This is the thread where everyone argues over which five tunes to bring to Charlie's house party.

I'm not publishing the address on here cos I'm not that much of a fule, but suffice to say it's a short skip from here (do some sleuthing!):

http://www.artnet.com/Magazine/reviews/robinson/Images/robinson5-12-20.jpg

Mail offlist for actual address if you'd like to come along.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

wow, this sounds fun!

(yes, i've said that on the other thread, but i figured it wasn't too hard to say it again)

i do not want the address. i'd prefer to wander around north london with that picture printed out, asking people if they know where it is, kind of like a scavenger hunt.

actually, considering that i'll be drinking from noon, this might actually happen...

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

The rules, such as they are:

1. bring FIVE songs on the format of your choice (we will have two CD players, two decks, one or possibly two minidisc players and even a cassette machine I think).

2. Pick up your raffle ticket

3. drink and talk rubbish to random strangers, til you hear either
a. your raffle ticket number being shouted out, or
b. one of your choices being played.

4. If you hear b. it means you've somehow missed hearing a.

5. dance to your songs, sing along, smile self-indulgently at your terribly clever choices etc.

6. dance some more, talk some more rubbish to some more random strangers, drink some more etc

*Caveat for post-tennis people - if you arrive smelling like you've been huffing around a court in the sun all afternoon, you will be thrown in the canal. Shower, dammit!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

(hint to Colette: not North London!)

oh, and by the way, we've asked everyone to bring five songs, but it's very likely you'll only get to play three - that's just insurance just in case hardly anyone actually bothers to bring anything at all...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Beffnal Green, innit?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Mmmm The Approach, yum.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

right. so i'll just follow the other tennis players...

by the way, if there is a gap between tennis and the party and anyone doesn't want to go all the way home in the meantime, people are welcome to come back to my place for a while. it's not too far from highbury fields and if anyone needs a shower to prevent charlie throwing you in the canal, that's cool as well.

(especially to south london people, but anyone is invited, esp. as my flatmate is away all weekend and i feel like i should have people over! woo!)

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

If we're going to do this, its probably a VERY good idea indeed to have something planned to break up the day as if we just sit in the park drinking all day its going to be suicidal.

Incidentally, the Approach is a grebt pub - definitely worth popping in for a pint first.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

somthing planned like come to my house and look at my fish, or something else?

i'm dumb today. sorry.

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Looking at fish is a definite possibility.

My first song is Where Are You Baby? by Betty Boo. I'm wondering who will step over the line first and cause Charlie to rescind the invite in fear.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

"Next up... The Boiler"

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

My first song is Where Are You Baby? by Betty Boo.

Sounds fine to me - I was considering playing "(Hey DJ) I Can't Dance to That Music You're Playing" but I'll retire gracefully this once.

I'm wondering who will step over the line first and cause Charlie to rescind the invite in fear.

Y'know, I'm not scared at all! The most scared people seem to be that section of my friends who think I'm an insufferable snob, and not the reckless come-one-come-all inclusionist I really am. People keep saying, "but I'll just play cheese" and I'm like, "Great! Bring what you want to hear" and they're all, "but you'll hate it" and I'm like, "unless it's Dido or Celine, that's extremely unlikey - I like pretty much everything" and they're all, "Hmmm, that sounds like a challenge..."

Oh.

Dear.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I hope I'll be up to tennis and coming to the party too. There seems to be a N253 bus that will be of use to me getting home late.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm probably coming to the tennis, so maybe to this too. but i've got a late night out on friday so i'm not too sure.

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 16:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm skipping another trip to Wiltshire to see the White Horse for this party, so it better be good, Chuck!

Super-Kate (kate), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 08:01 (twenty-two years ago)

so it better be good, Chuck!

Such is the nature of the beast, young Kate, that it'll be as good as you make it - the music makes the party innit!

Otherwise it's just a house full of (admittedly probably very nice) people looking for a point.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 08:28 (twenty-two years ago)

(Actually, I'm really staying home so I can work on recording while HSA is out of the house and not around to tell me that the vocals are too loud. Heh. I will try to make it to the party if I can peel myself away from the laptop.)

Super-Kate (kate), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 08:30 (twenty-two years ago)

(Oh, and do you know anyone who fancies producing a pop albums?)

Super-Kate (kate), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 08:31 (twenty-two years ago)

actually, does anyone think they'll come to my house after tennis/before the party? if so, i really should clean my room in the next couple of days...

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I probably won't come to your house. But then again, I'm likely to be preoccupied with cleaning slugs off wine glasses, removing hermit crabs from teapots, harvesting mushrooms from my hair and gingerly stepping over dead badgers*.

*nb. This might all be nonsense. Black Books has annexed my head once again...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh this sounds a cracking idea! Damn the train fare, house moving & exam study, damn it all!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you some sort of badger murdering bastard, Charlie No4?

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Colette - whether I come over or not kind of depends on the weather - if its rainy and minging I probably won't be anywhere near the tennis and will probably go straight to the pub or wherever we're meeting. If its gorgeous and sunny I will be sitting in the park with the rest of you and probably swinging by yours in between as its a long way home and back.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

wow this sounds fun - tennis party then colette party then charlie party!

hey colette before going to charlie's i think that chinese restaurant that was shut the last time has to be visited again!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

This is going to be an incredibly weird juxtaposition of worlds.

Super-Kate (kate), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

i might bring that super furries record...

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow, this is going to be one helluva Saturday for us ILXers...

Time to start scheming about my five songs. You should be warned - one of my songs at the peoplesrepublicofdisco was WE BUILT THIS CITY ON ROCK AND ROLL...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

too bad i can't come and annoy everyone with my 'choices', fun have now

stevem in the windy apple (blueski), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

1. John Cage - 4.33
2. Fox-mating (live from the back of my garden) over sporadic bongos and occasional sax burst
3. Baywatch Title Theme ('some people stand in the darkness...' etc.)
4. me saying 'THIS PARTY SUCKS!' over and over again for 4 minutes
5. Braxe & Falke - Rubicon (el mannion return of the electrofunknetic bastard 2004 non-existent re-rub)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

1. Basic Thug0nom1cs - j0hn c3na

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

2. Fox-mating (live from the back of my garden) over sporadic bongos and occasional sax burst

that'll be the Ted Milton remix, then

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I will be in desperate need of cheering up and distraction this weekend, so I hope to get myself out for the tennis, and I would love to visit Colette's home, then go on to the party. Or I might just curl up into a ball and stay at home alone all weekend. I know which is the healthier option for me, but I may not be up to it.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

hello, i'm back from my day without internet.

which means this stuff is all happening tomorrow...

so, are we meeting at the pub in the picture at a certain time, before wandering over to the party?

anyone? anyone?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 30 April 2004 08:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Hiya. Whatsitsface the Alwyne Castle? Apparently no telly so no Arse yobs.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 30 April 2004 09:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't look at me, I haven't a fucking clue what's going on...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 30 April 2004 09:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Co-ordinating with the FAGOT thread could be useful here.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 30 April 2004 10:14 (twenty-two years ago)

true liz. maybe we can set a time to make it from the alwyne to the approach so that people not coming to the tennis/pub will meet us in this mythical non-north-london place before we take over charlie's house and scare his housemates...

am i making more sense to other people than i am to myself today?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 30 April 2004 10:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I am at work until 4 tomorrow, but would like to come to stuff after this. Please advise. I promise to change out of my work uniform.

alix (alix), Friday, 30 April 2004 11:22 (twenty-two years ago)

ok chaps - anyone who'd like to come tomorrow, mail me offlist and i'll send you directions...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 30 April 2004 11:44 (twenty-two years ago)

what time are things starting, charlie?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 30 April 2004 11:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Charlie, I'm coming to this, and since I don't know you properly I will be bringin AN PRESENT to buy your friendship. Are you excited yet?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 30 April 2004 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

You don't need a present to buy Chuck's friendship! Just BOOZE!

::ducks::

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 30 April 2004 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

For what it's worth, I can generally be bought with fags, booze, beautiful people with happy, vaguely vampiric smiles & twinkling eyes, amazing music, or any combination of the above. If in doubt, bring them all!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 30 April 2004 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

No takers? Bah.

btw Matt DC, you need directions an' ting? Is that a real address up there?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 30 April 2004 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Yep, the address is real, Charlie.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 30 April 2004 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

are people getting dinner somewhere in between? (do they do food at the approach?)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 30 April 2004 16:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, good point - food will be essential at some stage before the party.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 30 April 2004 18:37 (twenty-two years ago)

do they let people have barbeques at highbury fields??? if the weather's good i think barbeque is urgent + key (this is also for future reference FABBQ????)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 30 April 2004 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

this sounds great, and I haven't fapped for ages, but I'm going to see Franz Ferdinand in Oxford...have fun, y'all.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 30 April 2004 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

but you can see franz ferdinand like, anytime. they seem to be always playing gigs.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 30 April 2004 19:25 (twenty-two years ago)

not that faps don't happen with a similar frequency

ken c (ken c), Friday, 30 April 2004 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

and i *know* the frequency

ken c (ken c), Friday, 30 April 2004 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

you can BBQ in highbury fields, but i think it might be a little late to organise now, plus weather looks blah at best... but next time for sure! i'm all over any BBQ action.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 30 April 2004 19:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I've got tickets, ken and I've been looking forward to it 4 ages. NB this doesn't mean yr wrong!

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 30 April 2004 19:33 (twenty-two years ago)

What's the frequency, Kenneth?

Hey people, I have my five songs burned, and I am ready to rock.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 1 May 2004 10:30 (twenty-two years ago)

wahey! three of my tunes got played right at the start!! cor nightboat to cairo! but boo they totally skipped my john c3na track!!! cheers for the party charlie.

i am very ashamed to admit that i went home early, and thank god martin was on the bus with me so i didn't fall asleep on the way to stamford hill - except i fell asleep straight after that and somehow woke up at Finsbury Park, but going the OPPOSITE direction! wtf! i must have done a round trip. some girls on the bus took the piss.

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 2 May 2004 08:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, Ken! But mainly, thanks for the party, Charlie - it was something I really needed this weekend. And thanks to the other fine people who were there.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 2 May 2004 09:18 (twenty-two years ago)

oh it's alright falling asleep on the buses has become a bit of an institution for me, i should really bring a pillow with me next time i go to parties.

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 2 May 2004 10:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Olé!!!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 2 May 2004 10:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Cor, that was a top day and no mistaking... Charlie certainly knows how to throw a rocking party, plumbing-related difficulties notwithstanding, and The Approach over the road is like The Swimmer relocated to East London - larvely stuff.

And also ILX SQUARE DANCE!!!!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 2 May 2004 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Groo. My hangover. ILX SQUARE DANCE INDEED!!! It was like Seven Brides For Seven ILXors. Except we didn't have enough girls. Especially with me doing the calling.

Groo, my head. Lovely to see everyone. And apologies to everyone I called a Beaker Person.

(And finally, fun to see Rob be not the only Canadian in the room, thanks to my IRL friends...)

Super-Kate (kate), Sunday, 2 May 2004 11:31 (twenty-two years ago)

also, omg charlie has like 273989 friends

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 2 May 2004 12:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Half as many as me, then? *hides*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 2 May 2004 12:08 (twenty-two years ago)

(Those weren't all Charlie's friends, BTW. Charlie does have a lot of friends, but many of those people actually belonged to his housemates.)

Super-Kate (kate), Sunday, 2 May 2004 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Seriously, the Square Dance may have be the most surreally random impromptu thing ever to happen at an ILX event.* There was one point in there when it was all working in beautiful synchronicity.

*although I never witnessed the legendary Gut War as described by Lixi last night.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 2 May 2004 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

if only someone took a picture - ooh wait i vaguely remember some pictures were taken! no idea whose camera it was though?

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 2 May 2004 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

i took pictures. but not of square dancing, sadly. there are loads of 'ilx funny face' pics, though, and one where matt and i look like psychic twins.

there should be more square dancing in the world. do-si-do, indeed.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 3 May 2004 10:14 (twenty-two years ago)

The Approach over the road is like The Swimmer relocated to East London

isn't the swimmer in fact the approach relocated to north london, ie they are owned by the same people and the approach was first?

sounds like a lovely time, i was eating GIANT PORK CHOP at st john with my lovely wife, what with it being our actual anniversary and all.

also, oh no, GUT FITE, oh no!! chris is the champion 4 eva i reckon :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 3 May 2004 10:37 (twenty-two years ago)

what pray is a GUT FITE?

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 3 May 2004 11:52 (twenty-two years ago)

i missed out on the square dancing AND the gut fite! although i was quite drunk, so perhaps i'm blocking it out of my feeble brain.

my fave bit was unexpectedly running into a friend there who knew charlie - the whole small world thing...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 3 May 2004 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

There was no gut fight at the party, far as I know - it was a conversation about one at another event.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 3 May 2004 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Man, all the fun stuff evidently happened after Robster & I wussed out and went home. But thanks to Rob for hospitality earlier in the afternoon at his Dido-adjacent Highbury palace, and to Charlie for the portion of the party that we utilised. That fridge was so full of beer.

For future reference, I do not recommend combining bitter, Pimms and cava with duck pate and then sitting on the top deck of a bus for 1/2 an hour. Hence the going home early.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 08:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, yeah, if drunken memory serves, I've never SEEN a fridge so full of beer.

Ha ha, now I remember Lixi and I planning to do a linguistic study of the interweb! (This may be the academic version of my usual drunken "let's start a band!" type plans...)

Super-Kate (kate), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 08:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, sorry about above-mentioned wussing out. A good day was definitely had but much beer and a lengthy bus ride does not make for a happy robster.

robster (robster), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 08:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't understand the North London fascination with buses. You people have a Tube! Use it!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 08:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Not at 2 in the morning, we don't! All hail the N8!

Super-Kate (kate), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 08:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, thanks for coming along, chaps and ladies various. I have it on good authority that I enjoyed the evening at various points, but there seems to be a gap between, uh, something like 2am and 8am. Oops. Hope I didn't do anything inappropriate - or at least, if I did, I hope it was with someone who didn't think so!

Amazingly, all damage to the house was merely cosmetic (apart from the plumbing crisis, the merest mention of which elicits storm-cloud faces from the poor flatmates who somehow fixed it in my (family-insisted) absence yesterday.

Thankyou for all the lovely tunes you brought! And apologies to those of you who didn't get to hear your chosen songs due to (I think) general laziness on the part of my fellow DJs - I played the first hour-aand-a-half but I feared if I'd stayed on any longer I wouldn't haave actually been able to talk to anyone at all - that said, I only have a dim recollection of talking to people at all anyway :-(.

If anybody would like their CD returned, let me know and I shall endeavour to do so. I will also, at some point, post all the choices I can find on here, so people who missed the extravaganza can feel extra-silly for having done so.

So lemme see. Police doing handbrake turns outside my door at 5am having received a report of a stabbing (I shit you not)? Check. Irate neighbour in his pants turning up at the door and threatening "you're a big lad, and I bet there are a few more like you in there, but I'll have you all"? Check. Sounds pretty par for the course to me.

Can't believe I missed the square-dancing...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 08:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Amazingly, all damage to the house was merely cosmetic (apart from the plumbing crisis, the merest mention of which elicits storm-cloud faces from the poor flatmates who somehow fixed it in my (family-insisted) absence yesterday.

Did someone introduce your flat to the wonders of the Upper Deck?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 09:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Perhaps mercifully, I have no idea what that means.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 09:14 (twenty-two years ago)

the upper deck

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 09:15 (twenty-two years ago)

more on the upper deck

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 09:16 (twenty-two years ago)

you are sick people. and no, that didn't happen - the "action" was purely on the lower deck, as it were, and approximately the size of a labrador puppy.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 09:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha I missed the square dancing too, upon relocating to the ILx chambers, the atmosphere had changed, a subtle alteration of the ether, perhaps, but to be honest I had had rather a few BOUZES by then. Thank you for a smashing party Charlie lad!

Sarah not logged in, Tuesday, 4 May 2004 11:19 (twenty-two years ago)

If only I had got Poshadam to have SQUARED DANCED then my life would be complete.

Super-Kate (kate), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 11:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd forgotten about the linguistic study. What exactly were we planning to study? Neology?

alix (alix), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I... Can't... Remember...!

I don't even remember the technical term for voiced versus dropped 'R's which you so kindly told me, either.

Curse drunkenness!

Super-Kate (kate), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 11:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Poshadam isn't posh at all, he's made it all up to confuse foreigners and other gullible types. When I met him (15 years ago), he sounded not unlike Jarvis Cocker...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 11:39 (twenty-two years ago)

was it the post vocalic r?

alix (alix), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 11:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha ha, to Charlie. Emma was right, I am posher than him, so HAH!

Yes, to Lixi. That would be it. (Get it mixed up with the Glottal Stop, Ba'al and Cockerney Bottle and all...)

Super-Kate (kate), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

its also called rhoticity. Rhotic dialects are ones that have it.

alix (alix), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 11:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Who was PoshAdam? I have a bit of a memory blackout for the last bit of the party.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 12:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I hope I have the right person, and have not confused him with some OTHER Nathan Barley type I got into a row with at The Foundry or Mother or some other Hoxton bar...

He arrived quite late, looking dishevelled in a foppish haircut and a floral Liberty Print shirt. I think he stumbled into our square dancing session and demanded to know where Chuck was.

Is this a case of mistaken identity? I thought he was called Hugh, but the only Hugh there was down in the kitchen (he was in Australia at the time of the Hoxtonposhrowing, so it couldn't have been him.)

Super-Kate (kate), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 12:05 (twenty-two years ago)

He arrived quite late, looking dishevelled in a foppish haircut and a floral Liberty Print shirt.

That would indeed be Adam. We went to school together.

There was I believe only one Hugh at my party, and that was my mate Huey, who has never been to Australia. And in any case, he'd never argue with anyone (except possibly me).

Thinking about it, Huey's an ILX lurker - you there dude? Absolve yourself immediately!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, and Colette, from the Sky Ear thread:

too bad you don't live in michigan or somewhere else where there's a bottle/can deposit, charlie. surely you'd make enough money to be able to come out tonight with the remains of your fridge...

When I finally saw the inside of fridge at 3 o'clock on Sunday afternoon, it contained the following:-

various dodgy-looking foodstuffs we'd foolishly not cleared out before the party
1 can Special Brew
1 bottle Bacardi Breezer (which has been there since before Christmas)
that's it

However, on the counter next to the fridge are about 50 empty wine/cava/spirits/beer bottles. We have recycling round here, but they don't pay us for anything - this is Tower "poorest borough in the UK apart from Hackney" Hamlets after all.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, charlie i think the only 'inappropriate' thing i saw/heard was you telling me to fuck off several times in a row.

but i'm sure you meant it in a nice way :)

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm pretty sure i had a daft grin on my squished-up face at the time. either that or you were trying to persuade me that something I knew to be wrong, was in fact a good idea. not a bloody clue what that thing might've been, however.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

The most inappropriate thing was you telling me that I was not welcome in the kitchen or anywhere in the house and that I should go home! Humph! Fuck you, yer three invitations and the Public School you rode in on!

Super-Kate (kate), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

it was actually when i mentioned how crazy it is that you know SO MANY PEOPLE. which you apparently took to mean i was taking the piss.

although you weren't as rude as the guy in the blue shirt. humph.

kate, did you hear me say goodbye? once the porch/stairs got as crowded as the kitchen i kind of ran away just shouting goodbye as i went down the stairs...

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha ha, was the guy in the blue shirt the one who smelled like vomit? Hah!

I don't actually know if you said goodbye to me or not, Colette. I kept trying to leave, and then someone would say "hey, I'm leaving too, wait for me" and then disappear. And I'd be stuck for another age. But this was alright due to the pricelessness of the Poshadam actually being nice to me hell freezes over moment!

Super-Kate (kate), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 12:52 (twenty-two years ago)

he didn't smell like vomit, he laughed when his friend said that *i* smelled like vomit. bastard.

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 12:53 (twenty-two years ago)

(actually, if the way the conversation was remembered is that he smells like vomit, perhaps i should just smile and nod)

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I just want an excuse to keep typing "Poshadam" as it sounds like a town in the Netherlands, or Upstate New York. Not coz I fancy him or anything.

Super-Kate (kate), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 12:55 (twenty-two years ago)

it was actually when i mentioned how crazy it is that you know SO MANY PEOPLE. which you apparently took to mean i was taking the piss.

Aha! You touched a nerve, is all (even though in reality, I tell people to fuck off with such frequency it's become a totally devalued and meaningless phrase). I probably took umbrage because a. I only recognised about half the people within eyeshot at any one time, and b. even though it may seem on the surface that I know loads of people, I hardly actually *know* anybody - I've just *met* a lot of people, which is a very different thing.

Either way, please don't take offence, as none was intedned.

Kate, on the other hand: naturally, I meant every word. No, really. Not really, obviously - you are hardcore cos you got there very bloody early and stayed the distance, and organised squaredancing (allegedly) and made me happy insodoing. To thanks!

Xpost I take it all back - I probably told you to leave to extricate you from Adam's clutches...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 12:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Poshadam's clutches? I extricated myself from them halfway through "I Just Can't Get Enough". Humph!

Super-Kate (kate), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

uh huh. like you would fancy crazy posh guys?! never!

(xpost. that was to kate, not to charlie. i have no idea if charlie fancies crazy posh guys or not)

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 12:58 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, pictures are up. i think you should be able to see them if you go here: http://tinyurl.com/3cdts. they are in a folder called, creatively, 'april 2004' with pictures from sunday's bbq.

if anyone wants to host these pictures so we can directly link to them, let me know and i'll send them to you.

(as usual, feel free to be snoopy and look at the other photos. just not the 'murder victim burial sites' folder, please)

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

can someone tell me if this works for anyone but me?

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

It works for me, and I am sick with wishing I had been there. Who's the guy between Liz and Kate in the first picture?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

it works here too

must . avoid . having . pictures . taken . whilst . drunk

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

woohoo! managed to avoid getting my photo taken at all! colette, how do you manage to...oh never mind.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

oh fuck that was supposed to be in small writing sorry

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Also: the long haired guy in the second picture & the gent with blond top/dark sideburns. I don't really know anyone except colette in the picnic photos: should I?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Further fuel to the theory that if Ken Chu and Phil ever meet, the world will explode.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Long haired guy's called David as I recall, friend of Starry's (and my friend Isabelle's flatmate, but that was a crazy coincidence). Blonde/dark chap is Jesse, a splendid Canadian also occasionally of this parish.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

i think you were DJing when i took the pics, charlie. what smartass second half of that question did you leave off there?

IMG649 was supposed to be matt and martin square dancing. sadly, all i got was martin's back. i think they were getting ready to 'swing your partner round and round'

actually, i only have pictures of martin's back! how did that happen?

(xpost-- most people won't recognize anyone else from the picnic pics unless you recognize people from dean parties. but several were at ATP, so should maybe ring a bell?)

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

jesse walked into the kitchen saying 'god, i'm glad the pictures are done. nobody EVER takes a good one of me!' so i just snapped when he was unawares. i think it turned out pretty good.

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

what smartass second half of that question did you leave off there?

Nothing smartass about it - seventh picture across...you figure it out.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Ken & Phil have done DDR together, the whores. Neither exploded.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I recognize certain folk, but not all...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh and of course the debonair green-shirted beardy boy is my very own Robster, AF.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

the fish face? this was simply because kate was upset that in the 'ilx funnyface picture' most people weren't trying, so i said i'd have a go.

my favorite is the one of me and matt, with our matching tshirts and ken giving us devil's horns. awwww.

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha, Colette and I look like we're joined at the waist in that pic.

I remember the bleached hair guy, he was a party random. His choice of tunes included You Can Go Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac.

Also, a dancing picture of me where I don't look like an utter twat! Yay! Was that upstairs or down?

Starry's bloke and I spent a good proportion of the night attempting to touch each other on the neck while staring into each other's eyes and going "Olé!" Aaah, sweet bouze.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, in addition to all the CD-Rs people brought, I just found a paper CD case containing the following Actual Pre-Recorded CDs:

G'n'R - Appetite For Destruction
Paul Simon - Graceland
The Cure - Staring At The Sea
Hole - Live Through This
The Sultans Of Ping FC - Casual Sex In The Cineplex

Honest answers only, please - can anybody claim these as their own?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

matt, the one where you're standing next to starry was taken upstairs just after you'd done a square dancing demonstration with/to martin.

(xpost-- no, but if nobody claims it, can i have the GnR?)

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Bah, of course. Sorry, Robster.

It is possible that Charlie was asking how you took a photo of yourself.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

the fish face? this was simply because kate was upset that in the 'ilx funnyface picture' most people weren't trying, so i said i'd have a go.

You have odd fish where you come from! And no, that's not exactly what I meant, but it'll do for the time being.

I am loathe to separate the 5 CDs as I'm pretty sure they belong together in somebody's addled mind. I am however ripping a copy of the Sultans album as I type, since I only ever had a cassette copy!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Either Colette has a natural aversion to letting my face into her photos or I avoid cameras when I see them aimed my way. It would usually be the latter, but I don't think the occasion arose on Saturday at all, so it must be the former, which is entirely understandable.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Nice photos. I remember the Fleetwood Mac, and also Ken and I singing along to Runaway by Del Shannon, which I brought along... At one point I lost all of you ILXors for a while when you migrated upstairs. I bet I didn't sit still for more than a minute - I tend to do that when I'm drunk. It's probably a defence mechanism to avoid embarassing myself, which I'm prone to do when babbling on and on...

I do recall talking to lots of nice people, but nothing is crystal clear. Poor, feeble brain...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

martin, i think it was more that i only took pictures for about 3 minutes of the entire party, and you were having a conversation during that time.

is there a better way to do the fish face?

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

is there a better way to do the fish face?

Probably not. That wasn't necessarily my point. Fuck this shit, I'm outta here.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Fuck this shit, I'm outta here.

sorry, this made no sense in context. just meant i'm logging off. apologies for unnecessary use of vernacular.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Sigh. The one and only time I ever make it into FAP photos, and I'm MAKING FEARSOME ZOMBIE FACES. Great. Ach well.

Super-Kate (kate), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 08:28 (twenty-two years ago)

kate, i'm sure i have other pictures of you at FAPs. if not, there's always the pics from the clothes swap...

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 10:31 (twenty-two years ago)

were those clothes-swap pics ever published? (hint)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

No.

Super-Kate (kate), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

NO. i actually don't know where they are, either. what month was that?

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Please don't remember where you put them, Colette!

Super-Kate (kate), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

(although while looking for them, i found one of kate and ed at mark c's birthday. and i know there was one of kate from my homeless fap)

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I looked quite smart at Mark C's birthday. At least, I was wearing a good suit. So I probably don't mind that being posted. Though I'm sure it's not me that Stevem wants to perve over photos of.

Super-Kate (kate), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

should i just put it on my dotphoto thing, or send it to you?

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Can you put it on your dotphoto thing, and send me the link, please? Don't mean to be fussy, but I have to pay for internet access at home, so I want to cheekily download it at work! :-)

Super-Kate (kate), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, it's there, with all the rest of the party pictures (see link above). i don't know why ed is chewing on his arm in it...

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Cheers!

Chewing off his own arm to get away from us, perhaps? ;-)

Super-Kate (kate), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Argh! The photo album won't let me download! It's wants me to PAY for mine own photo!

Super-Kate (kate), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)
