i may have to photo some greyhound racing for work - and other people have expressed interest in going to the dogs too, what better place than sunny Walthamstow? the only question (other than 'will there be pie?') is when? A couple of weeks from now perhaps?

The pub from last night's programme was the Tavern on the Hill (formerly the Higham Hill Tavern) and is highly recommended.

On Thursdays they have a French menu with emphasis on cuisine from Alsace. The landlord is very knowledgeable about new world wine, particularly Chilean merlot from the high Andes bodegas.

I think you can do it individually, you get given tokens which you then exchange for booze/food/bets etc. if it works the same way as a similar scheme at Wimbledon dogs.

It's probably the best way, as they'll want you to pay when you book, which turns into a nightmare when you are booking for a group.

oh god, nowhere near the dogs. I was in the Bell the other night, when I forgot to take my keys with me and had over an hour to kill, and it was fine. It's a bit pub, and between walthamstow central and the dogs, and also handy for blackhorse rd too, as it's on the 123 bus route, but I don't know what it's like on a saturday night.

The best pub would be the village, but it's a bit too much of a detour, and probably will be busy.

What time were people thinking of going to the pub/turning up at the dogs?

we usually bet a quid or two on races, with a fiver on the last race maybe if yr feeling lucky. You can bet as little as 50p if you want (at the tote that is, Bookies usually have a fiver lower limit)

about 8 quid to get in, then it's just beer money. And don't forget your copy of the racing post.

great day - i only picked the winner once but others did better - getting on the same bus as Pete en route to the FT Focus Group then seeing Richard Blackwood from atop in Tottenham, talking into a very 'Bobby Brown - My prerogative' style headset as he walked along the street - was an early highlight, as was seeing someone who looked exactly like me (prior to haircut) except he had narrower eyes at the dog track later, weird

Good fun evening, after a day of looking at art in town: CULTURE SHOCKAH. I only won once, only 80p at that. Damn, I was sure a dog called Lethal Tracy would mow down the opposition...

Rob twisted his ankle at Walthamstow Bus Station, then we drank vodka at Pete's and slagged off pop videos. And then it was very cold on the final leg of the journey home.
