Is it snowing anywhere?

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Nope! grrrrr

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

It was snowing in Edinburgh 10 minutes ago (when I was last outside)

caitlin (caitlin), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

boo!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Still waiting. They promised us six inches by nightfall.

(Hrmmmmmmm...)

the river fleet, Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

'obvious joke'

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, it's snowing heavily in S.W. Michigan. We had 6" last night and expecting another 10" by the end of today. My computer faces a window, and right now I've got a mug full of Scottish Blend tea, watching quarter-sized snowflakes tumble to the ground.

It's a good day to go skiing!

Psychokitty, Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Not here

ModJ (ModJ), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

It would help if you were to say where you are.

(Slough / No)

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Not in Oxford. But it never snows here, even when the rest of the country is covered with the stuff...

Been watching pretty cloud formations though

jellybean (jellybean), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

It's getting heavy in Edinburgh, could be described as mini blizzard what with the wind.

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

:-( You lot get all the good stuff!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Flurries in NYC at the moment... we're supposed to get 6-12 inches tonight.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Lucky, lucky, lucky! (where's stevem with the obv joke when you need him!)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

it's snowing in sheffield!

quite heavily as well

JOY!

Slump Man (Slump Man), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 22:43 (twenty-two years ago)

It was snowing in Greenock earlier. Have just looked out the window but it appears to have not made it along as far as Renfrew.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 22:45 (twenty-two years ago)

the last time i had good snow i made a snowpig!

http://www.btinternet.com/~michaelkelly8/snowpig.jpg

oink!

Slump Man (Slump Man), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

We've been promised snow but it ain't happening. My mum nearly refused to drive to WalMart to buy Monkeys on account of the snow. And it didn't snow. HAH! I don't think I believe in this snow any more.

the river fleet, Tuesday, 27 January 2004 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

walmart stocks monkeys?

Slump Man (Slump Man), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

next to the liquor

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 23:06 (twenty-two years ago)

how unhygienic

Slump Man (Slump Man), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 23:09 (twenty-two years ago)

It's snowing in Chicago! Looks like this:

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 23:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Slump Man (Slump Man), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

And my desk looks like this:

http://giganticmag.com/images/cognac.jpg

I heart winter!

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

this is weird! the biggest snowflakes i have ever seen are falling right now in the east village. they're about the size of a half-dollar coin! they're making noise when they hit! totally awesome.
if this keeps up then i don't have to go to work tomorrow. who wants to go for hot chocolate?

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 23:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Noise? You sure that's snow? Maybe it's manna.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 23:40 (twenty-two years ago)

nyc schools are closed tomorrow! i don't have to go to work! forget the hot chocolate... who wants to go for whiskey??

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 00:26 (twenty-two years ago)

when are we going to pearson's for onion rings??

jody (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 01:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Ormskirk: no. It never snows in Ormskirk. Brown slush seems to force it's way up through the earth.

Matt (Matt), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 01:45 (twenty-two years ago)

hmm... saturday?

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 01:46 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe. we'll see what the weather's like. drinking downtown is always a possibility though.

jody (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 01:51 (twenty-two years ago)

lots of snow here in central PA, but probably not enough to cancel work tomorrow. damnit.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 01:52 (twenty-two years ago)

It's snowing like crazy in Toronno.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 03:31 (twenty-two years ago)

YES!!! YES!!! IT IS FINALLY SNOWING IN VERMONT!!! I didn't believe them, but it is happening, hooray!

Sorry, by monkeys, I mean Milton-Bradley Barrel Of Monkeys. They keep them right over by the gun counter at Walmart, yeah.

the river fleet, Wednesday, 28 January 2004 04:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sure I still have to walk the dog tomorrow, despite the snow.

hstencil, Wednesday, 28 January 2004 04:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Its been snowing for the past two days here.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 04:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I have now tired of watching it snow, I'm going to bed.

the river fleet, Wednesday, 28 January 2004 04:49 (twenty-two years ago)

It's stopped snowing here now.

In fact, it stopped *hours* ago.

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 04:50 (twenty-two years ago)

It is spitting snow here. We are expecting a foot or so. I live in Jackson Wyoming so a foot of snow here is a very good thing. I work as a busser in an Italian Resturant in the winter so I can eat free and ski all day. I am very poor and very happy.

Speedy Gonzalas (Speedy Gonzalas), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 08:03 (twenty-two years ago)

apparently the met line is shut north of Harrow, as is the Piccadilly line and the Chiltern line due to the snow, but Walthamstow is completely clear apart from some on the cars. I certainly picked a good day for an "off site meeting"

chris (chris), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 08:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Woo hoo, we've got snow! Still at work though, boo!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:06 (twenty-two years ago)

It's Wednesday now and still no snow in Glasgow and it's not even particularly cold. WHERE'S MY COLD SNAP??

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Woo tiny amount of snow in North London last night, apparently more scheduled for this evening - hopefully after I'm snug at home watching Location Location Location. Still, I do want enough to have a snowball fite.

It was spitting a few snowflakes when we came out of the pub last night after TRIUMPHANTLY WINNING £50 worth of booze at the quizFAP. Tomorrow the world will be ours!

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Hooray! Congrats lady!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:26 (twenty-two years ago)

(My team got the second place 20 squid prize - I am basking in reflected glory)

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Well done you winners you! What I really want to know though, is what were Anna's sweets like?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Horrifying. See QuizFAP thread.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:45 (twenty-two years ago)

It's started snowing again in edinburgh.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay! More snow please Mr Snowcontroller

Pinkpdoesnotwanttostayatwork (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Big snow in Edinburgh. Well, big for Edinburgh. Crap by any other standards, cept maybe The Bahamas.

grrrr x-post.

hmmm, Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:47 (twenty-two years ago)

It is cold but entirely sunny in Soho. This is not good enough. I did wake up at 5.30am and there were a tiny number of snowflakes in the air, but really it barely counted. Black ice was a pain this morning, and that was just to walk on. Beautiful, fern-shaped ice crystals everywhere though.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:55 (twenty-two years ago)

It's very sunny here on the Edgware Road. No snow, not even any ice on the ground. Boo.

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, those ice crystals rule. They're all covered up here now.

xpost

hmmm, Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:00 (twenty-two years ago)

IT'S SNOWING IN OXFORD!!! YAY-YO!!!

Enrique (Enrique), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:09 (twenty-two years ago)

ERM, IT'S KIND OF STOPPED SNOWING IN OXFORD!!! BOOOO!!!!

Enrique (Enrique), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Boo!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:11 (twenty-two years ago)

http://perso.wanadoo.fr/kwik-e-simpsons/wallpapers/nelson-preview.gif

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Look having snow is the only thing we got buddy!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Have some of ours, we gots loads.

hmmm, Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:23 (twenty-two years ago)

While you're at it, have some of our temperatures for the rest of the week. I'll take anyone else's gladly. (Not valid in Canada.)

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Slough / No snow.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Any snough?

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeh, Oxford snow sucks. We had about 5 mintes of snow. Boo!

I went outaside to watch the pretty precipitation, and by the time I'd got me coat it'd stopped. Grr!

Johnney B (Johnney B), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:37 (twenty-two years ago)

It hasn't snowed here since December 2000! I remember it well. Passion FM said it'd snow 'after midday' and I trust them with my life.

Enrique (Enrique), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:38 (twenty-two years ago)

it snowed here last a year ago tomorrow!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Glasgow: snowing at long bloody last.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:47 (twenty-two years ago)

It' stopped here but it's all pretty. It will be all brown by the time I make it outside I suspect.

hmmm, Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

has just flurrying in all of a second here in Old Street

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 11:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Snow in EC1, the nation will grind to a halt.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 11:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd forgotten how much I love the feel of the air on my face in this kind of snow.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 11:14 (twenty-two years ago)

http://webpages.acs.ttu.edu/abond/img/penis.jpg

snowisfun, Wednesday, 28 January 2004 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

there was about 5mm* of snow on the ground in Oxford at about 1am..

*I don't really know, but it was staying on the ground... I guess it just melted while I was asleep :(

jellybean (jellybean), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 11:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Snow is over, blue skies back, nation steps back from the brink.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 11:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Boo. :-(

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 11:25 (twenty-two years ago)

the best snow i've ever experienced was up in Scarborough just over three years ago - mostly at night but you just don't get that kind of coverage down Sarf (please note i haven't really been anywhere that exotic in wintry terms)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Soho just saw a decent flurry, but it seems to have stopped now.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Monsieur, wiz zis snow you are really teazin us!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 12:14 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, i think you should be able to see snow pictures if you go here:
http://tinyurl.com/2y8xp

if it will only show you one picture, select 'snow jan 2004' from the list of all the albums.

and don't look at the folder called 'naked pictures' please. thank you.

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

(those pics were from 1-3 am last night in the west end of london)

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 12:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Hardcore!

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Nice pics Colette!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

there weren't any snow on the ground on my way to work this morning but i noticed some cars on the road and quite a bit of snow covered on them (they must have been parked in a shadow or something)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Slough: It's ruddy SUNNY here!

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

The sun has disappeared here, so fingers crossed!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

My mum and I have started arguing about whether it's still snowing or not, and whether I have to shovel the driveway. (Hang on, weather report says that snowshovel arguments have been replaced by the inclement possibility of arguments about "You're not REALLY meeting a bunch of random lunatics from the internet, are you? You'll be KILLED AND DUMPED IN A BODY BAG IN QUEENS!!!" Sigh.)

the river fleet, Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

B-b-but you do it in London all of the time!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Its too far away from Queens, there.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

It's only that we can't afford the frieght charges to queens that we haven't dumped your body there ;-)

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

x-post etc.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh wait, I posted my response on the wrong thread, grrr, argghh, etc.

My mum has decided it hasn't stopped snowing yet so I don't have to shovel.

the river fleet, Wednesday, 28 January 2004 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Why I No Longer Live In Minnesota, part 496:

Shoveling. Although when you get a drift and lob a small black poodle into it purely to watch it dogpaddle its way out - very satisfying.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

my mom said they got like a foot overnight and my dad had to get the tractor out to plow the driveway, otherwise they would be stranded.

not snowing in london yet.

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

it's started snowing again! woo!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

TRACTOR?!?

Our sadistic school board owned a bunch of 4x4s for collecting the faculty when there were severe storms. Result was no snow days AT ALL in our district even following two-footers.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Snow is only good if it's fresh.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

yep, my dad has a tractor. he loves it. it looks pretty much like this:

http://www.meyersturf.com/images/Equipment/Ford_9N.jpg

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

(snow not shown...)

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

well, that isn't his actual tractor. and it doesn't have the snow plow attached. i just wanted to help suzy with a picture, she seemed interested-ish.

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 16:34 (twenty-two years ago)

no snow here now, just rain & thunder and lightning (in january!)

jellybean (jellybean), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Ugh. Some boy came over and started shovelling so I felt duty bound to help. Oh, my aching back. That's the first six inches taken care of, and it's still going.

The River Kate (kate), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

It's thundering and raining like a mother in Oxford. What a terrible day -- politically, meteorolgically, spelling-wise...

Enrique (Enrique), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm told Oxford has much snow and thunder and lightning as i type...the bastards.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn straight -- it's JUST THIS MINUTE turned to snow. Near home-time. Bah.

Enrique (Enrique), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

According to the BBC Weather forecast, if you haven't got any yet, you aint getting any.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

kate, who is this boy and why is he shoveling your driveway?

and if he's just some neighbor kid, surely you can rationalise that if he's such a dogooder that he shovels for neighbors, then you helping him is actually cheating him out of doing good, thus making him unhappy.

so you shouldn't help.

still not snowing here.

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, my mum says he was an entrepeneurial young soul who is trying to raise money to go visit his mother in Florida. I guess my mum gave him some cash. he offered to split it with me, but my mum told him not to. Dammit, I could have had some cash there!

The River Kate (kate), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

did she at least make you hot chocolate in payment for your hard work?

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

You just know yr mum paid over the odds cause the lad picked the right cause there...

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

YAY! ACTUAL SNOW WHAT STAYS PUT HAS LANDED IN OXFORD! I WANT A DAY OFF NOW.

Enrique (Enrique), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

it's thundering, lightening and raining here in the stow too

chris (chris), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

The big snow patroller last night was JANICE LONG! - she was voicing people's reports from all over the country.

the snowfox, Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think any gritters were out last night or today.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

it's taken 'em all by surprise.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

oh! update!

it just started doing some sort of rain/snow/sleet thing suddenly and very heavily and it's nearly sideways.

just as i was going to set off home...

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

where are you?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

it's less rain and more snow now. wooooo!

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

There is already another inch piled up on our beautifully freshly scraped driveway. Sigh.

The River Kate (kate), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

now i want to go out and do something fun and exciting in the snow tonight, rather than sit and watch tv and read. anyone up for snow-fueled entertainment?

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

It's snowing outside my office!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

anyone up for snow-fueled entertainment?

always, colette, always...

Bateman (Enrique), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I'm going to go for a walk in the snow. I won't take the dog, but I just want to run around in it for a bit.

The River Kate (kate), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

it's starting to accumulate! people are making snow prints on the pavement!

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

The car outside my window is covered now.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:21 (twenty-two years ago)

O yes! I can see it too!

the snowfox, Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:21 (twenty-two years ago)

But not (quite) Islington.

the bellefox, Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Col, mail Ed your number...address is correct here.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I can confirm that Bethnal Green is whiter than it's been in a long time. Looks beautiful actually. SnowFAP then? How about The Approach in Beth...oh forget it.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:27 (twenty-two years ago)

the sky here is a really weird shade of pink though despite it snowing like hell.

chris (chris), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, i emailed ed my mobile. i hope we do something, i'm really hyper right now about the snow!

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

WOW. I'm on the South Bank here in London and we've got ourselves a four-alarm snowfall goin' on. Now I can no longer mock my friends back home in Toronto about their snow... I love this! Although I've never seen lightning with snow before, and I've seen A LOT of snowfalls, let me tell ya...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

My excitement about snow in London just waned when I realised that the transit system will now be completely fucked.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

rob, come play in the snow with us. it'll make all your transport worries disappear.

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd love to - BELIEVE ME. I'm all about the snow angels, but I'm meeting my lady to see Lost in Translation...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, i'm venturing outside. ed's in charge of planning the snow party...

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Snow has stopped, booooo!

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:48 (twenty-two years ago)

yep, 8 degrees by weekend :(

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

um, is this going to go away very quickly or am i going frozen new york to frozen london next week?

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Wooo, I just went for a nice walk in the snow. It is beautiful on a scale I can't even describe.

The River Kate (kate), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

London weather usually changes on a weekly basis at this time of year, it'll probably be wet and windy next week. And it never really gets colder than 2 or 3 celsius due to our maritime climate, being an island and all that.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

weekly, how about every 30 minutes or so.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Taking this job in Luton perhaps wasn't such a great idea. Only one road out of town and, yes, it's gridlocked. Back at work now feeling utterly pissed off.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Please feel free to offer words of comfort.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I have snow. Hah.

Stupid (Stupid), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Snow is slush.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

gosh! just made it home and exhausted like a buggerer who's just buggered. the traffic was so bad that it was quicker actually riding the bike than if i had driven/taken a bus (although it's infinitely more wet!!!!)

the snow is pretty much all gone though apart from on grass areas there are some black slush on the side of the road (that is also melting into huge RIVERS running down the side of the road like some small simulation of arctic ice caps melting).

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I just been looking out of the window at the forecourt bit of the estate I live on. Snow just coating everything, no footprints or nothing, and the sky's this weird shade, looks just like ginger beer with clouds... it's the prettiest I've ever seen it. Wish I had a camera...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 19:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Finally hit Portsmouth around 6:20 as I was walking home. Big old flashes of lighting followed by full-on bliXXard action. I was turned into a snowman in a few seconds.

robster (robster), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I have not properly seen it yet.

I wonder if tomorrow morning will offer a beautiful picture of a world in white?

the snowfox, Wednesday, 28 January 2004 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

i heard there may be more snow tonight

took me a long time to get home - took the bus i abandoned even longer - i walked from near Newington Green to just short of Turnpike Lane, it was kinda nice

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 20:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I was wondering why all the English were so quiet this afternoon. It still hasn't stopped here. I think I'll shovel the driveway one more time before it gets dark.

The River Kate (kate), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

There were two Aussie girls in my office who hadn't been over here long and they were thrilled. They said they'd never seen snow before and ran outside to take photos of each other whilst shouting things like: "It makes everything so beautiful!" "The footprints look just like they do in films!"

I love snow and it was really nice seeing people take such delight in it.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I remember our dog seeing it for the first time. I am envious of the rest of the country. Glasgow had about 30 mins of it and then it stopped for good and just went a bit chilly.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I just shovelled the driveway AGAIN. Sheesh. It had nearly covered up the bottom by the time I got to the top! But it is worth it, because shovelling six inches of snow at a time is easier than two feet of snow all at once!

And now my mum is making pancakes and feeding me maple syrup, so bwah hah hah, watch out!

The River Kate (kate), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Nick - how so? Glasgow is the most soul-chillingly freezing place I have ever been to in the British Isles.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

You want to try Aberdeen (I haven't)

Maybe I'm just used to it now, but it's just not been that cold here over this 'cold snap'. I'm sure there were colder days in December. You did visit on a foul, foul weekend. Though I remember it being more wet than cold.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 29 January 2004 00:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i wish it would snow properly here.

the blizzard looked foreboding when i woke up this morning but then it stopped pff just like that.

now there's hardly any snow left on the ground in hyndland.

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 29 January 2004 00:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Pinefox did you see the heath this morning? I got up early this morning just to go and see it - looked amazing. Then I fell on my arse on the icy pavement.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 29 January 2004 09:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I was wearing baseball low-tops yesterday, which were soaked through and filled with ice-water within a minute of stepping out into the blizzard on Holloway Road. I still chortled in childish glee at the huuuuge snowflakes covering up the skank on the pavements. They turned into brown nasty slush quite rapidly, though. It's a bit like life, isn't it?

Nearly had the life squeezed out of me on the tube this morning due to people (like me) taking the train instead of the screwed buses.

However, Bedford Square looked like fairyland when I walked past it.
I took pictures of my back garden this morning - it's joins into a kind of communal wilderness with the gardens of other houses in the block, and it was dead pretty and sparkly.

Written in snow at the back of the British Museum: "FUCK PWC". Dude, what's so bad about accountants? Oh, wait...

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 29 January 2004 09:48 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, that was snow (not slush) last night. Out with the kids for a bit, snowballs, you know the drill...

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 29 January 2004 09:57 (twenty-two years ago)

They love it!

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 29 January 2004 12:04 (twenty-two years ago)

walking to work was pretty treacherous. all the kids were out playing last night in the slush and then in froze, leaving all but the last part a frozen, churning sea. reminded me of stockholm.

i'm glad that it really snowed, but i'll also be glad when the ice on the pavements melts.

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 29 January 2004 12:09 (twenty-two years ago)

three weeks pass...
More snow!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 10:26 (twenty-two years ago)

winterland, Tuesday, 24 February 2004 10:29 (twenty-two years ago)

it was snowing just now as i walked to work, and now it's snowing even harder. woo!

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 10:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Bah. Where is my snow? You people are in London too, what have you done with the Bloomsbury allowance?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 10:33 (twenty-two years ago)

It's sleet here in good old EC1 Liz.

Vicky (Vicky), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 10:39 (twenty-two years ago)

no snow in Oxford yet. It always takes its time to get here.

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh well, guess I'll make a sleet-man to try and get into the spirit of the thing

winterland, Tuesday, 24 February 2004 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

winterland, Tuesday, 24 February 2004 10:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm glad it always take longer to get to Oxford. I don't want to spend another 2 days falling over in the ice again...

jellybean (jellybean), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 10:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Snow? What the hell is snow?!

yes it's raining as per usual here in the north west of england.

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 10:47 (twenty-two years ago)

It NEVER SNOWS in Ormskirk. Fact.

Matt (Matt), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 12:53 (twenty-two years ago)

We've got some hail/snow/wind combination in Edinburgh that's quite mental.

hmmm, Tuesday, 24 February 2004 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Masses of hail in Edinburgh and very cold - i had my heating on full last night and was still chilly, don't know if this means snow's on its way.

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

it means your heating is broken

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 13:18 (twenty-two years ago)

It never snows in Dawlish either.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I bet it isn't snowing in glasgow.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

BBC forcasts snow for friday...

just in time for me to move! great.

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)

My heating is working fine, it was just very cold. The hail has now turned to proper snow.

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

For once, no snow in Chicago, and all the old snow has pretty much melted off.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

It NEVER SNOWS in Ormskirk. Fact.

But it did... New Year's Eve I took this picture.

http://www.coastaltown.nildram.co.uk/images/newyearsevesnow300.jpg

Admittedly that was as much as we got, and it had all gone half an hour later, but it did snow.

celeste (Celeste), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 00:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I was stuck in work at the time, and don't beleive you.

Matt (Matt), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Glasgow East End reports a minute of snow around 1230 hours.

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

snow update required...when I entered the Channel Tunnel at about 4.30 yesterday it was bright sunshine and the sky was relatively free of cloud. When I emerged on the other side the sky was steely grey and there was a veritable blizzard. Brussels got a coating last night; most of it has turned to slush now.

MarkH in Belgium (MarkH), Friday, 27 February 2004 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Cambridge has none! :-(

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 27 February 2004 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

It tried ever so hard last night to snow here, bless it, we had about 1mm of snow on the ground at one point!

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 27 February 2004 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw or maybe felt some snowflakes today.

the snowfox, Friday, 27 February 2004 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I met a Foxgloves fan last night.

MarkH in Belgium (MarkH), Friday, 27 February 2004 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

wow, it's really really snowing right now, and it's sticking! it's so lovely...

colette (a2lette), Sunday, 29 February 2004 20:43 (twenty-two years ago)

First we take Brussels, then we take the world.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Sunday, 29 February 2004 20:50 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh, snowball fight in the corridor. whee!

colette (a2lette), Sunday, 29 February 2004 20:53 (twenty-two years ago)

it's snowing heavily here right now. it's march.. it's supposed to be spring.. it's not supposed to snow!

I went into a venue at 8.30, and it was still quite mild, and clear.. i came out at 2am and the entire place is covered with a layer of white stuff... strange

jellybean (jellybean), Friday, 12 March 2004 02:41 (twenty-two years ago)

This morning, Alice woke us to say "IT SNOWING!!! LOOK AMBER!!!"

(Alice wakes up like a light switch, Amber wakes up like a slow sunrise)

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 12 March 2004 10:18 (twenty-two years ago)

There was lovely snow falling last night when I was getting home from Peckham. It was quite difficult to go to sleep because I couldn't stop watching it swirling outside the window.

Rounding wind's corner
snow delineates volume
fortuitously.

It was pretty much gone by morning :(

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 12 March 2004 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Janice Long was again announcing snow last night.

the bluefox, Friday, 12 March 2004 13:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Edinburgh. Quite heavy for us. Too wet for it to lie. Looks nice. Glad I brought me brolly.

hmmm (hmmm), Friday, 19 March 2004 10:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't stop looking at the window to check if it's still snowing, i'm a big baby at heart.

leigh (leigh), Friday, 19 March 2004 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

None here, just bluddy rain & wind!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 19 March 2004 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Rain and wind here now too. :(

hmmm (hmmm), Friday, 19 March 2004 11:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Now it's braw sunshine. The joy of Edinburgh!

hmmm (hmmm), Friday, 19 March 2004 16:26 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
If this chart comes off it'll be the biggest snow event in years. It is two weeks away so it'll probably not come to pass.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Sunday, 29 January 2006 20:10 (twenty years ago)

Holy shit that looks awesome. Can't wait! Except for dead pensioners and homeless people of course, that's never good.

It snowed in Hillsborough, Co Down this morning according to my girlfriend who was passing through on the bus. As I'm sure you're delighted to know.

Snow Tomorrow?

Mark G, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 14:19 (seventeen years ago)

Very icy last night.

chap, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 14:26 (seventeen years ago)

I would quite like it to stop being so fucking cold. It's not usually this cold in December - London now feels colder than New York a year ago.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 14:29 (seventeen years ago)

one month passes...

Is it *not* snowing anywhere?

Mark G, Monday, 2 February 2009 07:53 (seventeen years ago)

It wasn't in Exeter 90 minutes ago. At all.

Sickamous Mouthall (Scik Mouthy), Monday, 2 February 2009 10:22 (seventeen years ago)

Home of the Met Office.

Shallow Gravy (Billy Dods), Monday, 2 February 2009 10:30 (seventeen years ago)

So does this not qualify as a white christmas?

(apart from the obvious reason)

Mark G, Monday, 2 February 2009 10:30 (seventeen years ago)

Looks like it's just starting in Cardiff. Man, I'd LOVE to go home early!

nate woolls, Monday, 2 February 2009 10:41 (seventeen years ago)

It wasn't in Exeter 90 minutes ago. At all.

Oh good I was afraid you'd taken 300 awesome photos already.

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Monday, 2 February 2009 12:11 (seventeen years ago)

I have my snow boots in the car and both my lenses with me just in case, but I'm not hopeful.

Sickamous Mouthall (Scik Mouthy), Monday, 2 February 2009 12:12 (seventeen years ago)

It has started snowing like it means it here now.

Sickamous Mouthall (Scik Mouthy), Monday, 2 February 2009 14:40 (seventeen years ago)

£10 that the Daily Mail runs a story about how a harmless impromptu snowball fight somehow degenerated into the stabbings of 18 children, a community warden and a house cat
