siberia that weekend.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 05:01 (twenty-three years ago)

And looks like Fri at Siberia is Depeche Mode nite.

A very very very very very good thing.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 05:37 (twenty-three years ago)

i think this might be an actual FAP i can actually make, actually. and no pesky dragging-saxophone-and-luggage-through-bar this time!

Dave M. (rotten03), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 06:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Some other artsy happenings:
Matisse/Picasso bockbuster at MoMaQnS ($20!)
Rachel Whiteread at Luhring Augustine, Chelsea
Manet/Velazquez at the Met
Andy Goldsworthy at Galerie Lelong, Chelsea
I thought Tom Friedman was showing but maybe it's closed already...

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 06:09 (twenty-three years ago)

ooh I will happily go see Manet and Velasquez during the Brit invas or otherwise.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 06:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Say, Berliniansburg or whatever at Luxx is Sat. what say we take G. and throw him to the dogs?

lord have mercy, berliniamsburg is still going on??? what about that new night at APT that afrikaa bambaata is hosting - Negroclash.

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 06:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Bambaataa only played it once, he's not the host, the guest DJ is revolving. Still looks good though (nb I have not yet attended)

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 06:49 (twenty-three years ago)

I am insanely and horribly jealous and hate you all. As usual.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 09:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Mary, longshot, but are you the korean mary from iowa who dated that crazy & drunk guy sean? i know a girl like that from NYU.

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 09:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Matisse/ Picasso is $20 it was much less than that in London. What's in the Whiteread show? She has a new piece in the Britart show at Tate Britain, so I assume its old stuff.

(dali), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 09:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I just bought my ticket.

Whiteread: the show's likely to have at least something in common with the recent thing at the HOV, wouldn't you think?

Paintings: in this day and age?

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 14:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I guess but will they have shipped the staircase over or will she have made something in NYC.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 14:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Somewhere in the back of my mind I'm thinking she made a few of those staircases but I'm not sure.

Wasn't very taken with that HOV show, although I liked the bath (obv the gallery got upset when I climbed in, sparked up and started reading).

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 14:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I have an anti-Luxx policy, sorry.

The boxing bar is called Jimmy's Corner, it's not too far from Times Square. I actually have never been there.

hstencil, Wednesday, 26 February 2003 16:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I want those bookshelves she did.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 16:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, me too. The bleed of colour from the edges of the pages...

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 16:08 (twenty-three years ago)

One of her best pieces since house just because of that subtlety.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 16:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Well when you get here Tim let's go to the giftshop and ask how much they are. They can't be too much, it's just rubber or something.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 16:30 (twenty-three years ago)

It's a shame that the Upper East Side has such sorry drinking holes, otherwise we could go to M. Barney and then to the boozer, though the other way 'round might be better. Or is a return to the Subway Bar in order, Tim?

Benjamin, Wednesday, 26 February 2003 16:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Concrete. He'll get killed on the excess baggage, unless he can disguise it as carry on.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 16:32 (twenty-three years ago)

But it's art! It's not subject to their... their RULES.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 16:41 (twenty-three years ago)

trust me, you try and check in 100kg of concrete there going to want some money for it.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 16:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I guess there's nothing for it but the overhead compartment somehow.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 16:57 (twenty-three years ago)

I have this wonderful image of Tim putting a concret cast of a bookshelf on the x ray machine and staggering towards the gate.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 16:58 (twenty-three years ago)

He's like a pismire, he can carry 50x times his weight in art!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 17:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Mary, longshot, but are you the korean mary from iowa who dated that crazy & drunk guy sean? i know a girl like that from NYU.

No, I'm quite vanilla.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 17:17 (twenty-three years ago)

H!O!P!kins:
> Wasn't very taken with that HOV show

did you go again then tim?

andy

koogs (koogs), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 17:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Attention! I have in my little black book a number for Michael Musto! It may even be currently active if he's a smartypants who has rent control!

(Ed = Rachel Whiteread's number-one fan)

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 17:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Upper East Side isn't necessarily bad, I mean most of it sucks but there are some trashy Irish bars that are pretty good. THough they're closer to midtown east than anything else.

UES has the same issue as LES though, there's no goddamned way to get there, once you pass the stop by Citibank on Lex/53rd then you might as well be trying to get to Canada.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 17:42 (twenty-three years ago)

The Rachel Whiteread = floor tiles and an inverted staircase; has this shown in England?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 18:09 (twenty-three years ago)

(8 1/2 is showing that weekend at ammi)

maura (maura), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 18:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes Mary, they dragged them all the way from Chance Street E2 (studio) to Haunch of Venison Yard W1 (gallery) since it was on the way to Heathrow anyway...

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 18:34 (twenty-three years ago)

notice: NYC FAP has now been moved to Canada. sorry for any inconvenience.

Dave M. (rotten03), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 19:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't see why we shouldn't go to Canada. It'd be something new.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 19:24 (twenty-three years ago)

And if they don't let me back in the States, that's fine too.

hstencil, Wednesday, 26 February 2003 19:25 (twenty-three years ago)

None of us are coming back, babe.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 19:48 (twenty-three years ago)

GARETH AND TIM IT IS URGENT AND KEY THAT YOU EMAIL ME! That is all.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 19:56 (twenty-three years ago)

So shoud we set a rough time to meet up at Siberia then? What do you suggest Jen or anyone else?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 23:34 (twenty-three years ago)

I am all 4 Siberia, it is good to me. (and believe me, those instructions at the door do NOT impede a good time.)

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 23:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Sure, anytime. I'll be there.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 23:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Okay then 8 o'clock, Siberia, be there!

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 23:41 (twenty-three years ago)

I will be there!

Jen (nstop), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 23:46 (twenty-three years ago)

8 o clock, siberia, Saturday? any art-show action earlier in the day?

Dave M. (rotten03), Thursday, 27 February 2003 00:44 (twenty-three years ago)

My coworker just told me that Adolf Wolfii at the American Folk Art Museum is really good:

http://www.folkartmuseum.org/afam_frames.asp?platform=mac&browser=ie&ver=5

Do you like Darger, Tim?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 27 February 2003 02:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Hadn't heard of him until today, and by the look of the stuff on the interweb, I'm not sure it would be my kind of thing.

I fear the folk.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 27 February 2003 13:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Vivian Girls out to get Tim!

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 27 February 2003 13:26 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd be very surprised.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 27 February 2003 13:34 (twenty-three years ago)

It closes on Saturday (darn) but I wish I could get along to the Ana Maria Pacheco show: http://www.salander.com/exhibitions/index.html#pacheco01

Her show at the National last year (or was it the year before) was brilliant.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 27 February 2003 13:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Darger is amazing. Had a feeling it wouldn't be your thing though Tim. Gareth on the other hand -- proto superflat in the house.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 27 February 2003 16:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Here's the Barney:

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 27 February 2003 18:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Here's PS1

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 27 February 2003 18:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Ryan McGinley is at the Whitney :(

http://www.whitney.org/

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 27 February 2003 18:27 (twenty-three years ago)

ugh Bill Viola makes me want to throw things.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 27 February 2003 18:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Why he makes pretty lights.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 27 February 2003 18:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I want to throw those, too. Sorry, some days I just shouldn't even talk to anyone, or think about anything, cause I just think bad, and "if you think bad, bad is what you get." Still I prefer Frank to Bill.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 27 February 2003 18:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Frank "Sweet Music" Viola

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 27 February 2003 19:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw the Ryan McGinley exhibit at the Whitney, with my mom.

hstencil, Thursday, 27 February 2003 19:22 (twenty-three years ago)

And...?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 27 February 2003 19:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Is Darger the very strange man from Chicago who did the Child Slave Rebellion and the Vivian Girls, to which suzy alluded?

If so, Darger's work fascinates me in spite of my wishes, like that that of Dadd.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 28 February 2003 00:04 (twenty-three years ago)

ok I just checked. Yes, Darger is amazing. Literally.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 28 February 2003 00:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey F, Darger has major influence on Georgina Starr, Karen Kilimnik and Stu Mead. Georgina has lots of other influences though.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 28 February 2003 00:18 (twenty-three years ago)

And mom had no comment on the penis, puke or semen.

hstencil, Friday, 28 February 2003 00:21 (twenty-three years ago)

So she was leching after Phiiliip or something? Go mom!

suzy (suzy), Friday, 28 February 2003 00:23 (twenty-three years ago)

the penis, puke or semen

Didn't they sing "Spinning Wheel"?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 28 February 2003 00:24 (twenty-three years ago)

(Darger is disturbing and not very talented but good evidence for the "art requires madness" theory = my uneducated opinion.)

bnw (bnw), Friday, 28 February 2003 00:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Darger reminds me of John Waters'advice to the prisoners he was teaching as described in Crackpot: he urged them to depict whatever they liked using artists'materials, to save them using other, darker materials.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 28 February 2003 00:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Didn't they sing "Spinning Wheel"?

Ouch.

*runs over to "posts that make you laugh out loud thread*

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 28 February 2003 00:52 (twenty-three years ago)

the funny thing about it is one of the few records my mom owns is the Blood, Sweat and Tears one with that song.

*sigh* I'll never have one of my posts on the "laugh out loud" thread.

hstencil, Friday, 28 February 2003 00:54 (twenty-three years ago)

after looking at the websites, i vote for either the PS1 video exhibition (name recognition - nam june paik, gilbert and george, bruce naumann) or the barney (sheer absurdity). but really, i'll go wherever.

graham & tim? other NYC folx? opinions?

Dave M. (rotten03), Friday, 28 February 2003 01:07 (twenty-three years ago)

(of course you're obviously namedropping if you can't spell nauman - i am outed as ahrt fule)

Dave M. (rotten03), Friday, 28 February 2003 01:08 (twenty-three years ago)

B-but Dave, it's Gareth who's coming, not Graham! Bnw, have you seen Darger paintings like real ones? They might win you over. Anyway, hi! We miss you!

Mary (Mary), Friday, 28 February 2003 05:20 (twenty-three years ago)

(Who is Dadd?)

Mary (Mary), Friday, 28 February 2003 05:21 (twenty-three years ago)

oooooops, faux pas. sorry gareth (& graham for that matter). now i owe you a pint.

Dave M. (rotten03), Friday, 28 February 2003 05:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Hi, Mary! I saw the Darger exhibit at the Folk Art Museum in NYC like a year ago. The sheer quantity of his work was interesting. The content was not. Enjoy your FAPs!

bnw (bnw), Friday, 28 February 2003 05:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Ohh I went to, did you go on a Fri. night and try to pick up unsuspecting art types?

Mary (Mary), Friday, 28 February 2003 06:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Richard Dadd was the Darger of the Victorian era.

did you go on a Fri. night and try to pick up unsuspecting art types?

You know bnw, that's our man. He has to beat them off with a stick.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 28 February 2003 06:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Picking up chicks next to a Darger exhibit: "So you like drawings of naked children? Wanna get a cup of coffee?"

bnw (bnw), Friday, 28 February 2003 06:33 (twenty-three years ago)

no no no you talk about naked children during coffee

M Matos (M Matos), Friday, 28 February 2003 06:34 (twenty-three years ago)

(It's going to be very difficult but we shall see.)

Mary (Mary), Friday, 28 February 2003 17:22 (twenty-three years ago)

(Metro Area is at Apt. Mar. 13)

Mary (Mary), Friday, 28 February 2003 22:54 (twenty-three years ago)

(why are we whispering?)

felicity (felicity), Friday, 28 February 2003 22:56 (twenty-three years ago)

cz we learned how at village karaoke!

Mary (Mary), Friday, 28 February 2003 22:58 (twenty-three years ago)

So check it out I went to the Bellevue after my friend's play because that's where the cast goes every night after the show; haha this place DEFINES seedy; wall holds such treats as old chinese food menus and a poster of topless girl with a sawed off shotgun; the moment i get to the bar the bartender literally puts a glass of jack daniels in my hand (i knew because he was holding the open bottle in his other hand) and says "drink it, i dare you"

the tables all have little cards on them that are the perfect size to lay over the top of your pint glass and they say "gone for a piss - don't fuck with my beer - the bellevue"

when it was time to leave i couldn't because the enormous owner who'd been staggering aimlessly into people and getting drinks thrown in his face and vanishing for hours into the bathroom with the other bartender (who claimed it was her "first day") was lying face down on the floor, between me and the door. it was only after me and 2 other guys lifted him to his feet that we noticed the other bartender was underneath him, kind of impacted into his flesh; his stomach was probably her-shaped for like 10 minutes afterwards

Killing Joke on the jukebox: check!!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 3 March 2003 06:41 (twenty-three years ago)

honor the fire-water!

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 3 March 2003 08:42 (twenty-three years ago)

such treats as old chinese food menus and a poster of topless girl with a sawed off shotgun

who knew it was that easy to impress you noo yawk types? i am going to start a bar in my room.

Dave M. (rotten03), Monday, 3 March 2003 10:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I told'ja!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 3 March 2003 14:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Bellevue sounds like my company outings.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 3 March 2003 17:06 (twenty-three years ago)

you should all go to the track inlouad plaid sports coats

Ed (dali), Monday, 3 March 2003 17:09 (twenty-three years ago)

But Andy said it doesn't resemble Bellevue Hospital:(

Mary (Mary), Monday, 3 March 2003 21:26 (twenty-three years ago)

EVERY POSSE AND CREW THE FUTURE IS BEFORE YOUR EYES

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 11:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm getting quite excited about the trip now, and wishing I'd decided to visit for longer.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 11:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Me too! Although I may have to work a lot this week :(

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 11:57 (twenty-three years ago)

I wish you had decided to visit a week later.

Still I'll be over soon.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 12:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Why, Pete?

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 12:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually a week later would have been a bad idea vis a vis Tom's birthday. No, I would have stapled my cuffs to your coat tales and been able to intersect with you giving me a good secondary excuse to go. Now I just have the main excuse (I want to go), which is subject to usual procrastination.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 13:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey - what's the weather like in NYC right now? Any forecasts for the weekend? It's springy here: is it over there?

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 13:54 (twenty-three years ago)

We are excited today because it may get as warm as 40 F. It is sunny and bright, though.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 14:34 (twenty-three years ago)

It's going to be raining hellfire, actually.

(This is not far from truth, no one really seems to know what the hell the weather is doing here, currently it's in the 20s but supposedly will be almost 60 tomorrow, then it might snow on Thursday, then be 50 on Friday)

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 14:35 (twenty-three years ago)

People were wearing shorts on Sunday. Crazy New York people, but yes.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 14:36 (twenty-three years ago)

It's fuckin' way colder than it oughta be here right now.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 15:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Alex I hear you are going to grace us with your presence on Saturday.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 15:12 (twenty-three years ago)

what time does it start again? I've got to be at a surprise birthday party at 9 in Brooklyn. Y'all better be there when I'm ready to party 'til 6 in the mornin'.

hstencil, Tuesday, 11 March 2003 15:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going to try.....tho' I might be quite late. I have a friend who is moving to Tokyo, and he's having a going away soirez (soiree?) earlier in the evening, but his wife is preggerz, so I'm not imagining that particular event will run late. So, look for me staggering in later on.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 15:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I see people with shorts EVERY DAY, what the hell?

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:08 (twenty-three years ago)

in like a lion, out like a lamb --> March 15 = DAY OF THE LIOMB!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:57 (twenty-three years ago)

LIOMB = Lay It On Me Brother = American for I'll have a pint please.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 17:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Where will da partay be held? Siberia? I think I'm gonna cum on by l8 nite

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 17:01 (twenty-three years ago)

oh no!! I'm going to miss this! OH NO! unless you guys feel like coming to a party on, uh, staten island.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 17:23 (twenty-three years ago)

woooooyeah!

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 17:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Hmm, Tracer I got invited to a party on Staten Island that night too, but I can't go. Wonder if it's the same party?

hstencil, Tuesday, 11 March 2003 17:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Winter Music Conference is on Staten Island?

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 17:28 (twenty-three years ago)

directions from Miami airport to Staten Island

email me for yr other availability, gentlemen

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 17:52 (twenty-three years ago)

i mean unless you really would like to crash that party, which i would be totally in favor of!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 17:53 (twenty-three years ago)

It's cold and it will probably rain. But Gareth will be humming the tune to Endless Summer nonstop.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 00:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Staten Island? Oh my god, that is so weak. Do you realize you said Staten Island? What the hell? OH my god. I got trapped in some weird endless bridge loop once on Staten Island, but that was because my driving friend was completely off his kit being yelled at by someone else in the car, and just kept driving back into the Staten Island lane. It was terrifying.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 03:24 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm just trying to get with hstencil's boat-renting idea!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 06:04 (twenty-three years ago)

just make sure you're not listening to body count when you're driving / boating through...

Dave M. (rotten03), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 06:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I fear Staten Island.

Tracer, you're really going to blow off Gareth and Tim - who have trekked from London to see you, YES YOU - to go to Staten Island? That is so weak.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 14:50 (twenty-three years ago)

See, what if we got like a couple cases of beer and stuff, and just partied on the Staten Island Ferry all night?

hstencil, Wednesday, 12 March 2003 14:52 (twenty-three years ago)

That sounds warm.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 14:55 (twenty-three years ago)

well you don't have to go outside!

hstencil, Wednesday, 12 March 2003 14:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I think we should just go bring some beer to a bridge and stand on it.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 14:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Rather than drinking it?

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 14:58 (twenty-three years ago)

If we stand on beer, it'll get warm.

If we stand on a bridge, we'll get cold.

hstencil, Wednesday, 12 March 2003 14:59 (twenty-three years ago)

What if the bridge were made of beer?

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 15:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Then I'd say we'd have moved into a fantastic universe in which all is possible.

hstencil, Wednesday, 12 March 2003 15:06 (twenty-three years ago)

We need to build bridges with England. Bridges of alcohol.

-- Tracer Hand (tracerhan...), July 11th, 2002.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 16:01 (twenty-three years ago)

what's with all of these hanging italics

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 16:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I am going to two museums (Museum of the City of NY and The Jewish Museum, it's cheap night!) tomorrow afternoon. Email me if you're interested!

rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 16:23 (twenty-three years ago)

I am toying with the idea of seeing Royksopp on Friday at Irving Plaza. Any interest from the foreigners? Or anyboy/anygirl, for that matter?

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 16:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't... they're rubbish live. It essentially consists of a DAT playing with the occasional noise over the top and some really embarrasing miming.

Gareth loves Royksopp...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 17:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought that said 'embarassing mining'

alix (alix), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 17:13 (twenty-three years ago)

My friend is always claiming her beer got warm, and dumping it out, but it's never actually warm. I mean it'll still have condensation forming on the outside, and she'll go, "Argh, it's so warm, this is disgusting" and dump it out and get a new one. She must've wasted rivers of beer by now, it's like her own personal version of the Boston Tea Party. I implore her to say she's pouring it out for her departed homies but she refuses. She just insists that perfectly fine beer has gone hot.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 20:13 (twenty-three years ago)

cry me a river . . . of beer

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 20:15 (twenty-three years ago)

The thing is, she's very proud of "how much she can drink" - but she doesn't drink the whole thing, ever, because it's "hot".

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 20:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I think we should just go bring some beer to a bridge and stand on it.

George Washington Bridge then?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 22:39 (twenty-three years ago)

C'mon Mary, a toll-less bridge would be better.

hstencil, Wednesday, 12 March 2003 22:40 (twenty-three years ago)

ha! we don't have to pay to stand on it!

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 22:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Listen you fuxors, haven't we settled on a venue as yet? Is it still going to be Siberia, where the cussin' is verboten?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 13 March 2003 00:02 (twenty-three years ago)

yes, Siberia!

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 13 March 2003 00:02 (twenty-three years ago)

SIBERIA 8 OCLOCK DOES ANYONE NEED DIRECTIONS?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 13 March 2003 00:13 (twenty-three years ago)

is fuxor a bad word at siberia?

Dave M. (rotten03), Thursday, 13 March 2003 01:54 (twenty-three years ago)

We should stand on the 59th Street bridge, and feel groovy.

SIBERIA 8 SHARP I WILL COME! I don't know if I'm bringing people but quite honestly, aren't I enough.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 13 March 2003 02:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Ha! Tim is flying across the Atlantic with Rick Wakeman!* Eat your heart out, Starry!

*Not sure if they are using a plane, or just Rick's cape.

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 13 March 2003 10:26 (twenty-three years ago)

I fear for Mr Wakeman's safety.

chris (chris), Thursday, 13 March 2003 10:36 (twenty-three years ago)

No one will be able to predict this, but I'll ask anyway: I probably won't be able to come out until 11 or midnight. Will people still be throwing down at Siberia?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 13 March 2003 15:48 (twenty-three years ago)

I am in the same sitch, so yeah.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 13 March 2003 15:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Going to FAPs at 11?! How I envy your licensing laws...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 13 March 2003 16:01 (twenty-three years ago)

I probably won't be there `til later on as well....and I may bring a pair of out-of-town'er friends, so please everyone play nice and don't project your flagrant fire-dishonoring on them. That's my own cross to bear.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 13 March 2003 16:02 (twenty-three years ago)

yo where the bars at?

gareth in new york (Mary), Thursday, 13 March 2003 16:05 (twenty-three years ago)

ha ha gareth how was your trip? Did you bring us an April Musik? It's not out here.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 13 March 2003 16:06 (twenty-three years ago)

we went into pianos last night but you had already left

gareth in nyc (Mary), Thursday, 13 March 2003 16:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Damn! Thanks for coming. Hope you are enjoying our fair city. Whatup with you kids today?

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 13 March 2003 16:12 (twenty-three years ago)

What are you doing Friday???

rosemary (rosemary), Thursday, 13 March 2003 16:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Any, the Roots are on Friday, not Royksopp. (These crack dealers never have reliable concert info anymore.)

What did you think of Pianos, our white-hot center of the Retro (Not Retro) scene?

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 13 March 2003 16:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I had no idea that Pianos was at all popular... I've only been there once, which is kinda lame since it's only a block away.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 13 March 2003 17:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It was crowded. A woman in front of me was text messaging "good LES story." Stanchions on Ludlow Street are very wrong.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 13 March 2003 17:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't read about a bar called Piano's without thinking of pina coladas and white suits and Simply Red playing in the background while a man in a pony-tail leers at your girlfriend, Samantha.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 13 March 2003 17:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Was there a show, or were you just being yr usual social butterfly self?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 13 March 2003 17:09 (twenty-three years ago)

From the outside it looks like a place Harry Connick Jr might play.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 13 March 2003 17:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Yancey, Felicity: I'll be there prior to 11, so just call me on my cell if you need to know where the party at at the point when you are heading to meet up. You both gots da number.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 13 March 2003 17:27 (twenty-three years ago)

ooh i wish i could be there with you all. i had made plans, but i realized i just dont have the cash. :-(

Have a great time!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Thursday, 13 March 2003 17:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Y: both
A: ok

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 13 March 2003 17:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Metro Area at Apt. tonight?

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 13 March 2003 19:23 (twenty-three years ago)

I have arrived safely with no cape related mishaps. Three hours in NYC has made me do domething I'd been resisting for years of terrible British weather: buy a brolley.

It appears that the next day or two of my life will be something of a mystery tour but I'll see you all on Saturday if not before.

Early impressions: Tapies, Ellen Harvey shows amazing, Picasso linocuts at Marlborough also better even than I expected. I love linocuts. And I heart NY.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 14 March 2003 00:58 (twenty-three years ago)

what's a brolley?

clueless Yank (M Matos), Friday, 14 March 2003 01:14 (twenty-three years ago)

it's their weirdo-speak for "umbrella" i think

gareth n tim where are you dudes?! um i guess i will see you saturday!! koritfw

geeta (geeta), Friday, 14 March 2003 01:27 (twenty-three years ago)

It's an umbrella!

And it's Pianos, not Piano's.

(arrr crosspost!)

rosemary@mary's (Mary), Friday, 14 March 2003 01:31 (twenty-three years ago)

hey geeta -- gareth's at my place give us a ring if you want to hook up

Mary (Mary), Friday, 14 March 2003 01:58 (twenty-three years ago)

i will call tho!!

geeta (geeta), Friday, 14 March 2003 02:00 (twenty-three years ago)

felicity (felicity), Friday, 14 March 2003 04:27 (twenty-three years ago)

U R SO GAY, I don't own an umbrella! I am hardcore!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 14 March 2003 04:32 (twenty-three years ago)

you live half a block from work, you don't need an umbrella

M Matos (M Matos), Friday, 14 March 2003 05:21 (twenty-three years ago)

ohhh, i miss APT. i miss new york. fuck traveling. i'm coming home.

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 14 March 2003 05:26 (twenty-three years ago)

i ended up drowning my thesis sorrows in BEER at a bar uptown and ran into jen nstop totally randomly!!

geeta (geeta), Friday, 14 March 2003 05:38 (twenty-three years ago)

(Since this thread is full of New Yorkers, it seems like a fine place to let you all know that it looks like I'll be moving out there for school this summer. Sorry for going off-topic, but I wanted to let you all know: I'll look forward to seeing those of you I know and meeting those of you I don't!)

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 14 March 2003 07:04 (twenty-three years ago)

YAY!!!!!!!
:-)
:-)
:-)

M Matos (M Matos), Friday, 14 March 2003 07:08 (twenty-three years ago)

haha, another one moves to NYC....it is all part of our evil plan to EAT YR BRANE nabisco

nabisco is k-brainy = his brane is prob. nutritious?!

(i am listening to electro-pop in yr honor)

geeta (geeta), Friday, 14 March 2003 07:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Hooray, nabisco! And going back to skool -- intriguing . . . Tell more!

And yes, EVERYONE please f*ck traveling and come home to NY. It needs you.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 14 March 2003 13:47 (twenty-three years ago)

everyone will move to NYC eventually. it is all part of our evil plan.

geeta (geeta), Friday, 14 March 2003 13:58 (twenty-three years ago)

then gor

giant insect priest s (mark s), Friday, 14 March 2003 14:06 (twenty-three years ago)

yes, yes. i think we will all move to gor once they all move to nyc. it is all part of our evil plan.

geeta (geeta), Friday, 14 March 2003 14:08 (twenty-three years ago)

"Gor is a continent in science fiction. Many may wish it did not exist, but it is there.

"It is not hard to find, really. Just look for a world that lies a thousand degrees north of monothink, a
thousand degrees east of orthodoxy, a thousand degrees west of ideological conformity, a continent
far from the placid waters of predictable mediocrity, a different world, one real, one like no other,
one beyond the familiar world’s horizon, one emergent from far, tumultuous, untamed seas, a world
alert to deep currents, which listens to secret whispers, which wears stars in her hair.

"The maps of ideologically servile cartographers may choose not to show the Gorean world, but it is
there, a wonderful, forbidden continent. Some of you know her, and have been there."
---J. Norman, Dec. 2000

mark s (mark s), Friday, 14 March 2003 14:13 (twenty-three years ago)

John Norman = Calum Robert!!

mark s (mark s), Friday, 14 March 2003 14:13 (twenty-three years ago)

you live half a block from work, you don't need an umbrella

Because all I ever do is go to work! In fact, I never leave this block! Etc! Matos!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 14 March 2003 14:41 (twenty-three years ago)

And thus the Ally/Matos war raged on.

it looks like I'll be moving out there for school this summer

You must be there by July 4 and the megaFAP! Or I'LL KILL YOU. (I heart Nabisco.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 14 March 2003 16:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Ally and Matos are a sit com. Throw in JBR and this is why I haven't watched television in 6 months.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 14 March 2003 16:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Felicity: Still waiting on some of the details, but it looks like I'll be doing the grad writing program (fiction) at Columbia. I also get to call myself a "fellow." I feel a little weird being all "yay me" about it, but I have to admit I'm really excited: these programs aare a pain to get into, and I was really really hoping for this opportunity to get out of what was starting to feel a little like a rut. I'm just hoping things work out so that I can afford to get out there smoothly and hopefully live at least sort of on the less-shocking side of "starving-grad-student."

Ned: I won't have moved out there by then, but I'll probably be going back and forth looking for a place to live and some sort of accommodating job -- I'll make sure to schedule one of those trips for the 4th!

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 14 March 2003 16:29 (twenty-three years ago)

That is cash money marvelous, nabisco. Congratulations.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 14 March 2003 16:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Well done, Mr. Nabisco! The fiction writing clique of ILX stands to take over the world. :-) And hurrah for being out for the 4th! :-)

Ally and Matos are a sit com. Throw in JBR and this is why I haven't watched television in 6 months.

Man. *jealous and envious*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 14 March 2003 16:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Congrats nabisco! I look forward to meeting you...

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 14 March 2003 16:48 (twenty-three years ago)

I like how Ned says "hurrah" in one line and then gets devilishly envious in the next.

I would like to announce that I am turning this FAP into also a St. Patrick's Day event. SO WEAR GREEN FUCKERS.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 14 March 2003 19:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Felicity isn't fooling me. the real reason she hasn't watched TV in six months has to do with relative lack of baseball activity.

can being green w/jealousy over whom/whatever count?

M Matos (M Matos), Friday, 14 March 2003 19:13 (twenty-three years ago)

gareth left his green fuckers in islington i think

mark s (mark s), Friday, 14 March 2003 19:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I'm gonna be wearing a suit tomorrow because of some other shit I have to take care of earlier, but perhaps I'll dye it green tonight.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 14 March 2003 19:23 (twenty-three years ago)

You better have on a green tie you bastard.

Leaving your green fuckers in Islington = I will be putting green hair gel on your head. Copious amounts. And announcing loudly that you are my gentleman caller from Ireland, since most Americans can't tell the difference between accents anyway.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 14 March 2003 20:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Turns out that I am going to be leaving the festivities at some point because I just got a last-minute assignment to cover Shelter's 12th anniversary celebration (buncha deep-house DJs like Timmy Regisford, Merlin Bobb, David Morales, Little Louie Vega, DJ Spinna, Danny Krivit, Francois Kevorkian, Frankie Feliciano, plus a live performance by Byron Stingily). I really really really regret this. BUT: the Shelter thang goes on till noon Sunday so anyone who wants to go to that after the FAP should. Shelter (20 W. 39th St.) is within walking distance of Siberia (356 W. 40th St.), so it's not hard to get to at all. I do hope some of you can make it!

M Matos (M Matos), Friday, 14 March 2003 20:32 (twenty-three years ago)

(It's $25 to get into Shelter, which ain't cheap, but, um, well, I'll be there...and, like, stuff....)

M Matos (M Matos), Friday, 14 March 2003 20:34 (twenty-three years ago)

And it don't get any cheaper once you get in the doors, of course...

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 14 March 2003 20:37 (twenty-three years ago)

(not for me I'm on the guest list haha!)

M Matos (M Matos), Friday, 14 March 2003 20:39 (twenty-three years ago)

It gets cheaper once you're inside by being on the guest list? Must look into this.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 14 March 2003 20:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I say we go to my bar instead of Matos's, where it is free to get in and the bartenders will comp my group a couple drinks now and again.

(Actually I don't say this at all, last time I was there I paraded around in a sailor hat)

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 14 March 2003 20:44 (twenty-three years ago)

but I'll still be @ Siberia till late late late!

[crickets chirping fx]

M Matos (M Matos), Friday, 14 March 2003 20:47 (twenty-three years ago)

hahahaha you think we have $25, that was really cute actually. Ain't none of us got $25!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 14 March 2003 20:50 (twenty-three years ago)

I still want to go to this place where they put you on a guest list, you go inside for free, and then they pay you to drink -- thus making it cheaper, like in former Soviet Union.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 14 March 2003 20:51 (twenty-three years ago)

hahaha, I was merely explaining my early departure beforehand

M Matos (M Matos), Friday, 14 March 2003 20:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Russians pay you to drink?! Why aren't we in Russia?!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 14 March 2003 20:54 (twenty-three years ago)

(I like how my response to myself gets misunderstood as a response to Yanc3y and everybody runs w/it)

M Matos (M Matos), Friday, 14 March 2003 20:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Anyway Michaelangelo, I'm still not clear as to how you being on the list makes buying drinks cheaper. Can you elaborate on that? You keep dodging the issue!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 14 March 2003 20:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Yanc3y, if you had such powers would you post them to cyberworld? Be honest.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 14 March 2003 20:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Nabisco, I'd send you an e-mail congratulating you on your fellowship, but you don't seem to like e-mail (via ILXOR, anyway), so I'll just congratulate you here.

Congrats, Nabisco.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 14 March 2003 21:06 (twenty-three years ago)

I wouldn't post them, that's for sure. You all can MAKE your own drinks.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 14 March 2003 21:49 (twenty-three years ago)

I like email, Dave! It's just that due to bad planning my non-work address I have has my name in it, so I don't like it attached to every post. The webmail thing here should get messages to me just fine.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 14 March 2003 22:15 (twenty-three years ago)

freaking nabisco moving to NYC in summer when i'm moving to freaking singapore grumble grumble

Dave M. (rotten03), Friday, 14 March 2003 23:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Singapore?! Why?

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 15 March 2003 07:01 (twenty-three years ago)

I like how Ned says "hurrah" in one line and then gets devilishly envious in the next.

Yay mood swings! It was a gently devilish envy (but still envy).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 15 March 2003 07:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Nabitsuh: WOW.

Hope you get hella more out of it than I did out of SLC undergrad programme. And you know how I keep saying you should get paid for it? Check with me nearer the end of the programme and I will 'tip off' one of my Filofax giants (cough cough the Z@die guy or the Arund@ti guy) to world's cleverest Ethiopian indie kid. Seriously.

suzy (suzy), Saturday, 15 March 2003 15:57 (twenty-three years ago)

yeesh that's some lineup, you can't really blame Michaelangelo for going, though I'm sure all the NYC ILXers are house music legends in their own special way too.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 15 March 2003 16:11 (twenty-three years ago)

i am the original house music legend

geeta (geeta), Saturday, 15 March 2003 16:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Alex in NYC is a total house music legend as well

geeta (geeta), Saturday, 15 March 2003 16:14 (twenty-three years ago)

yes when they were making "I Feel Love" Alex was there and said don't do it that way, you'll never make it that way.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 15 March 2003 16:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Congratulations Naulipo!

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 15 March 2003 17:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going because I'm being paid to write about it, Ronan, not because I want to abandon NYC's foxxxy ILxxxors

M Matos (M Matos), Saturday, 15 March 2003 20:01 (twenty-three years ago)

(shh, I narrowly escaped Felicity inflicting the sounds of Rancid's "Ruby Soho" on me . . . the horror . . . please get me out of here)

Tim H., having departed 5 minutes ago (felicity), Saturday, 15 March 2003 20:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Ruby Soho! That's a fantastic song! Especially if you are drunk!

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 15 March 2003 21:55 (twenty-three years ago)

oh I wasn't having a go, getting paid for it isn't bad either though!

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 15 March 2003 21:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Alex in NYC is a total house music legend as well

I'm more of an Outhouse music legend, me.

Ewww....I just managed to creep myself out.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 15 March 2003 21:57 (twenty-three years ago)

If I don't arrive tonight until after midnight/1am, are folks still gonna be there?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 15 March 2003 21:58 (twenty-three years ago)

YES

M Matos (M Matos), Saturday, 15 March 2003 22:01 (twenty-three years ago)

OK is anyone actually showing up on time? I'm more likely to show closer to 10/11 myself at this point. ALEX YOU BETTER SHOW.

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 15 March 2003 22:10 (twenty-three years ago)

walker texas reviewer alex never breaks his word

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 15 March 2003 22:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm feeling lazy. I'll get there when I get there.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 15 March 2003 23:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I feel bad now that I shouted at Tim H nonstop through lunch to make sure he understands me through my heavy foreign accent.

felicity (felicity), Sunday, 16 March 2003 00:57 (twenty-three years ago)

my poor brane is still stewing in its own (very alcoholic) juices so i think the FAP was a success!!

the party don't stop until six in the morning

geeta (geeta), Sunday, 16 March 2003 15:20 (twenty-three years ago)

biggest FAP in the world evah?!

Paul (scifisoul), Sunday, 16 March 2003 15:39 (twenty-three years ago)

You should all be breakfasting on bloody mary's and rare steaks and continuing the party untill gareth has to get the plane.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 16 March 2003 15:43 (twenty-three years ago)

sorry, should be bloody marys and bloody steaks.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 16 March 2003 15:44 (twenty-three years ago)

goddamn it paul you were there?! i got there after you left :(

alex in NYC showed up at around 1 am so we finally got to meet him!! honor the fire fuXoRz

also tracer showed up at like 3am!!

geeta (geeta), Sunday, 16 March 2003 15:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Bloody Mary's what, Ed? And what's she done to upset you?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 16 March 2003 16:01 (twenty-three years ago)

huh? wha? where am i?

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 16 March 2003 16:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Tsk. You DRUNK.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 16 March 2003 16:27 (twenty-three years ago)

i felt pretty bad this morning, but not as bad as i thought i would. leaving at 5 seems to have been a good idea so that today is not ruin.

i was wearing yanceys hat wasn't i? wait, that was me i think?

who there? mary, geeta, zoe, jbr, m daddino, matos, paul k, simon r, tim h, jen, maura, felicity, tobias, dave m, ally, yancey, hstencil, alex in nyc, tracer, chuck e and some other people, look i forgot...

siberia is pretty cool, and they gave me some free drinks and stuff

gareth@marys (Mary), Sunday, 16 March 2003 17:29 (twenty-three years ago)

you WERE wearing his silly hat. I have pictures. You look very AMERICAN in them.

(Probably, I mean they aren't developed yet)

The jukebox at Siberia sucked, but otherwise it was a good place. But that jukebox was the worst thing ever.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 16 March 2003 17:40 (twenty-three years ago)

highlight of the evening: me, nearly passed out on the couch towards the end, singing "wild horses" all sentimental and slurred

(that jukebox RULED btw)

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 16 March 2003 17:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Both Bellevue AND the Magician have like 100x better jukeboxes. As did like every bar I'd ever been to with a jukebox, including like diners where they have those stupid little jukeboxes at your table. Those things rule. I was so upset by that jukebox, I must've bitched about it for like 4 minutes before I forgot about it.

FYI the jukebox DOWNSTAIRS was way better, but being controlled by morons unfortunately.

What I did like about the jukebox upstairs was that they refused to put tracklistings next to the CDs. It was like a crap shoot! "Well I know this is the Misfits, but what song am I putting on? It is a mystery!" That was cool.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 16 March 2003 17:51 (twenty-three years ago)

the rolling stones
the modern lovers
the ramones
the misfits
james brown
sam cooke
johnny rivers
donna summer
dead boys
ronettes
replacements

works for me.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 16 March 2003 17:55 (twenty-three years ago)

but no killing joke!! siberia has dishonored the fire!!

geeta (geeta), Sunday, 16 March 2003 17:56 (twenty-three years ago)

you guys forgot the perma-morrissy on the carousel! Did you make it to a diner after? Which one?

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 16 March 2003 18:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Sweet fucking Christ I'm hungover.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 16 March 2003 18:18 (twenty-three years ago)

uhhhh the cheyenne diner. pretty horrible. but we got to watch the sun come up over the west thirties through the plate glass windows.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 16 March 2003 18:20 (twenty-three years ago)

we should have gone to big nick's -- uptown r00lz

hahaha dude so i was just reading this week's new yorker and KILLING JOKE is mentioned -- alex honors the fire yet again!!

geeta (geeta), Sunday, 16 March 2003 19:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Wow, that's a sweet roll call! I was glad to have seen those of you I did, I feel very lucky! Fuck that diner we went to first, Alex they dishonored US there, we left after half an hour because nobody served us. I wanted 5am grilled cheese, dammit! Ah well. You can't always etc.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 16 March 2003 19:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Remind me to keep my jukebox conversations in person from now on.

Geeta's right about Big Nick's, and I think we should hold the next FAP uptown. I also think we should keep FAPs midtown more often.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 16 March 2003 20:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry to hear your diner experiece was less that fulfilling. Ate there in the past and `twas good. Ah well.

I have a headache today that feels as if some shoved rusty metal rods in to the back of my cranium.

Thanks to everyone who showed up last night! Hope I didn't make too much of a jackass out of myself. Nice to finally meet you all.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 16 March 2003 21:08 (twenty-three years ago)

I patiently count the days until July, I do.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 16 March 2003 21:09 (twenty-three years ago)

It was super to see all my numba one stunnas and to meet Maura, Dave M. and Alex in NYC. Hope everyone is feeling ok.

Matos, did you like Bryon Stingily? Did you rave til the break-a-break-a-break of noon? How much money did you make inside Shelter?

felicity (felicity), Sunday, 16 March 2003 21:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I missed Byron, damn it. I had to get out of there at 7am, I was passing out. Three hours, though, not bad at all.

I woke up at 6pm, so obviously I was the nightlife, I was the boogie, I was the disco ray-OOOUUUUND, oooh yeah.

M Matos (M Matos), Sunday, 16 March 2003 23:48 (twenty-three years ago)

7 a.m.? Somebody's "losing his edge."

felicity (felicity), Sunday, 16 March 2003 23:55 (twenty-three years ago)

i agree! that doesn't sound like something Matos would do.

geeta (geeta), Monday, 17 March 2003 00:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Matos would've lasted longer if his ILx peers hadn't pressured him into drinking at the FAP

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 17 March 2003 02:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, we all brought our guns to the FAP and forced Mr. Matos to imbibe. Like usual.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 17 March 2003 02:51 (twenty-three years ago)

[looks up from dressing bullet wound]
wha?

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 17 March 2003 02:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Can I just say that the highlight of the night was Alex discovering grafitti he wrote three years ago, still on the wall at Siberia? Particularly since he actually signed the grafitti "Alex in NYC" and it involved an anarchy sign. It was so great and made me miss my sharpie.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 17 March 2003 03:20 (twenty-three years ago)

"throw the goats" IIRC!!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 17 March 2003 06:43 (twenty-three years ago)

FAPs until 6? Why oh why can't we do this in London? They're outfunning us, do you hear?!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 17 March 2003 09:07 (twenty-three years ago)

matt, you just have to give in to the russian bar.

Ed (dali), Monday, 17 March 2003 09:14 (twenty-three years ago)

poor gareth is at work in London now?

Ed (dali), Monday, 17 March 2003 09:15 (twenty-three years ago)

yo i just got into work like an hour ago, i'm like working, i hit the ground running, landed at 7am, no sleep, straight into work and actually doing some, i think i might have to go out for a beer tonite

gareth (gareth), Monday, 17 March 2003 10:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, I am a hablessly walking, talking, breathing cliché, it's true.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 17 March 2003 14:43 (twenty-three years ago)

You! I end every FAP by flashing everyone. I'm beyond cliche, I'm like at Betty Boop point by now.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 17 March 2003 14:46 (twenty-three years ago)

But with a non-watermelon sized head.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 17 March 2003 14:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't wake up until 3 PM yesterday.

hstencil, Monday, 17 March 2003 14:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Loser.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 17 March 2003 14:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Nice to see you too, Ally!

hstencil, Monday, 17 March 2003 14:51 (twenty-three years ago)

There would appear to be substantial evidence to back the claim that every single ILXer ends up lapsing into cliche by the end of every single FAP.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 17 March 2003 14:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Busted.

felicity (felicity), Monday, 17 March 2003 15:04 (twenty-three years ago)

i blame hstencil

geeta (geeta), Monday, 17 March 2003 15:05 (twenty-three years ago)

> yo i just got into work like an hour ago, i'm like working, i hit the ground running, landed at 7am, no sleep, straight into work and actually doing some, i think i might have to go out for a beer tonite

I am in awe of Gareth

H (Heruy), Monday, 17 March 2003 15:07 (twenty-three years ago)

haha you shouldnt be, i'm not drinking tonight, no way, it seemed a good idea this morning, i shall merely be sleeping tonite

gareth (gareth), Monday, 17 March 2003 15:09 (twenty-three years ago)

It's Amateur NightSt. Patrick's Day, so it's not fun to go out for a drink anyway.

hstencil, Monday, 17 March 2003 15:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh my god I hope you can all empathise with my hangover, I woke up just now and Frankie Bones was playing in my computer and noone was in my house and I'd slept in the wrong bed and I have ABSOLUTELY no fucking idea how on earth I got to bed or when. All I know is it's monday.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 17 March 2003 15:19 (twenty-three years ago)

How did Frankie Bones get in your computer? And will you let him out?

hstencil, Monday, 17 March 2003 15:27 (twenty-three years ago)

It's Wednesday, Ronan.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 17 March 2003 15:27 (twenty-three years ago)

I was very much the worse for wear yesterday. Just can't drink like I used'ta could. O rage. O despair.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 17 March 2003 15:34 (twenty-three years ago)

haha Matt I had to double check there. I really hope there's some cans left in the fridge cos otherwise I have drank some fucking insane amount of cheap patricks weekend carlsberg.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 17 March 2003 15:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I woulda been fine had I stuck to the same brand of beer all night. And drank about 5 less. I think I had something like 16 beers all told.

hstencil, Monday, 17 March 2003 15:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I think Im still drunk from last night. Being at work this is not a good thing. Its even worse considering I didnt drink THAT much.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 17 March 2003 15:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Tim and I independently verified our personal conviction that eating in the midst of drinking = dud, i.e. it slows you down, dulls the razor-sharp wit you've just spent $20 acquiring, and most importantly is a gap in the consistent flow of alcohol across the brane-pan.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 17 March 2003 15:50 (twenty-three years ago)

the worst is the actual trying to eat part, you know when you come home and are like completely pissed and trying to shovel food into you, and it's all compulsion rather than normal eating, I mean you might as well be wearing a loincloth and bashing people with a cudgel at that point.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 17 March 2003 15:51 (twenty-three years ago)

So I should just say that on Saturday I was lame and grumpy and tired and baseball-wearied. Still, it was nice to see you folks and Gareth, it was great to meet you.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 17 March 2003 15:55 (twenty-three years ago)

baseball-wearied? But the season hasn't started yet!

hstencil, Monday, 17 March 2003 15:56 (twenty-three years ago)

hahaha yeah Ronan it's not exactly My Dinner With Andre

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 17 March 2003 15:57 (twenty-three years ago)

I had my draft (aka DorkFest 2k3) all day on Saturday. All eight hours of it.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 17 March 2003 15:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Hopkin Stim had more than eight hours of draft beer on Saturday, and he was in a GRATE mood!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 17 March 2003 16:13 (twenty-three years ago)

That'd be him just warming up probably.

We worked out a few sundays ago that the key to a big booze-up is a dirty great curry beforehand. The beers just flew down after that.

chris (chris), Monday, 17 March 2003 16:27 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know what the fuck I did for the last 12 hours, it's looking ominous, my mate just texted "haha you said some funny shit last night!"

youwantbutanycocianebwoooooyamiparanoidYESYOURPARANOID.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 17 March 2003 16:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Yancey WAS totally lame the other night, who gets wearied out by pretend baseball? That's so weak and pathetic. I think Gareth should've kept his hat in retribution.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 17 March 2003 17:52 (twenty-three years ago)

This is where I was "WHAT-EVAH!" in an obnoxious voice.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 17 March 2003 17:54 (twenty-three years ago)

was = say

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 17 March 2003 17:54 (twenty-three years ago)

No, the other way was better because you WERE "WHAT-EVAH!" the other night! In fact, I make the universal "W" sign at you, and now I'm also holding an "L" sign to my head and yelling "LOSE-AH!"

Sadly, this actually occured at the FAP. Everyone outside of NY romanticises our exploits but in actuality we just sit there doing that, and taking risque photos to look cool.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 17 March 2003 18:30 (twenty-three years ago)

i assume people were making "L" signs when i accidentally ordered one o them baby Heinekens. i was all 'hmm three dollars that's not bad' and then they handed me a small green thimble full of beer. what-evah!!!%@#&*
(ps it was great meeting you all / seeing familiar faces!)
(pps is tobias here yet?)

Dave M. (rotten03), Monday, 17 March 2003 19:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Why do they put beer in little bottles? They'd sell more Heineken if they sold it in Colt .45 bottles.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 02:53 (twenty-three years ago)

YOU BUNCH OF FUCKING ELITIST BASTARDS, HOW COME MICHAEL BOURKE WAS'nT INVITED.(ok i flew home on the 14th hehe)

Michael B, Tuesday, 18 March 2003 03:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Everyone outside of NY romanticises our exploits

No actually it's just everyone inside of NY who does that; we have the best PR!

Nice to meet Dave and to see Tim H. and that other guy from London again . . .

So I'm not sure about Siberia, the time I went before I thought it was divey, this time I felt like I was on the set of Friends.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 04:07 (twenty-three years ago)

What other guy? Gareth wasn't there. There was only this midwestern trucker, evidenced by his brown t-shirt and Yancey's hat!

god I should've developed this roll of film today cos it ain't funny without the visual.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 04:57 (twenty-three years ago)

My exploration of the various shades and nuances of ruin continues on its sorry course (it's all a part of a huge potlatch of Sorry).

On the train into work this morning I was idly wondering (while reading The Baffler, funnily enough) what I would say about the FAP. The first thing to enter my head was "I learned how to pronounce pton_mwaah".

I'm still in NYC, but sadly only in spirit. I had a terrific time.

Sorry.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 10:55 (twenty-three years ago)

do not be; was great having you here.

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 10:57 (twenty-three years ago)

HA HA

Come back! You forgot your CD opener.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 13:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Classic Englishman abroad moment in NYC elevator:

Middle aged woman: first floor?

Me: uh, yes please, thanks.

MAW: Hey! You're English!

Me: Yes, sorry.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 13:23 (twenty-three years ago)

But did you want the first floor or the ground floor?

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 13:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I correctly understood her to be referring to the ground floor as the first floor.

By the way, FELICITY REDWELL IS A SQUIRREL TEASE.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 13:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Black or brown squirrels?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 15:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw a black squirrel chasing a grey squirrel on Sunday night.

hstencil, Tuesday, 18 March 2003 15:06 (twenty-three years ago)

So tell us more about Rick Wakeman!!

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 15:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Squrirrels, it's not you, it's me.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 00:35 (twenty-three years ago)

All of a sudden I realized that this thread makes sense only when you're drunk.

Chris Barrus (xibalba), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 08:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah yes OK I forgot here’s the “I’m sorry” top 5 contemporary art shows in Chelsea as sampled last Friday in a ridiculous trawl:

1. Conrad Atkinson at the White Box (525 W26th St): “Constantly Contesting”. Particularly for the ceramic landmines. It looked and felt like blank conceptualism but it’s *engaged*. Energised blank horror and disgust is a new one on me.

2. Douglas Gordon at Gagosian (555 W24th St): "Play Dead". More discomfort, both on my part and that of the elephant.

3. Al Souza at Charles Cowles Gallery (537 W24th St) the best of the Big! Pop! Fun! shows: I saw. Souza makes big bright abstracts from jigsaw puzzles. I liked the slightly skittery Christina Ray show in the back room too.

4. Mel Chin “Render” (Frederieke Taylor, 6th Floor, 525 West 22nd St): included because it was the only show I saw which was so stomach-churning I had to leave. (Bearing in mind it’s mostly wax, that’s quite an achievement, particularly towards the end of a 50-gallery trawl which could have been designed to induce jadedness). Much lovelier (Big! Pop! Fun!) thing by Beverley Semmes at Leslie Tonokow just along the corridor, even if it does involve a whole bunch of sticking plasters.

5. Jon Routson: “Bootleg (Chicago)” at Team, 527 W26th St. Feeling just a little grounded after the enormous ham and cheese omelette you’ve just scoffed at the Empire Diner? Then why not take a seat in a comfortable leather sofa and watch a film? It’s a bootleg camcorder film of a showing of “Chicago”. Restored my sense of disconnection, I can tell you.

There are tons of other things I could have included which I’m happy to bang on about if anyone’s interested but I’m working on the assumption that you won’t be. There is also a large amount of dreadful old tat, but I suppose that’s to be expected too.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 12:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd like you to bang on about this at considerably greater length, Tim.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 13:12 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw a black squirrel chasing a grey squirrel on Sunday night.

Proof by science that Toronto isnt the only city with an almost all black squirrel population.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:14 (twenty-three years ago)

BLACK squirrels?! WTF?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw a black squirrel the other day, and I usually only see them when I'm in northern Michigan or Canada!

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:22 (twenty-three years ago)

No doubt some of you - hi bnw! - will be familiar with Sarah Lawrence College: Where Even The Squirrels Wear Black.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Do you call it WET SWaB for short?

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:41 (twenty-three years ago)

No; there are also SKUNKS there. One of my friends - let's just say she now records in a group who take their name from a Russian dog in space - was tripping her face off one late spring Sunday morning (she had crashed out on top of a canopy erected for graduation) and climbed down only to find a small black and white animal she thought was a cat. So she went after it going 'here kitty, nice kitty' and then SQUIRT. Yes, you really do have to bathe in tomato juice to eradicate *mammal* skunk stink.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I just wanted to point this out:

http://bitchcakes.topcities.com/images/trucking.jpg

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks, Ally.

hstencil, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:50 (twenty-three years ago)

holy shit hstencil does look like Brian Wilson.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:50 (twenty-three years ago)

MY HAT WAS DEFILED!!!!!!!!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:53 (twenty-three years ago)

That's the greatest picture of all time, besides the one of Tracer having some sort of uterine contractions next to my leg.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:54 (twenty-three years ago)

I seem to recall pointing out repeatedly that hstencil's thatch was more Carl than Brian on the night. Sorry hstencil. But, y'know, you are to blame.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Tim, I have like no pictures of you, were you hiding? THe only picture of you, you are covering your face.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:57 (twenty-three years ago)

(psst the rest of the pics are on the "Ally's new job: Leader of Serbia" thread but beware, the Brian Wilson/Trucker pic is nice and shining up on that one too)

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I might have a picture of Tim on some film I haven't developed yet. But since I want to live, I won't post it.

rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 20:28 (twenty-three years ago)

You should email it to me, and I'll post it, because he knows that if he comes after me, he better come strapped, cos I'm completely insane.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 20:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I have to finish the roll of film! It also has pics of the Happy Hooker on it, too. At least, it should.

rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 20:33 (twenty-three years ago)

i just read this thread from top to bottom in one go and now i want to live in nyc

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 21:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Er, sorry.

Photographs of me = bad ideearr.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 21:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Do you want to take this outside, Tim?

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 21:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry this thread got so sidetracked with our elitist in-jokes but Tim is referring to when I illustrated the squirrel-calling here.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 23:46 (twenty-three years ago)
